Utilization of Graded Levels of Finger Millet (Eleusine coracana) in Place of Yellow Maize in Commercial Broiler Chicken Diets

  • An experiment was conducted to study the performance, carcass traits, serum lipid profile and immune competence in commercial broilers (2 to 42 d of age) fed graded levels (25, 50, 75 and 100%) of finger millet (FM) (Elusine coracana) in place (w/w) of yellow maize (YM). Each diet was fed to eight replicates (five female Vencobb broilers/replicate) housed in stainless steel battery brooders. The estimated metabolizable energy content of FM was about 540 kcal less than the YM. FM contained more protein (10.42 vs. 9.05%) and fibre (9.52 vs. 2.24%) compared to YM. Body weight gain, ready to cook yield, relative weights of giblet, liver, intestine and length of intestine at 42 d of age was not affected due to replacing YM with FM. But, the feed efficiency decreased in broilers fed diets containing 75 and 100% FM in place of YM at both 21 and 42 d of age. The amount of fat deposited in abdominal area decreased and the relative weight of gizzard increased with increase in level of FM in the diet. The serum HDL cholesterol at 21 and 42 d of age and serum triglycerides at 42 d of age decreased with increase in level of FM in diet. The relative weight of spleen and antibody titers against sheep red blood cells (SRBC) at 5 d post inoculation (PI) decreased in broilers fed FM at 100% of YM. However, the relative weight of bursa, SRBC titers at 10 d PI, antibody titers against ND virus and mortality were not affected due to incorporation of FM in place of YM in diet. The fat content in thigh muscle and liver decreased, while the protein content in these tissues increased with increase in the level of FM in broiler diet. Based on the results, it may be concluded that YM can be replaced with FM up to 25% on weight basis without affecting weight gain, carcass yields and immunity in commercial broiler diet (up to 42 d of age). Further, inclusion of finger millet reduced the fat deposition in thigh muscle, liver and in abdominal area compared to those fed maize as the principal source of energy.

Relationship on the lead exposure indices and symptoms by ALAD genotype in lead worker (연 노출 근로자들의 ALAD genotype에 따른 연 노출지표 및 증상과의 관련성)

  • A cross-sectional study was performed to evaluate associations between lead biomarkers, lead-related symptoms, and ${\delta}$-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) genotype among 598 lead workers and 144 control office workers in storage battery industries, secondary smelting and litharge making industries. Lead inhibits the second enzymes, ALAD, in the heme synthesis pathway. ALAD gene, which codes for one of three isozymic proteins (termed ALAD1-1, ALAD1-2, and ALAD2-2), seems to modify the toxicokinetics of lead. The result as follows; The percents of total workers whose genotype of ALAD1-1 and ALAD1-2 were 88.4% and 11.6%, respectively. The zinc protoporphyrin in blood (ZPP) and ${\delta}$-aminolevulinic acid in urine (ALAU) of lead workers with ALAD1-2 were significantly lower than those of lead workers with ALAD1-1, but there were no significant difference between two genotype for blood lead, age, and work duration. The proportion of ALAD1-2 genotype in control office workers was 13.2%. The proportions of ALAD1-2 genotype of lead workers were 14.0%(their mean air lead level below $0.024mg/m^3$), 10.4%($0.025-0.049mg/m^3$), 11.8%($0.050-0.099mg/m^3$), and 9.4%(above $0.100mg/m^3$), respectively. In the logistic analysis of 15 lead related symptoms, 'arthralgia'(S7) symptom of ALAD1-2 was significantly lower (OR=0.481; 95% CI=0.248-0.932) than that of ALAD1-1, but 'feeling of irritation'(S11) of ALAD1-2 was significantly higher(OR=1.636; 95% CI=1.035-2.586) than that of ALAD1-1 after controlling possible confounder (blood lead, work duration, smoking and drinking habit).

A Study on the Performance of Catalysts for the Recombination of Oxyhydrogen Gas Generated in Secondary Battery (이차전지내 발생하는 수소-산소 혼합기체 재결합용 촉매의 성능 측정 및 이론적 모델 연구)

  • The performance of catalysts for the recombination of oxyhydrogen gas was measured and compared with the results obtained from theoretical model. The oxyhydrogen gas was generated by the electrolysis cell and recombined through the fixed bed catalytic reactor. The yield that is the ratio of water-amount produced to the water-amount consumed in the electrolysis cell was increased with the increase of KOH concentration in electrolysis cell and the applied current. The catalyst 1 showed the best performance and the yield was under 60 %. The faradic yield calculated by Faraday's law showed about 100% in maximum with catalyst 1. The production rate of water generated by the recombination was 5-40 g/day dependent on the flow rate of mixed gas. Considering the results calculated from the pseudo-homogeneous catalytic reactor model, the hot point inside the reactor was moved to the direction of outlet and the maximum temperatures were $440-480^{\circ}K$ when the gas flow rate increased. The production rate of water calculated from the theoretical model showed good agreement with experimental results below the flow rate of $0.5cm^3/sec$, but there were much differences above that flow rate.

CLINICAL EVALUATION OF CHILDREN WITH INATTENTION AND HYPERACTIVITY IN A PSYCHIATRIC CLINIC (주의산만과 과잉운동을 주소로 하는 정신과 내원 아동들의 임상 평가)

  • The aim of this study is to examine the diagnostic profiles and related clinical variables of children with attention and hyperactivity in psychiatric outpatient clinic. Seventy one children with age range of 5 to 14 were diagnosed by DSM-IV, and assessment battery including KEDI-WISC, KPI-C, ADS(ADHD Diagnostic System) were completed. The subjects were divided into 3 diagnostic groups:ADHD only(n=17), ADHD comorbid(n=27), Other diagnosis(n=27). The results were as follows:In ADHD comorbid group, tic disorder, developmental language disorder, borderline intellectual function, oppositional defiant/conduct disorder, and learning disorder were combined in descending order. Other diagnosis group consisted of tic disorder, borderline intellectual function, depression/anxiety, oppositional defiant/conduct disorder, and others. There were significant differences in IQ, PIQ, and VIQ among the three groups, and ADHD only group showed higher scores of IQ and VIQ than ADHD comorbid group. On the KPI-C, there were no significant differences in all subscales among the three groups. On the visual ADS, omission error and sensitivity showed significant differences among the three groups, and ADHD comorbid group represented higher omission error and lower sensitivity than other diagnostic group. The findings indicated that the inattention and hyperactivity symptoms could be diagnosed into diverse psychiatric disorders in child psychiatry, and ADHD children with comorbidity will show more problems in academic performance and school adjustment.

Development of Portable Laryngeal Stroboscope (휴대형 후두 스트로보스콥의 개발)

  • Purpose: Evaluation of vocal cord vibration is very important in cases of voice disorders. There are several equipments for examining the vocal fold vibration such as laryngeal stroboscope, ultra high-speed digital imaging system, and videokymograph. Among these, laryngeal stroboscope is the most popular equipment because of easy to examine the laryngeal pathology. However, current laryngo-stroboscopes are too bulky to move and relatively expensive. The purpose of this research is to develope a portable laryngeal stroboscope of equivalent performance with the current equipments. Methods and Materials: Recently developed high luminescent white LEDs(light emitting diodes) are placed at the head of the endoscope as light sources for the CCD image sensor which is also placed at the head with imaging lens. This arrangement eliminates the bulky light source like expensive halogen or xenon lamps as well as the optical light guiding cables. The LEDs are controlled to flash in phase with the voice frequency of the examinee. The CCD captures these strobo images and converts them into video signals for examinations. Results: There was no functional differences between preexisting stroboscope and the newly developed stroboscope of this study. LED light sources and microprocessor based control circuits of the stroboscope enabled the development of flicker-less, hand-held, portable and battery-operating stroboscope. Conclusion: The developed stroboscope is cost-effective, small-sized, easy to use and very easy desirable to bring and to use in any place.

A study on Performing Time of Neurobehavioral Test in Workers exposed to Organic Solvents (유기용제 폭로 근로자에 있어서 신경행동검사의 시행시점에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to see whether neurobehavioral tests was affected by the exposure-free time in the workers chronically exposed to organic solvents. Thirty-four female workers were participated and four items among neurobehavioral core test battery of World Health Organization, including digit span, Santa Ana Dexterity, digit symbol and Benton Visual Retention, were administered to the workers. Test was conducted three times-preshift on Monday, preshift on Weekday and during shift on Weekday-per person and the interval of tests was 2 weeks. Digit span forward, Santa Ana Dexterity, digit symbol, and Benton Visual Retention showed significant decrements by performing time, especially during shift on Week-day versus preshift on Monday and preshift on Weekday. In addition, the score at preshift on Weekday was significantly lower than preshift on Monday, in preferred Santa Ana Dexterity and digit symbol. Generally, those who were exposed to high concentration, over 50 years and under 6 years of education showed marked decrease of score at during shift. So, it would be desirable that neurobehavioral test is conducted at preshift on Monday and items related to short term memory could be considerable to be done at preshift on Weekday.

Structural and Electrical Characterization of $LiMn_2O_4$ Synthesized by Solid State Reaction (고상 반응법에 의하여 합성된 $LiMn_2O_4$의 구조와 전기적 특성)

  • We have studied structural characterization, electrical charge and discharge, and impedence properties for the $LiMn_2O_4$ synthesized by solid state reaction. From the X-ray diffraction results, diffraction patterns for compounds of the four kinds of $LiMn_2O_4$ compounds were observed to peaks of (111), (311), (004) and (400). Also, Small similar peaks (110), (222) and (313) were observed for sample C1 and C2. Concerning to new peaks of (113) and (331) for the sample C4, we can found that structural transitions were accompanied from C1 and C2 to C4 via C3 structure. A electrical charge and discharge data showed that efficiency of C1 was very poor state and efficiencies of C2 and C3 were about 60-70% of theoretical capacity. But, the C4 showed good charge and discharge properties of more than 70% of theoretical capacity. From the impedence properties for finding the effect of ions and electrons transfer of battery, C2 and C3 of high frequency of real number showed good electrical impedence properties.

  • Recently, imitation and infringement rights of an intellectual property are being recognized as impediments to nation's industrial growth. To prevent the huge loss which comes from theses impediments, many researchers are studying protection and efficient management of an intellectual property in various ways. Especially, the prediction of patent registration is very important part to protect and assert intellectual property rights. In this study, we propose the patent document analysis method by using text mining to predict whether the patent is registered or rejected. In the first instance, the proposed method builds the database by using the word frequencies of the rejected patent documents. And comparing the builded database with another patent documents draws the similarity value between each patent document and the database. In this study, we used k-means which is partitioning clustering algorithm to select criteria value of patent rejection. In result, we found conclusion that some patent which similar to rejected patent have strong possibility of rejection. We used U.S.A patent documents about bluetooth technology, solar battery technology and display technology for experiment data.

  • The solid-state electrolyte based on polymer is applicable to various electrochemical devices including supercapacitor, battery, sensor, actuator and has great attention to develop its ionic conductivity from conventional polymer electrolyte by uisng wide range of ionic liquids. The research about ion gel as a solid state electrolyte with the ionic liquid has focused on the wearable and flexible electronic device to use as the high electrical and electrochemical performances, mechanical strength of polymer. In this work, we have investigated and developed solid-state electrolyte based on the ionic liquid and polymer with enhanced ionic conductivity and stability.

  • $LiMn_{1.92}Co_{0.08}O_4-x\;wt.%LiNi_{0.7}Co_{0.3}O_2$를 단순화한 연소법에 의하여 합성하고, 그것들의 전기화학적 특성을 조사하였다. 또한 30분동안 밀링하여 준비한 $LiMn_{1.92}Co_{0.08}O_4-x\;wt.%LiNi_{0.7}Co_{0.3}O_2$ (x=9, 23, 33, 41 and 47) 혼합물 전극의 전기화학적 특성을 조사하였다. x=33 조성의 전극이 가장 큰 초기방전용량(132.0mAh/g at 0.1C)을 나타내었다. x=9조성의 전극은 비교적 큰 초기방전용량(109.9mAh/g at 0.1C)과 우수한 싸이클 특성을 나타내었다. 싸이클링에 따른 혼합물 전극의 방전용량의 감소는 주로 $LiNi_{0.7}Co_{0.3}O_2$의 퇴화에 기인한다고 생각된다. 그런데 $LiNi_{0.7}Co_{0.3}O_2$의 퇴화는 $LiMn_{1.92}Co_{0.08}O_4$로부터 용해된 Mn이 $LiNi_{0.7}Co_{0.3}O_2$를 둘러쌈(coating)으로써 야기되는 것으로 생각된다.
