A New-Generation Sensorless Vector Control Scheme for Induction Motor Drive

  • This paper presents some results of performance evaluation test via actual machines of a new hybrid vector control utilizing a new indirect orientation scheme and stable filter embedded direct orientation scheme for induction motors without speed or position sensor. It is shown through the test by 0.3(kW) and 3.7(kW) motors that the proposed sensorless vector control has the following high potentialities: 1) speed range is 0 to 600(rad/s) or more, 2) zero-speed command is accepted and settles the machines at a stable standstill with no vibration 3) it can make machines to track variable command of acceleration and deceleration $\pm$6,000(rad/s2), 4) it can make machines to drive directly load of at least 26 times larger inertia than that of the machine, 5) it can make machines to produce much larger torque than the rating in torque control mode even at standstill. The performance confirmed by the test is far away for previous schemes or sensorless drive apparatuses.

  • This paper presents a systematic study for control loops in the induction motor drive system employing a load commutated current source inverter (LCCSI) which has appeared since the early 1980's, and their effects on the dynamic stability of the system. A set of dq equations which amalgamate the overall system is developed, and from the equations it is revealed that the steady state characteristics of the LCCSI-induction motor system are between VSI and ASCI. When the speed control loop is constructed without a speed sensor, the evaluation of the pole/zero locations and the assessment of the stability for the added loops are investigated. We also show that the V/F loop is essential in this type of drive without the speed sensor.

  • The development of the European railway high speed network brings new problems related to the interoperability across the railways of different countries. The pantograph and the overhead wire form a dynamic coupled system and they affect each other through the contact force. Unfortunately, as the operational speed of a train increases, the vibration of the pantograph and the overhead wire also increases. This may lead to a zero contact force between the pantograph head and the overhead wire, which can results in the loss of contact, arching and abrasion. If the arching and spark happen between the pantograph and the overhead catenary system, the EMI(electro magnetic interface) and noises may occur. After an, the quality of current collection is deteriorated. This paper describes the dynamic response between the pantograph and catenary system by the numerical simulations and predicts the possibility of operating the high speed train in the conventional lines.

Accuracy Enhancement of Parameter Estimation and Sensorless Algorithms Based on Current Shaping

  • Dead time is typically incorporated in voltage source inverter systems to prevent short circuit cases. However, dead time causes an error between the output voltage and reference voltage. Hence, voltage equation-based algorithms, such as motor parameter estimation and back electromotive force (EMF)-based sensorless algorithms, are prone to estimation errors. Several dead-time compensation methods have been developed to reduce output voltage errors. However, voltage errors are still common in zero current crossing areas, and an effect of the error is much worse in a low speed region. Therefore, employing voltage equation-based algorithms in low speed regions is difficult. This study analyzes the conventional dead-time compensation method and output voltage errors in low speed operation areas. A current shaping method that can reduce output voltage errors is also proposed. Experimental results prove that the proposed method reduces voltage errors and improves the accuracy of the parameter estimation method and the performance of the back EMF-based sensorless algorithm.

Optimal Power Control Strategy for Wind Farm with Energy Storage System

  • The use of energy storage systems (ESSs) has become a feasible solution to solve the wind power intermittency issue. However, the use of ESSs increases the system cost significantly. In this paper, an optimal power flow control scheme to minimize the ESS capacity is proposed by using the zero-phase delay low-pass filter which can eliminate the phase delay between the dispatch power and the wind power. In addition, the filter time constant is optimized at the beginning of each dispatching interval to ensure the fluctuation mitigation requirement imposed by the grid code with a minimal ESS capacity. And also, a short-term power dispatch control algorithm is developed suitable for the proposed power dispatch based on the zero-phase delay low-pass filter with the predetermined ESS capacity. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed power management approach, case studies are carried out by using a 3-MW wind turbine with real wind speed data measured on Jeju Island.

  • In this paper, the operational performance of SRM can be improved by using current hysteresis control method. This method maintains a generally flat current waveform. At the high speed, the current chopping capability is lost due to the development of the back-EMF. Therefore SRM operates in single pulse mode. By using zero-current switching and zero-voltage switching technique, the stress of power switches can be reduce in chopping mode. When the commutation from one phase winding to another phase winding, the current can be zero as fast as possible in this period because several times negative voltage of DC-source voltage produce in phase winding. This paper is compared to performance based on conventional C-dump converter topology and the proposed resonant C-dump converter topology Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed circuit.

  • In these days, environmental concerns have been increased throughout the industry and community worldwide. To prevent the ozone depletion, ozone depletion potential of a refrigerant must be zero. Simultaneously, a refrigerant with low GWP (global warming potential) is very demanding to induce green house effect. Chlorine-free HFC-l34a is a refrigerant widely used for automotive air-conditioning system because its destruction potential is ecologically zero. Although HFC-l34a has no ozone depletion potential, its global warming potential is so high that it is not considered as a perfect alternative refrigerant that is acceptable for long-term use. In this paper, experimental measurement has been carried out to analyze the performance characteristics of automotive air-conditioning system using HFC-152a, which has low GWP and zero ODP. Also mixed refrigerant that is composed of HFC-152a and $CF_3$ was applied to investigate an alternative possibility for the automotive airconditioning system. As a result of this study, we could draw following conclusions; With respect to the variation of the rotational speed of compressor, outside air temperature and flow rate, the heat amount of evaporator and compressor and performance coefficient was varied.

  • 동기식 스트림 암호에 적용하기 위한 여러 가지 Zero suppression(ZS) 알고리즘 중에서 ZS-2 알고리즘은 블록동기기능 제거, 구현 용이성 등 여러 가지 좋은 특성을 보여주고 있다. 하지만, 이 방법은 채널 오류 확산 측면에서 취약점을 보이고 있다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 열악한 잡음 채널에서 오류 확률에 따른 성능을 개선하기 위하여 ZS-2에서 실행했던 대체 블록에서의 대체 비트 수를 최소화시키는 새로운 방법을 제안하였다. 결과적으로, 제안된 ZS-3 기법은 n=8에서 평균 오류 확산을 ZS-2의 값 보다 18.7% 떨어뜨리는 좋은 특성을 나타냄을 확인하였다.

실내 3D 게임 장면의 잠재적 가시 집합을 위한 효과적인 하드웨어 압축 구조 (An Effective Structure of Hardware Compression for Potentially Visible Set of Indoor 3D Game Scenes)

  • 대규모 실내 3D 게임 장면에서 차폐 컬링 정보를 미리 계산하는 잠재적 가시 집합(potentially visible set: PVS)은 데이터를 처리하고 저장해야하는 양이 상당히 크지만 많은 부분이 0으로 표현된다. 본 논문에서는 모바일 환경의 3D 게임 장면 트리 구성 중에 PVS 데이터를 ZRLE (zero run length encoding) 방식으로 압축하는 효과적인 하드웨어 압축 구조를 설계한다. 3D 게임 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안하는 구조의 PVS 데이터 압축 비율, PVS 컬링과 절두체 컬링에 따른 렌더링 속도 (frame per second: FPS)를 분석하였다.
