  • Yellow-emitting $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$:Ce nanocrystalline phosphor and orange-emitting CdS:Mn/ZnS core/shell quantum dots were prepared by a modified polyol and a reverse micelle chemistry, respectively. To compensate a poor color rendering index of YAG:Ce nanocrystalline phosphor due to the lack of red spectral component, CdS:Mn/ZnS quantum dots were blended into YAG:Ce. Based on spectral evolutions in the blended systems, hybrid white light emitting diodes are fabricated and characterized.

(Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)). 이를 solar cell에 적용하고 I-V curve를 통해 그 효율을 확인하였으며, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS)를 통해서 재결합 측면에서 나타나는 변화 양상을 확인하였다.

  • Abstract The experimental results which is the aerosols behavior and distribution of atomized zinc nitrate ($Zn(NO_3)_2$) solution (0.5 M) by ultrasonic vibrator were in accord with the computer simulations. i.e., most aerosols passing through the reactor (hot zone) moved toward the center of reactor by thermophoresis as the axis of reactor increase. Also, the distribution of aerosols concentration was high at the center of reactor as the axis increase. Among the synthesized ZnO particles, shell-like aggregates of fracture type which could not see at the center of reactor were observed at near the wall of reactor, and the particle size ($ 1.2 {\mu\textrm{m}$) of near the wall was larger than that ($0.9 {\mu\textrm{m}$) of the center.

  • Monodisperse ZnS colloidal particles with precisely specified diameters over a broad size range were synthesized by controlled aggregation. Sub-10nm ZnS seed crystals were first nucleated at ambient temperature and then grown at an elevated temperature, which produced large polydisperse colloidal particles. Subsequent rapid thermal quenching and heating processes induced a number of secondary nucleations in addition to growing the large polydisperse microparticles which were finally removed by centrifugation and discarded at the completion of the reaction. The secondary nuclei were then aggregated further at elevated temperatures, resulting in colloidal particles which exhibited a nearly monodisperse size distribution. Particle diameters were controlled over a wide size range from 50 nm to 1 μm. Mie simulations of the experiment extinction spectra determined that the volume fraction of the ZnS is 0.66 in an aggregated colloidal particle and the colloidal particle effective refractive index is approximately 2.0 at 590 nm in water. The surface of the colloidal particles was subsequently coated with silica to produce ZnS@silica core-shell particles.

  • Recently, many researchers have shown an increased interest in colloidal quantum dots (QDs) due to their unique physical and optical properties of size control for energy band gap, narrow emission with small full width at half maxima (FWHM), broad spectral photo response from ultraviolet to infrared, and flexible solution processing. QDs can be widely used in the field of optoelectronic and biological applications and, in particular, colloidal QDs based light emitting diodes (QDLEDs) have attracted considerable attention as an emerging technology for next generation displays and solid state lighting. A few methods have been proposed to fabricate white color QDLEDs. However, the fabrication of white color QDLEDs using single QD is very challenging. Recently, hybrid nanocomposites consisting of CdTe/ZnO heterostructures were reported by Zhimin Yuan et al.[1] Here, we demonstrate a novel but facile technique for the synthesis of CdTe/ZnO/G.O(graphene oxide) quasi-core-shell-shell quantum dots that are applied in the white color LED devices. Our best device achieves a maximum luminance of 484.2 cd/m2 and CIE coordinates (0.35, 0.28).

  • High-quality colloidal CdSe/ZnS (core/shell) is synthesized using a continuous microreactor. The particle size of the synthesized quantum dots (QDs) is a function of the precursor flow rate; as the precursor flow rate increases, the size of the QDs decreases and the band gap energy increases. The photoluminescence properties are found to depend strongly on the flow rate of the CdSe precursor owing to the change in the core size. In addition, a gradual shift in the maximum luminescent wave (${\lambda}_{max}$) to shorter wavelengths (blue shift) is found owing to the decrease in the QD size in accordance with the quantum confinement effect. The ZnS shell decreases the surface defect concentration of CdSe. It also lowers the thermal energy dissipation by increasing the concentration of recombination. Thus, a relatively high emission and quantum yield occur because of an increase in the optical energy emitted at equal concentration. In addition, the maximum quantum yield is derived for process conditions of 0.35 ml/min and is related to the optimum thickness of the shell material.

  • We modified the optical properties of the $CuInS_2$ nanocrystal (NC) by alloying. Nanocrystals (NCs) with alloyed cores were synthesized by refluxing the as-synthesized $CuInS_2$ NCs with a mixture of cadmium acetate, zinc acetate and palmitic acid. The shift in emission wavelength of the NCs after shell layer formation was minimized by alloying. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra showed significant reduction of emission intensity. A detailed study on the emission process of NCs implies that the formation of shell layers with small lattice mismatch minimized the mismatch strain generated from the shell layers in contrast to core alloyed NCs. In particular, time-resolved PL spectra of the NCs showed a significant increase in the lifetime of excited carriers by modifying the band alignment of the NCs by modifying the shell composition.

  • In this study, $ZnFe_2O_4@SnO_2@TiO_2$ core-shell nanoparticles (NPs), a photocatalytic material with magnetic properties, were synthesized through a three-step process. Structural properties were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. It was confirmed that $ZnFe_2O_4$ of the spinel, $SnO_2$ of the tetragonal and $TiO_2$ of the anatase structure were synthesized. The magnetic properties of synthesized materials were studied by a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The saturation magnetization value of $ZnFe_2O_4$, a core material, was confirmed at 33.084 emu/g. As a result of the formation of $SnO_2$ and $TiO_2$ layers, the magnetism due to the increase in thickness was reduced by 33% and 40%, respectively, but sufficient magnetic properties were reserved. The photocatalytic efficiency of synthesized materials was measured using methylene blue (MB). The efficiency of the core material was about 4.2%, and as a result of the formation of $SnO_2$ and $TiO_2$ shell, it increased to 73% and 96%, respectively while maintaining a high photocatalytic efficiency. In addition, the antibacterial activity was validated via the inhibition zone by using E. Coli and S. Aureus. The formation of shells resulted in a wider inhibition zone, which is in good agreement with photocatalytic efficiency measurements.

  • Mn, Zn, Cd and Pb in shells of Littorina brevicula, which lives ubiquitously in intertidal zone around the Korean coast, were analyzed to determine the relationship between metal levels in its shell, ambient seawater and its tissue. Periwinkles and seawater samples were collected from 38 sites along the Korean coast in January 1997. Mn contents in shells of this organism show the range of 7.0 ${\mu}g$/g-211 ${\mu}g$/g (mean 59 ${\mu}g$/g) and are the lowest in northern east coast but high in western south and west coast. Close relationship between Mn contents in shells and metal levels both in seawater and in tissues indicates that Mn in shell might be incorporated from ambient seawater by a biological process. Although the contents of Cd in shells did not reflect the distribution of total Cd in seawaters and they were very low compared to those in tissues, they followed spatial gradient of contents in tissues. However, the spatial distribution of Zn contents in shells accords neither ambient seawater nor tissues, while it is negatively correlated with the contents of Na in shells. This fact suggests that Zn contents might be controlled by salinity of ambient seawater. On the contrary, Zn contents in highly polluted sites near Onsan Bay show generally higher levels than other sites. The contents of Pb show the range of 0.1 ${\mu}g$/g-17.5 ${\mu}g$/g (mean 1.01 ${\mu}g$/g) and the highest in sites near Onsan Bay. Although the spatial distribution of shell Pb does not follow those of tissue, Pb in shells of Littorina brevicula may be controlled both by shell secretion process and by Pb levels in ambient seawater because the contents of Pb in the shell decrease steadily with growth and vary with levels of Pb in ambient seawater.
