The necessity of this study was to improve academic achievement and math attitudes through leveled reciprocal peer learning, and the specific purpose was as follows. First, each unit seeks to select learning methods and contents for each level of class for reciprocal peer learning, second, develop activity sites for each level through curriculum analysis, and third, improve academic achievement and math attitudes through classes that apply reciprocal peer learning activities. The study was conducted on 60 second graders of 00 High School in 00 Metropolitan City. Two classes were selected for the midterm exam results for the first semester of the second grade. Class 1 was divided into the experimental group and the other class 1 was divided into the comparative group, and 13 classes were conducted for about 2 months from May 1 to July 4, 2020. The experimental group (30 students) was a class that applied leveled reciprocal peer learning activities, and the comparative group (30 students) was a class that was taught based on traditional textbooks. As a result of this study, first, in this study, it was possible to improve academic achievement and math attitudes by setting learning contents for each unit and applying reciprocal peer learning activities for each level. Second, the experimental group taught by applying leveled reciprocal peer learning activities was effective in academic achievement and math attitudes compared to the comparative group taught based on traditional textbooks to students in the upper, middle, and lower groups. Third, in the class applying leveled reciprocal peer learning activities, low-level students who were neglected in math classes were also interested in the class and actively participated in it, showing improvement.
The purpose of this study is to development of a teaching-learning model for active learning in engineering education. For this, the adequacy between educational objectives and active learning activities is verified and furthermore an "active learning teaching-learning model" is suggested. This suggested teaching-learning model is expected to supplement weakness of traditional lecture-type teaching-learning activity. Based on the literature review, first, the representative activities of active learning were derived. there are twenty active learning activities, which compose of five of individual learning activity, five of pair-learning activity and five of group-learning activity, and five of alternative- learning activity. In addition, a survey on adequacy between designed active learning activities and learning outcomes were conducted to ten educational experts. Lawshe's content validity calculation method was applied to analyze the validity of this study. Second, five teaching-learning principles, such as thinking, interaction, expression, reflection, and evaluation were derived to develop an "active learning teaching-learning model" which supplements lecture-type classes and then the "TIERA teaching-learning model" which consists of five stages was designed. Finally, based on the survey on educational experts, adequate active learning activities were proposed to apply in each stage of the "TIERA teaching-learning model" and as a result the TIERA model's active learning activities were developed. The result of this study shows that some activities of active learning are appropriate to induce high cognitive learning skills from the learners even in traditional lecture-type classrooms and therefore this study suggests meaningful direction to new paradigm of teaching-learning for engineering education. This study also suggests that instructors of engineering education can turn their traditional teaching-learning activities into dynamic learning activities by utilizing "active learning teaching-learning model".

This study aims to investigate the effects of reflection activities on using Facebook in university lectures. To accomplish the purpose of this study, an experiment was conducted with 181 students who took a large-scale university lecture. Subjects were assigned into two groups: 90 facebook group(experimental group) and 91 cybercampus group(control group). They participated reflection activities on facebook or cybercampus during 4 weeks. Independent samples t-test with in-depth interview were employed to analyze data. The results of this study are summarized as follows: there was a statistically significant difference in learning satisfaction between facebook group and control group. Learning satisfaction of facebook group is significantly higher than that of control group because reflection activities on facebook provided to gather information on reflection and to interact with peers easily. In conclusion, these findings imply that reflection activities on facebook is effective for improving learning satisfaction of large-scale university lectures.
The phonemic awareness program included construction of 45 activities emphasizing various sounds in speech and letter names using a storybook. The subjects were thirty 1st and 2nd grade low-income(15 experimental and 15 control group) children attending an after-school program in Seoul. Pre- and post-tests assessed children's reading, self-concept, and learning motivation. The experimental group children had rich opportunity to deal with and discuss sounds, syllables, phonemes, and the Korean alphabet names during storybook reading, games, and play over a 12 week period, while the control group children were provided with worksheets, subject tutoring, and homework guidance. Results showed that the phonemic activities were an effective and useful way to enhance children's reading ability, self-concept, and learning motivation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of small group cooperative communicative activities on the strategies for estimating measurement. To do this, two research questions were set as follow: First, are there any differences between strategies employed by students in the experimental group and the control group before and after the estimating measurement activities? Second, are there any differences between strategies employed by students in different ability levels(upper, middle, lower) of pre-estimating measurement test in the experimental group? The research results were drawn from the investigation as below: First, the strategical change of before and after the estimating measurement tasks in the experimental group was quite noticeable. Unlike the small strategical change in the control group, small group cooperative communicative learning resulted in a decrease of simple memorization and guessing strategies and an increase of refined strategies such as the standard strategy, clustering, unit load and so on. Second, mathematical communicative activities in a small group cooperative learning showed that the students in the upper level of pre-estimating measurement test used more refined strategies and the students in the lower level used simple memorization and guessing strategy more frequently. And through interaction in small group, students could have chances to recognize error of strategies and to modify and learn strategies. In conclusion, small group cooperative activities allowed students to have chances to communicate mathematically and it is a efficient way of helping students learn estimating measurement strategies.
This paper describes an attempt to integrate flip teaching into a language classroom by adopting wikispaces as an online learning platform. The purpose of this study is to examine student perceptions of the effectiveness of using video lectures and wikispaces to foster active participation and collaborative learning. Flipped learning was implemented in an English writing class over one semester. Participants were 27 low intermediate level Korean university students. Data collection methods included background questionnaires at the beginning of the semester, learning experience questionnaires at the end of the semester, and semi-structured interviews with 6 focal participants. Because of the significance of video lectures in flip teaching, oCam was used for making weekly online lectures as a way of pre-class activities. Every week, online lectures were posted on the school LMS system (moodle). Every week, participants met in a computer room to perform in-class activities. Both in-class activities and post-class activities were managed by wikispaces. The results indicate that the flipped classroom facilitated student learning in the writing class. More than 53% of the respondents felt that it was useful to develop writing skills in a flipped classroom. Particularly, students felt that the video lectures prior to the class helped them improve their grammar skills. However, with respect to their satisfaction with collaborative works, about 44% of the participants responded positively. Similarly, 44% of the participants felt that in-class group work helped them interact with the other group members. Considering these results, this paper concludes with pedagogical suggestions and implications for further research.
This study aims to examine the effects of self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) on academic performance and the perceived usefulness for each elements of flipped learning. Based on their SDLR scores, 69 students were assigned to a high SDLR group and a low SDLR group. Academic performance was measured by the completion rate of a pre-class online learning and the final exam score, and perceived usefulness for each element of flipped learning was measured by a survey designed by the researcher. For academic performance, the high SDLR group showed a significantly higher completion rate than the low SDLR group, but no significant difference was observed in their final exam scores. Students in the high SDLR group perceived in-class student-centered activities as more useful than those in the low SDLR group. Additional qualitative analyses indicated that students needed more support from instructors and well-prepared peers. Finally, this study suggested that more examination on the various learning characteristics that may influence the effectiveness of flipped learning should be done.
The study aimed to examine the longitudinal relationship between addictive use of mobile phones and learning activities for elementary school students and to analyze (1)temporal changes of the addictive use of mobile phones and learning activities, (2)temporal relationship between them, and (3)multiple and complex group analysis across gender on the relationship. For the study, 3-year longitudinal data(2010-2012) of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey and autoregressive cross-lagged modeling were used. The findings showed that the addictive use of mobile phones and learning activities had a significant positive effect on the future selves of children over time. The addictive use of mobile phones influenced positively subsequent learning activities, but, the learning activities did not affect the addictive use of mobile phones. Further, there were no significant gender differences in the longitudinal relationship. The study provided the useful data to make guidelines on how to protect mobile phone addiction for elementary school students.
To conduct research using small group learning with advanced technology in school, small group collaborative learning was conducted in virtual reality called Second Life for high school history class to verify the effects of the role of group members (leader, group member) in collaborative learning activities in this study. Two classes of the second grade of high school were selected randomly and 20 groups were also randomly assigned, and each group was consisted of three members (1 leader and two group members). Academic achievement and satisfaction with academic activities were used to verify the effect of the role as measurement tools, and collected quantitative data were tested by independent sample t. As a result, it was found that performing the role of leader in collaborative learning activities in virtual reality was effective in promoting enhancing students' academic achievement and increasing satisfaction level. Lastly, utilization and improvement of small group collaborative learning using virtual reality in the field of education were discussed.
Today most of Korean students have no interest in mathematics and lack of confidence in it due to the burden of the college entrance examination, which often results in a failure or a dropout in mathematics in school. Therefore there is a need to diagnose the true causes and to find out a solution. As one of these solutions this study has developed and applied a learning model based upon cooperative group activities for the improvement of mathematical power to classroom. For developing this learning model a variety of research methods are used; questionnaires, observation, and analysis of the interview materials. After the application of this learning model, a lot of positive results in mathematics class have been observed.
