This study was conducted to develop a combined method for remediating a Chlorinated Aliphatic Hydrocarbons (CAHs) mixtures-contaminated aquifer. The process is consist of two processes. A chemical process (1st) using natural zinc ores for reducing higher concentrations of CAH mixtures to the level at which biological process is feasible; and A biological process (2nd) using aerobic cometabolism for treating lower concentration of CAH mixtures (less than 1 mg/L). Natural zinc ore showed relatively high transformation capacity, average dehalogenation percentage, and the best economic efficiency in previously our study. To evaluate the feasibility of the process, we operated two columns in series (that is, chemical and biological columns). In the first column filled with natural zinc ore and sand, CAH mixtures were effectively transformed with more than 95% efficiency, the efficiency depends on the Empty Bed Contact Time (EBCT) and the mass of zinc ore packed. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis were performed to make sure whether natural zinc ore played an key role in the dechlorination of the CAH mixtures. The characteristics of zinc metal surface changed after exposure to CAHs due to oxidation of $Zn^0$ to $Zn^{2+}$. In the biological column injecting propane, DO and effluent of the chemical column, only 1,1,1-TCA was cometabolically transformed. Consequently, the combined process would be effective to remediate an aquifer contaminated with high concentrations of CAH mixtures.

Stationary combustion sources such as coal-fired power plants, waste incinerators, industrial manufacturing, etc. are recognized as major sources of mercury emissions. Due to rapid economic growth, zinc production in Korea has increased significantly during the last 30 years. Total zinc production in Korea exceeded 739,000 tons in 2008, and Korea is currently the third largest zinc producing country in the world. Previous studies have revealed that zinc smelting has become one of the largest single sectors of total mercury emissions in the World. However, studies on this sector are very limited, and a large gap in the knowledge regarding emissions from this sector needs to be bridged. In this paper, Hg emission measurements were performed to develop emission factors from zinc smelting process. Stack sampling and analysis were carried out utilizing the Ontario Hydro method and US EPA method 101A. Preliminary data showed that $Hg^0$ concentrations in the flue gas ranged from 4.56 to $9.90\;{\mu}g/m^3$ with an average of $6.40\;{\mu}g/m^3$, Hg(p) concentrations ranged from 0.03 to $0.09\;{\mu}g/m^3$ with an average of $0.04\;{\mu}g/m^3$, and RGM concentrations ranged from 0.23 to $1.17\;{\mu}g/m^3$ with an average of $6.40\;{\mu}g/m^3$. To date, emission factors of 7.5~8.0 g/ton for Europe, North America and Australia, and of 20 or 25 g/ton for Africa, Asia and South America are widely accepted by researchers. In this study, Hg emission factors were estimated using the data measured at the commercial facilities as emissions per ton of zinc product. Emission factors for mercury from zinc smelting pross ranged from 4.32 to 12.96 mg/ton with an average of 8.31 mg/ton. The emission factors that we obtained in this study are relatively low, considering Hg contents in the zinc ores and control technology in use. However, as these values are estimated by limited data of single measurement of each, the emission factor and total emission amount must be updated in future.
Numerous base-metal bearing hydrothermal quartz vein deposits occur in the Hunan province of southern China. The Tangguanpu lead-zinc-tin-silver mine is the major producer among these deposits. Lead-zinc-tin-silver mineralization occurs in a single stage of massive quartz veins which filled fractures in fault zones within Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks. Sphalerite, chalcopyrite, galena, pyrite, arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite are the principal sulphide minerals in the Tangguanpu lead-zinc ores with minor amounts of tin- and antimony-bearing sulphides (stannite, teallite, boulangerite and tetrahedrite). Based on the iron and zinc partitioning between coexisting stannite and sphalerite, the formation temperature for this mineral assemblage range from 300$^{\circ}$ to 330$^{\circ}$C, which relatively agree with the upper part of homogenization temperature of fluid inclusion in quartz (20T-358$^{\circ}$C). Fluid inclusion data show that main lead-zine-tin-silver mineralization occurred from $H_{2}O$-NaCl fluids with relatively low salinities (11.2-7.3 wl.% eg. NaCI) at temperatures between 207$^{\circ}$ and 358$^{\circ}$C. The relationship between homogenization temperature and salinity suggests a history of cooling and dilution followed by initial boiling. Evidence of initial fluid boiling may indicate the fluid trapping pressures of 180 bars. The ${\delta}^{34}S{{\Sigma}S}$ values of -5.0 to 1.1 %, indicate an igneous source of sulfur in the Tangguanpu lead-zinc-tin-silver hydrothermal fluids.
Minerals of system Ag-Sb have been found in iead-zinc (-silver) ores from the Dongjeom and the Taebaeg ore deposits, which were formed at later stage of the Yeonhwa 1 mine mineralization. The Ag-Sb minerals are intergrown intimately with galena, pyrargyrite and alabandite. Their chemical compositions as determined by electron microprobe analyser show that they are chracterized by relatively high content of S, up to 5.89 atomic percent. Also the composition of the minerals may be separated into two: Ag3.89 Sb1.00-Ag7.19 Sb1.00 and Ag2.96 Sb1.00-Ag4.00 Sb1.00.
A trial manulacturing of the micronutrient fertilizer made of local mineral ores was conducted. A powdered mixture of raw materials was fused in an electric furnance and the molten matrix was quenched, dried and milled. Some informations from the manufacturing were summarized as followings. 1. Of all the ore minerals, only borax and manganese ores could be molten independently. 2. Borax was the best material for decreasing the molten temperature. 3. The molten temperature was increased with increased Ca and Mg content of the mixture. 4. The amounts of 2 % citric acid soluble Fe, Zn, and Mo were increased rapidly with increased temperature, but those of B and Mn were constant. 5. During the manufacturing process, the nutrient loss was high in order of boron, zinc and molybdenium.
The purpose of this study was to compare the retention of complete cast crown over amalgam ores, composite resin cores, and cast gold cores when cemented with three different luting agents. Eighteen core specimens each of amalgam(Bestaloy, Dong Myung, Seoul, Korea), composite resin (Z100, 3M Dental product, st. Paul, Minn) and type IV gold alloy (Ba-4, Heesung Engelhard Corp., Korea) were made in a customized milling stainless steel die. A wax pattern with a loop attached to occlusal surface was made for each core and a type II gold alloy casting was fabricated. The castings which had clinically acceptable marginal fit were used as test samples. The following luting cements were used to cement cast crowns on each core material : (1) zinc phosphate cement (Confi-dental Products Co., USA) (2) glass-ionomer cement (Fuji Plus, GC Industrial Corp., Tokyo, Japan) (3) resin cement (Panavia 21, Kuraray Co., USA). All cements were mixed according to manufacturers' instructions. A static load of 5kg was then applied for 10 minutes on the crowns. All specimens were stored in saline solution for 24 hours at $37^{\circ}C$ and thermocycled for 500 cycles. After storage and cycling, the tensile bond strengths were measured by using a universal testing machine (Instron Corp., Canton, Mass.) at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The results were as follows 1. The retentive strength of resin cement was the highest of alt three types of cement for resin core (p<0.05). 2. There was no statistical difference among the retentive strengths of three cements for amalgam core (p>0.05). 3. The retentive strength of resin cement was higher than that of zinc phosphate for cast core, but there was no difference between the retentive strength of glass ionomer cement and those of rein and zinc phosphate cement. 4. The retentive strength of the zinc phosphate cement for amalgam core was the highest of all type of cores.
In the zinc-lead (-silver) ores from the Yeonhwa 1 mine, stannite is widespread, though minor in amount It may be divided largely into two species on the basis of its chronological order during mineralization; i.e., stannite I formed in Stage I, and stannite II formed in Stage II. Also, the mineral may be classified into two types according to the difference of its associates; i.e., stannite 1 closely associated with sphalerite, and stannite 2 with galena. In general, the stannite 1 tends to predominate in the stannite I and the stannite 2 in the stannite II. The formation temperature and sulphur fugacity of stannite 1 deduced from stannite-sphalerite geothermometry are from 280 to $350^{\circ}C$ and from $10^{-11}$ to $10^{-8}$ atm.
Electrical pulse disintegration(ED) is known as an efficient technology for recovering valuable resources by inducing dielectric breakdown in solids to separate mineral interfaces in ores among the crushing technologies by high voltage discharge. In this study, ED crushing experiment and mechanical crushing experiment of sulfide minerals were performed, and SEM analysis and Microfocus X-Ray CT of the crushed product were performed in order to analyze the disintegration characteristics of zinc minerals exist in the sulfide minerals by the shock wave generated in the solid by high voltage discharge.
This study investigated the mineralogical characteristics and basic flotation properties of domestic molybdenum ores. The source mineral of molybdenum was identified as molybdenite, and the main gangue minerals in the raw ore were silicate minerals. Copper, lead, and zinc were also found in trace amounts. Based on the results of basic flotation properties, molybdenite's zeta potential showed negative charges in all pH ranges. The contact angle of molybdenite increased with pH, reaching a maximum of 74° at pH 9. In optimal conditions, the grade and recovery of the concentrate by unit flotation were MoS2 82.4% and 92.04%, respectively. Further investigation of the impurities in the concentrate revealed a sulfide mineral with surface characteristics similar to molybdenite and silicate minerals combined with molybdenite, which may degrade the quality of the concentrate. To improve the concentrate quality, we intend to control silicate minerals through regrinding and liberation and use column flotation to improve fine particle separation efficiency.
The surveyed mines are located in a polymetallic vein, replacement, and skarn mineral district in the central Andes of Peru. Iscaycruz, which includes underground and open pit mines that produce zinc and lead concentrates, was the largest mineral deposit of an important group of base metal deposits in the Andes of central Peru. The deposits are sub-vertical seams of polymetallic ores(Zn, Cu, and Pb). These seams are hosted by Jurassic and Cretaceous sedimentary rock formation. The intrusion of igneous rocks in these formations originated metallic deposits of metasomatic and skarn types. The Raura mine is composed of polymetallic deposit of veins and replacement orebodies. The main sedimentary unit in the area is Cretaceous Machay Limestone. The Raura depression contains several orebodies each with different mineralization: predominantly Pb-Zn bearing Catuvo orebody; Ag-rich galena-bearing Lake Ninacocha orebody; Cu-Ag bearing Esperanza and Restauradora orebody. Huaron is a hydrothermal polymetallic deposit of silver, lead, zinc, and copper mineralization hosted within structures likely related to the intrusion of monzonite dikes, principally located within the Huaron anticline. Mineralization is encountered in veins parallel to the main fault systems, in replacement bodies known as "mantos" associated with the calcareous sections of the conglomerates and other favourable stratigraphic horizons, and as dissemination in the monzonitic intrusions at vein intersections.
