  • Many different schemes of the adaptive observer and controller have been developed for both continuous and discrete systems. In this paper we have presented a new scheme of the reduced order adaptive observer for the single input discrete linear time invariant plant. The output equation of the plant, is transformed into the bilinear form in terms of system parameters and the states of the state variable filters. Using the plant output equation the discrete implicit adaptive observer based on the similar philosophy to Nuyan and Carroll is derived and the parameter adaptation algorithm is derived based on the exponentially weighted least square method. The adaptive model following control system is also constructed according to the proposed observer scheme. The proposed observer and controller are rather than simple structure and have a fast adaptive algorithm, so it may be expected that the scheme is suitable to the practical application of control system design. The effectiveness of the algorithm and structure is illustrated by the computer simulation of a third order system. The simulation results show that the convergence speed is proportinal to the increasing of weighting factor alpha, and that the full order and reduced order observer have similar convergence characteristics.

  • A sufficent condition for the robust control of the adaptive control system is presented under the convergence of the parameters of the adaptive system. The plant in the adaptive control system is a stable system which includes the unmodelled dynamics and can be approximated by a minimum phase system. It is shown that modified structure which Kosut and Friedlander suggested satisfies the sufficient condition more easily than the original structure without modification. It is also shown by computer simulation that the modified structure and/ or the adaptation method using the normalized input and output data or filtered input and output data can improve the robustness of the adaptive control system.

  • In this paper, adaptive multi-stage parallel interference cancellation (PIC) receiver is considered for a multi-rate DS-CDMA system. In each stage of the adaptive multi-stage PIC receiver, multiple access interference (MAI) estimates are obtained using the sub-bit estimates from the Previous stage and the adaptive weights for the sub-bit estimates. The adaptive weights are obtained by minimizing the mean squared error between the received signal and its estimate through a least mean square (LMS) algorithm. It is shown that the adaptive multi- stage PIC receiver achieves smaller BER than the matched filter receiver, multi-stage PIC receiver, and multi-stage partial PIC receiver for the multi-rate DS-CDMA system in a Rayleigh fading channel.

  • Hydraulic system is difficult to obtain a suitable performance due to the nonlinearity load pressure change and system parameter variation. The requirement of control a1gorithm has been complex in order to satisfy the performance. The adaptive control is a control method which is suggested to achieve the control object under the plant characteristics change. In spite of the case that plant characteristics and the degree of variation are difficult to grasp. the adaptive control could keep the characteristics of closed-loop system generally. In this study. a method of combined generalized minimum variance adaptive control (GMVAC) and output error feedback is proposed, in order to solve the problem of non-minimum phase of plant and the vibration and overshoot in initial response. The control performance according to the variation of characteristics of plant is evaluated by changing the supply pressure. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the design of self-tuning adaptive control system that is robust to the changing dynamic configuration as well as to the load variation factors using Digital signal processors for robot manipulators. TMS320C50 is used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide advanced performance for robot manipulator, In this paper, an adaptive control scheme is proposed in order to design the pole-placement self-tuning controller which can reject the offset due to any load disturbance without a detailed description of robot dynamics. Parameters of discrete-time difference model are estimated by the recursive least-square identification algorithm, and controller parameters we determined by the pole-placement method. Performance of self-tuning adaptive controller is illusrated by the simulation and experiment for a SCARA robot.

  • Autoreclosure provides a mean of improving power transmitting ability and system stability. The conventional reclosure adopts the fixed dead time interval strategy, that is, the reclosure is activated after a time delay to restore the system to normal as quickly as possible without regard to the system conditions, however, these simple techniques cannot give the optimal operating performance. For this reason, various adaptive reclosure algorithms have been proposed recently, This paper presents an adaptive autoreclosure algorithm including the variable dead time, optimal reclosure, sequential reclosure and emergency extended equal-area criterion (EEAC) algorithm in order to improve the system stability. The reclosure algorithm performs out the operations that are attuned to the power system conditions. The proposed adaptive reclosure algorithm is verified and tested by using EMTP MODELS, and the simulation results show that the system oscillations are reduced and the transient stability is enhanced by employing the proposed adaptive reclosure algorithm.

  • Polygonal finite element provides a great flexibility in mesh generation of crack propagation problems where the topology of the domain changes significantly. However, the control of the discretization error in such problems is a main concern. In this paper, a polygonal-FEM is presented in modeling of crack propagation problems via an automatic adaptive mesh refinement procedure. The adaptive mesh refinement is accomplished based on the Zienkiewicz-Zhu error estimator in conjunction with a weighted SPR technique. Adaptive mesh refinement is employed in some steps for reduction of the discretization error and not for tracking the crack. In the steps that no adaptive mesh refinement is required, local modifications are applied on the mesh to prevent poor polygonal element shapes. Finally, several numerical examples are analyzed to demonstrate the efficiency, accuracy and robustness of the proposed computational algorithm in crack propagation problems.
