The purpose of this study was to develop design principles of both animated pedagogical agents as 'credible' persuasive message source and persuasive fear arousing instructional messages in order to help enhance attitude changes toward a certain issue. Based on the previous pedagogical agent research, this study drew the design principles providing ways to manipulate agent credibility level and fear arousing level of message. Consequently, it specified how to make pedagogical agents perceived less or more credible by learners by manipulating a variety of agent features. For fear arousing message, this study showed how fear arousing messages would be structured into one of three levels: non-threatening, moderately threatening, and strongly threatening. Two different agent conditions and three message conditions were actually developed and experimentally tested with the participants of 40 undergraduate students. The results showed that the agent design principles specified from the previous research worked well enough to make a distinction between the more credible agent and the less credible agent. The overall results of this study may indicate that the design strategies for fear arousing message are retained on the premise of some future refinements.
Recently, there have been numerous issues about password breaches and it is becoming important for the users to manage their passwords. In practice, the online service provider are asking the online users to change their passwords periodically. However, majority of the users are not changing their passwords regularly, and this can increase the risk of password breach. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether 'fear appeals' and 'message framing' enhance the behavior of changing passwords by the online users. Furthermore, we identify the mechanism on how the behavior of changing passwords is enabled using protection motivation theory. The results of an online experiment show that the online users who are exposed to 'fear appeals' perceived a more vulnerability and severity of password breaches, which in turn, increased the intention of changing their password. In addition, we found that perceived severity of password breaches affect fear positively. Moreover, we found that fear has significant impact on the willingness of changing passwords. Finally, Message framing plays a moderating role between fear and change intentions. That is, in a situation where 'fear appeal' is presented, it means that 'gain framing' is more effective than 'loss framing' These findings suggest that the online service providers may need to use 'fear appeals' to the online users. Security managers can address issues related to the password breaches by carefully designing 'fear appeals'.

Secure routing services in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are essential, especially in mission critical fields such as the military and in medical applications. Additionally, they play a vital role in the current and future Internet of Things (IoT) services. Lightness and efficiency of a routing protocol are not the only requirements that guarantee success; security assurance also needs to be enforced. This paper proposes a Secure-Fuzzy Energy Aware Routing Protocol (S-FEAR) for WSNs. S-FEAR applies a security model to an existing energy efficient FEAR protocol. As part of this research, the S-FEAR protocol has been analyzed in terms of the communication and processing costs associated with building and applying this model, regardless of the security techniques used. Moreover, the Qualnet network simulator was used to implement both FEAR and S-FEAR after carefully selecting the following security techniques to achieve both authentication and data integrity: the Cipher Block Chaining-Message Authentication Code (CBC-MAC) and the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA). The performance of both protocols was assessed in terms of complexity and energy consumption. The results reveal that achieving authentication and data integrity successfully excluded all attackers from the network topology regardless of the percentage of attackers. Consequently, the constructed topology is secure and thus, safe data transmission over the network is ensured. Simulation results show that using CBC-MAC for example, costs 0.00064% of network energy while ECDSA costs about 0.0091%. On the other hand, attacks cost the network about 4.7 times the cost of applying these techniques.

The small number of fusion research that addresses fear-appeal and self-efficacy in the effectiveness of warning labels cause the label is not clear, then the purpose of the study is the first to examine the effect of the combination of the message. With the experimental method, a total of 240 participants were smokers consist of Indonesian university students in the age range 18-23 years. Data obtained then processed with ANOVA statistical methods and Test T. The results are consistent with previous studies that the visual warning labels more effective than the textual warning labels alone. Results also suggest that a warning label should be both visual and textual messages combined with self-efficacy. Limitations, this study does not differentiate among smokers and non-smokers, in addition to the images are used only one type of disease, so that the research needs to be done to distinguish these factors.

Related to the situation on the Korean Peninsula, by North Korea's threat of war the tension escalates and serious crisis continues. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the subjective perception which the residents of South Korea feel about North Korea's threat of war through a Q methodological analysis framework. In the result of the study, for the North Korea's threat of war the South Korean's recognition type is analyzed into four type such as 'non-reactive', 'fearreactive', 'psychological anxiety' and 'cynical ignorance type'. First, the No. 1 type 'non-reactive' does not empathize with North Korea's threat of war itself, and second type 'fear-reactive' have uneasy feeling like that 'What would happen as things go' and feel a sense of crisis about the North Korea's threat of war. The third type 'psychological anxiety' is type which feels that due to North Korea's threat of war inter-Korean relations is in the crisis. Finally the fourth type 'cynical ignorance' think that North Korea's threat of war is bluffing and also North Korea is like a shepherd boy. The reason to apply Q-methodology in this study is to make it possible to a more in-depth approach to subjective perception and threat of psychological meaning for the threatening message of study participants.
Smart home services are growing rapidly as the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) opens the era of the so-called "Connected Living." Although personal information leaks through smart home cameras are increasing, however, users-while concerned-tend to take passive measures to protect their personal information. This study theoretically explained and verified how to design effective software update notification messages for smart home cameras to ensure that users comply with the recommended security behavior (i.e., update installation). In a survey experiment participated in by 120 actual users, the effectiveness of both emotional appeals (i.e., security breach warning images for fear appeals) and rational appeals (i.e., loss-framed messages emphasizing the negative consequences of not installing the updates) were confirmed. The results of this study provide theoretical interpretations and practical guidelines on the message design features that are effective for threat appraisals (i.e., severity, vulnerability) of smart home camera users and their protection motivation.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of sympathetic reactions to public service advertisement video messages produced for health campaigns. To this end, based on the empathy response scale proposed by Campbell & Babrow (2004), the empathy response to the images of nine health campaigns with themes of smoking cessation, tuberculosis, and suicide triggered fear of health risks and health behaviors (information seeking, preventive actions). As a result of the analysis, among the factors of empathy reaction, the reality of the message creative, the match of emotions, and the identification of the characters in the video each played a role in raising fear, and it is rather fear that logically understanding the situation that causes health problems through the health campaign video It was found that it played a role in reducing health information seeking behavior. On the other hand, it was found that the higher the degree of interest, such as sympathy for the characters in the video, among the factors of the sympathetic response to the health campaign, the higher the intention of preventive action to reduce the health risk.
The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship between fear and anger emotions in the discourse produced by the media during the period of major emerging infectious diseases (SARS, Swine Flu, MERS, and COVID-19) that occurred since 2000 in Korea. The researcher collected editorial articles of the major daily newspaper after a significant epidemic of new infectious diseases and analyzed them using the Extended Parallel Processing Model (EPPM) and text mining techniques. In all epidemic times, fear appears stronger than anger, but the smaller the fear, the greater the risk control message is produced. In detail, fear emerges strongly in the discourse of the risk of infectious diseases or the economic crisis. Anger appears strong when the government's quarantine failures, groups where group infections occurred, and concealing information about infectious diseases. In this process, anger is strongly expressed against the factors that threaten the safety of society. Anger is also an emotion that can justify strong quarantine, but it can be the basis for discourse on minority hate. In this respect, anger is a two-sided emotion, so it must be handled carefully in the media.
Fear of contact exists due to the prevention of the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19. When using the common entrance door of an apartment, access is possible only if the resident enters a password or obtains the resident's permission. There is the inconvenience of having to manually enter the number and password for the common entrance door to enter. Also, contactless entry is required due to COVID-19. Due to the development of ICT, users can be easily identified through the development of face recognition and voice recognition technology. The proposed method detects a visitor's face through a CCTV or camera attached to the common entrance door, recognizes the face, and identifies it as a registered resident. Then, based on the registered information of the resident, it is possible to operate without contact by interworking with the elevator on the server. In particular, if face recognition fails with a hat or mask, the visitor is identified by voice or additional authentication of the visitor is performed based on the voice message. It is possible to block the spread of contagiousness without leaving any contactless function and fingerprint information when entering and exiting the front door of an apartment house, and without the inconvenience of access.
The various representations are receiving attention in modern society that has so many contents. Among them, the fantasy shows that you can not see in reality. But the intention of these fantasies is not giving a visual fun. The fantasy show the reality through stories that are not in reality. The fantasy that allows readers to continue to make the suspect between the real and the imagination and that suspect arises from the desire of real life. If the desire break the community, the social ideology will collapses. Conversely, if the desire is overturned by community, the social will be maintained. The goal of the fantasy which has the relationships of society is revealed through the various expressions of existence. They are divided into the subject and the other show the inner side of the main character. The subject shows the inner side of the main character by the transformation, alter ego and the other exists. The other shows the desire of the subject by the transformation, alter ego and the strangers. Disney animation studios select the target audience and the message in relation with the society. They choose the original like the fairy tale, myth and change them to satisfy the middle class. The characters of Disney animation says that messages by the expression of fantasy. The subject go through the transformation by twice. The first transformation is antisocial and the second transformation is social. The second shows a complete transformation. The other characters personified show the many kinds of the main character. The other as the alter ego of the main character represents the desire of the subject. They are described as an object of fear and exclusion. They expresses as a dark and menacing looks and hinders the complete transformation of the subject. But they were overthrown by the subject at the end of the story and it strengthen the social ideology. As a result, Disney highlights the value and the moral message of the society by using the representation of fantasy.
