A mechanism for the synthesis of benzophenone from oxidation of diphenylmethane under Aliquit 336 phase transfer catalyst is investigated in this study. The production rate of benzophenone increased with the increasing amount of Allquat 336 and potassium tert-butoxide. At low concentrations of diphenylmethane and oxygen, the reaction order was first with the concentrations of diphenylmethane and oxygen respectively, but it approached to zero order at high concentrations. Tert-butyl alcohol, by-product of the reaction, inhibited the formation of benzophenone. Experimental results fit fairly well to the following initial reaction rate equation derived from reaction mechanism. $$({\gamma}_{BP})_0={\frac{k_1k_3k_5[QCI]_0[DPM]_0[PTB]_0[O_2]_0}{k_2k_4[TBA]_0+k_2k_5[O_2]_0+k_3k_5[O_2]_0[DPM]_0}}$$
Rheological properties of gelatinized millet starch dispersions were evaluated. Gelatinized nonwaxy and waxy millet starch dispersion were typical pseudoplastic fluids. At constant shear rate, gelatinized waxy millet starch dispersion showed higher shear stress than nonwaxy millet starch dispersion. Flow behaviours of gelatinized nonwaxy and waxy millet starch dispersion were well fitted to Herschel-Bulkley equation and flow behaviour index (n) and consistency index (K) were strongly concentration dependent. There was a linear relationship between concentration of gelatinized starch dispersion and square root of yield stress. The concentrations of gelatinized nonwaxy and waxy millet starch dispersion where yield stresses become zero were estimated as 2.19 and 1.69%, respectively. Pseudoplastic constant (m) approaches to a constant value in each type of millet starch when the concentration of gelatinized starch dispersion was increased. As the measuring temperatures increase, n value was increased, whereas, K value was decreased. The activation energies of gelatinized nonwaxy and waxy millet starch dispersion were 2.89 and 3.18kcal/mol, respectively.

This paper introduces a safer and more power efficient heater by using induction heating, to apply to the semiconductor wafer fabrication exhaust gas cleaning system. The exhaust gas cleaning system is currently made with filament heater that generates an endothermic reaction of N2 gas for the removal of moisture. Induction theory, through the bases of theoretical optimization and electronic implementation, is applied in the design of the induction heater specifically for the semiconductor wafer exhaust system. The new induction heating design provides a solution to the issues with the current energy inefficient, unreliable, and unsafe design. A robust and calibrated design of the induction heater is used to optimize the energy consumption. Optimization is based on the calibrated ZVS induction circuit design specified by the resonant frequency of the exhaust pipe. The fail-safe energy limiter embedded in the system uses a voltage regulator through the feedback of the MOSFET control, which allows the system performance to operate within the specification of the N2 Heater unit. A specification and performance comparison from current conventional filament heater is made with the calibrated induction heater design for numerical analysis and the proof of a better design.

Porous walkway blocks are constructed for the purpose already, but reserved water is easily consumed due to the bigger permeability than necessary. Furthermore, porous structure reduces the strength of blocks, which resulting cracking and settlements in walkways. In this study, we suggested a solution for given problems by determination for the location of minimum principal stress in walkway blocks against moving foot loads in order to design and verifying the determined location of minimum principal stress. An optimum design with a verification example for determined location of minimum principal stress have been presented in a two dimensional Block member on elastic foundation for pedestrian walkway for reserving water inside. The minimum value for sum of shear forces is found when ${\times}1$ is 58.58 mm(30% of total span, 200mm), while the minimum deformation is located at ${\times}2=80mm$(70% of total span, 200 mm). In a modified model, When moving boundary condition(walkway foot loads) is located at ${\times}1$(=0 mm), the location of minimum principal stresses is found at 168 mm( 84% of span, 200 mm), in which the stress concentration due to the foot load is modeled as two layers of distributed loads(reactions of foundation modeled as springs). Consequently, zero deformed reservoirs for rainwater on the neutral axis (${\times}2=167mm$) has been determined in the modified model with three dimensional FEM analysis verifications.

The purpose of this study was to comparatively evaluate thermal and water transmission properties of several vapor permeable water repellent (VPWR) fabrics and synthetic battings that became available in recent years. Five VPWR fabrics evaluated were Hipora in three coating variants, $Gore-Tex^{\circledR}$ and $Aitace^{\circledR}$. Battings evaluated were $Viwarma^{\circledR}$, $Uniwarmr^{\circledR}$, $Thinsulate^{\circledR}$, and $Airseal^{\circledR}$ Thermal resistance and water vapor transmission were measured for each fabric and batting and in all combinations. Thermal resistance at zero and 37 cm/sec air velocity was determined by the Thermo Labo II technique for simultaneously measuring conduction and radiation heat transfer. Water vapor transmission over 24 hours was measured by a modified weight-gain method in a compact humid chamber at conditions simulating the clothing climate under heavy exercise ($40{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, $90{\pm}2\%$ R.H., and 0.5 m/sec air velocity). Fabric porosity was calculated from fiber density and fabric weight, thickness, and area. Thermal resistance results for the fabrics showed the effectiveness of coatings in inhibiting heat transfer. Measurements taken in wind were: $31.1\~37.6\%$ for $Hipora^{\circledR}$ variants; $31.0\%$ for $Gore-Tex^{\circledR}$; and $18.4\%$ for $Aitaca^{\circledR}$ Measurements without wind were higher but in the same order. Water vapor transmission results were in reverse order: $Aitac^{\circledR}$, $8.8 kg/m^{2};\;Gore-Tex^{\circledR}$, 6.4 kg/$m^{2}$; and $Hipora^{\circledR},\;4.4\~6.0\;kg/m^{2}$. In general thermal resistance increased with porosity. For battings, the thermal resistance with wind results were: $Viwarmu^{\circledR}$, $65.0\%;\; Thinsulate^{\circledR}$, $62.0\%$; $Uniwarm^{\circledR}$, $61.0\%$; and $Airseala^{\circledR},\;53.1\%$. Thermal resistance was proportional to thickness. Thermal resistance of fabric-batting combinations were $20\%$ higher than those of the battings only. Water vapor transmission for combinations was mainly affected by that for the VPWR fabric used.
$^14$C-sucrose was labeled on detached panicles and $^14{CO}_2$ on flag leaves or panicles of intact plants to study grain sink activity in spring oats cultivar Pennfield. Defoliation and emasculation experiment was conducted to study source-sink relationship during grain filling. Specific activity of groat rose up to 15 days after anthesis and declined rapidly to 18 days. Daily gain of groat wt. matched closely with specific activity of. groat during grain filling. Primary groats were higher in specific activity of groat than secondary groats.$^14{CO}_2$ exposure on panicle was three times higher in specific activity of groat than $^14{CO}_2$exposure on flag leaf. In the defoliation and emasculation experiment, groat wt. of Pennfield oats decreased as ratio of source/sink decreased. Half number of spikelets with half leaf area was no different in groat wt. compared to control, but normal number of spikelets with zero leaf area was decreased 16% in groat wt., indicating a significant compensation by green area on panicle.

The red mud generated from bauxite during the Bayer alumina production process has been regarded as an industrial waste due to the high alkaline property and high content of Na. Despite of its environmental problem, various studies for recovery of the valuable resources from red mud has been also carried out because of high content (25.7 wt.% as Fe2O3 in this study) of iron in red mud. In order to recover the iron resource in the red mud, microwave heating experiments were performed with adding of activated carbon and elemental sulfur to the red mud. Through the microwave heating the powdered red mud mixtures converted to porous and vitrified solid aggregates. The vitrified aggregates produced by microwave heating are composed of goethite, zero valent iron (Fe0), pyrrhotite and pyrite. And then, the microwave heating samples were dissolved in the aqua regia solution, and Fe precipitates were obtained as a Fe-chlorides by adding of NaCl salt in the aqua regia solution. The Fe recovery rates in the Fe-chloride precipitates showed differences depending on the experimental mixture conditions, and Fe grades of the end products are 49.0 wt.%, 58.0 wt.% and 59.5 wt.% under mixture conditions of red mud, red mud + activated carbon, and red mud + activated carbon + elemental S, respectively. The Fe content of 56.0 wt.% is generally known as the grade value of Fe in a iron ore for iron production, and the Fe grades of microwave heating samples with adding activated carbon and elemental S in this study are higher than the grade value of 56.0 wt.%.
This study was carried out in order to reduce the amount of underground water which is used in the double layered single span plastic greenhouse for retaining heat. For this research, two plastic green houses of the double layered single span plastic greenhouse were installed. There was equipped of internal small tunnel for keeping warm air in the interior of the house. Then the internal small tunnel for keeping warm air was fitted with PVC duct of 50 cm in diameter filled with subsurface water. The surplus solar energy in the greenhouse was stored in the water in the PVC duct. Four FCUs (Fan Coil Unit), which has the capacity of 8,000 kcal per hour, were installed in the middle of the house, and a circulation motor in heat storage water tank was operated from 10:30 a.m. to 16:00 p.m. in order to circulate water between the water tank and the FCUs. Consequently about 5 degrees celsius could be maintained in the interior of the internal small tunnel for keeping warm air with the external temperature of lower than minus 5 degrees celsius. It appeared that the alteration of an internal temperature of the house was flexible depending on the sunlight during daytime. To prevent the water freezing, mixing antifreezing liquid in the water or operating FCU continuously was needed. Also, in order to use the surplus solar thermal energy on plastic green house of water curtain system efficiently, storing the surplus heat during daytime simultaneously finding a method of using water curtain systematic underground water happened to be important. As a result of this research, when the house's interior temperature is below zero the operation of FCU appeared to be impossible. Considering the amount of water used in the house with water-curtain-heating system is 150~200 ton per day, using the system mentioned in this research showed that reducing the underground water more than 80% in order to maintain the internal temperature as the level of 5 degree celsius at the extreme temperature of minus 5 degrees celsius.
This paper presents and analyzes laboratory test results of Equalization Digital On-Channel Repeater (EDOCR) using ATSC(Advanced Television Systems Committee) terrestrial digital TV broadcasting system. The EDOCR laboratory test, which is done at CRC(Communications Research Centre) Canada, is classified to receiver test, transmitter test, and synchronization test between transmission and reception frequencies. The receiver part includes feedback signal, random noise, single echo, multi-path ensemble, and NTSC/DTV interference test. The transmitter part includes out-of channel emission, quality of transmitting signal, and phase noise test. By the field test results, the receiver part of the EDOCR eliminates average 5.5 dB of feedback or single echo signal in range of 0 to 11 ${\mu}s$ and has average 18.6 dB at TOV(Threshold of Visibility) under random noise environment. Also, the transmitter part of the EDOCR satisfies the specification of US FCC(Federal Communications Commission), and frequency difference between transmitter and receiver is zero.
In H.264/AVC, 4$\times$4 block transform is used for intra and inter prediction instead of 8$\times$8 block transform. Using small block size coding, H.264/AVC obtains high temporal prediction efficiency, however, it has limitation in utilizing spatial redundancy. Motivated on these points, we propose a multi-dimensional transform which achieves both the accuracy of temporal prediction as well as effective use of spatial redundancy. From preliminary experiments, the proposed multi-dimensional transform achieves higher energy compaction than 2-D DCT used in H.264. We designed an integer-based transform and quantization coder for multi-dimensional coder. Moreover, several additional methods for multi-dimensional coder are proposed, which are cube forming, scan order, mode decision and updating parameters. The Context-based Adaptive Variable-Length Coding (CAVLC) used in H.264 was employed for the entropy coder. Simulation results show that the performance of the multi-dimensional codec appears similar to that of H.264 in lower bit rates although the rate-distortion curves of the multi-dimensional DCT measured by entropy and the number of non-zero coefficients show remarkably higher performance than those of H.264/AVC. This implies that more efficient entropy coder optimized to the statistics of multi-dimensional DCT coefficients and rate-distortion operation are needed to take full advantage of the multi-dimensional DCT. There remains many issues and future works about multi-dimensional coder to improve coding efficiency over H.264/AVC.
