Pressure Analyses at the Planar Surface of Liquid-Vapor Argon by a Test-Area Molecular Dynamics Simulation

  • Pressure tensors at the planar surface of liquid-vapor argon are evaluated from the virial theorem, Irving-Kirkwood, and Harasima versions using a test-area molecular dynamics simulation method through a Lennard-Jones intermolecular potential at two temperatures. We found that the normal and transverse components of the pressure tensor, $p_N(z)$ and $p_T(z)$, obtained from the virial theorem and Harasima version are essentially the same. The normal component of the pressure tensor from Irving-Kirkwood version, $p_N^{IK}(z)$, is shown to be a nearly constant at the lower temperature, independent of z, as agreed in a previous study, but not for $p_N^H$(z), while the transverse components, $p_T^{IK}(z)$ and $p_T^H(z)$, are almost the same. The values of surface tension for both versions computed from $p_N(z)-p_T(z)$ are also the same and are fully consistent with the experimental data.

Maneuverabilities of Skipjack Pole and Liner (가다랑어 채낚기 어선의 조종 성능에 관한 연구)

  • The maneuverabilities of 240 GT class skipjack pole and liner were studied, based on the maneuvering indices and the data which were obtained from Z test of the experimental ship, the m.s. KWANACKSAN, the training ship of the National Fisheries University of Busan. The maneuvering indices K' of the experimental ship were 0.611(at 10$^{\circ}$Z test), 0.622(at 20$^{\circ}$Z test) and 0.556(at 30$^{\circ}$Z test). Her maneuvering indices T' were 1.094(at 10$^{\circ}$Z test), 1.695(at 20$^{\circ}$Z test) and 1.367(at 30$^{\circ}$Z test). The above calculated values K', T' showed that her turning ability at helm angle 20$^{\circ}$ and her obeying ability at helm angle 10$^{\circ}$ were most effective. As it appeared that the calculated K'-values of the experimental ship were smaller than the standard K'-values of different kinds of ships and her overshoot angles at her Z test were greater than those of them, her turning ability was found to be lower. When the experimental ship took a turn at her 10$^{\circ}$Z test, running distance was about 8.3 times her own length and didn't exceed the standard maneuvering distance, 5 to 11 times ship's own length, therefore she was considered to have good maneuverabilities synthetically.

  • The maneuverabilities of the M. S. PUSAN 402 are studied, based on maneuvering indices and the data obtained from her Z test. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The maneuvering indices K' and T' of the M. S. PUSAN 402 are 1. 490, 1.030 at 10$^{\circ}$ Z test and 2.644, 1.153 at 20$^{\circ}$ Z test and 3.382. 1. 027 at 30$^{\circ}$ Z test respectively. The above calculated values K', T' showed that her maneuverabilities are more increased when the rudder is used to large angle than to smaIl angle. 2. As her maneuvering indices K' and T' at 10$^{\circ}$ Z test are higher than the standard maneuvering indices of fishing boats, her turning ability was found to be higher but her obeying ability lower. 3. When the M. S. PUSAN 402 took a turn at her 10$^{\circ}$ test, running distance was about 8.4 times her own length and didn't exceed the standard maneuvering distance, 5 to 11 times ship's own length, therefore she was considered to have good maneuverabilities syntheticaIly.

  • Synthesis and biological activity test are described for the (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol, (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-yl acetate, and (Z)-11-hexadecen-l-al, the sex pheromone of the diamond back moth, Plutella xylostella L.. Lithium acetylide was alkylated with 10-bromodecan-1-ol THP ether to give 11-hexadecyn-l-ol THP ether. 11-Hexadecyn-l-ol THP ether was stereoselectively reduced over Pd/BaSO4to yield (Z)-11-hexadecen-l-ol THP ether, which was in turn deprotected to provide (Z)-11-hexadecen-l-ol. (Z)-11-Hexadecen-l-ol was acetylated and oxidized to afford (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-yl acetate and (Z)-11-hexadecen-l-al, respectively. Biological activity test of the synthetic compounds, (Z)-11-hexadecen-l-ol, (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-yl acetate, and (Z)-11-hexadecen-l-al in the ratio of 0.1 : 5 : 5 was tested in the field using polyethylene capsules as containers. The numbers of moth trapped with pheromone vials were counted.

The color stability and antibacterial of provisional polyethyl methacrylate (PEMA) resin with zirconia nanoparticles (지르코니아 나노입자 첨가된 PEMA (Polyethyl Methacrylate)레진 표면의 색안정성 및 항균평가)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the color stability and antibacterial properties of the surface of polyethyl methacrylate (PEMA) resin with zirconia nanoparticles added. Materials and Methods: The control group was pure PEMA resin, and the experiment group was PEMA resin 15 mm in diameter and 2.5 mm in thickness disk-shaped specimens with 2, 4 and 8 w/v% of zirconia nanoparticles added, which were respectively divided into Group Z2, Group Z4, and Group Z8. After analyzing the surface roughness and color stability of the specimens, their antibacterial properties were evaluated using Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis). The Statistical analysis was performed using when normality was met in the Shapiro-Wilk test, one-way ANOVA was used to test parameters, and Tukey's test was used as a post hoc test. When normality was not met, the Kruskal-Wallis test, a non-parametric test was used (P < 0.05). Results: The surface roughness measurement found that there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The color stability evaluation showed that the Z2, Z4, and Z8 groups were within the color range of natural teeth. The adhesion of P. gingivalis was evaluated to be significantly reduced in Group Z2 compared to the control group (P < 0.05). In the Z2 group, Z4 group, and Z8 group, dead cells bacteria than the control group were observed. Conclusion: In conclusion, PEMA resin with zirconia nanoparticles added was within the range of natural teeth in color and reduced the adhesion of P. gingivalis.

A Study on the Method of Turning Circle Drawing by Z-test (Z시험에 의한 선회권의 작도법에 관한 연구)

  • A navigator on bridge needs to know every kinds of motion characteristics of his vessel at sea. Generally when a vessel is completely built, the shipyard makes turning circle diagrams from the results of turing circle tests made during the sea trials for the reference of the vessel's owner. But referring only the data of a turning circle diagram, an officer on bridge can not figure out his vessel's maneuvering characteristics sufficiently, So nowadays the shipyard often adds Z test to turning circle test for more detail references. In this paper the author made Z and turning circle tests at the rudder angles of 15 and and 35 degress separately and in each of the case made a turrning circle diagram from the results of the turning circle test and the esults numerically calculated from mathematical formula made on the base of the maneuvering indices got from the Z test and compared them each other for the purpose of finding the correlations between them. Followings are concluded from the results. An actual turning circle diagram and a calculated one from the results of the Z test at same rudder angle coincides each other well when the center of the calculated circle is transferred by 1.7B toward the direction of the initial turning perpendicularly to the original course and 0.5L toward the direction in parallel with original course in case of the rudder angle of 35 degrees and 1.2B and 0.3L toward each of the above mentioned directions in case of rudder angle of 15 degrees.

The running distance of a turn at her 10$^{\circ}$Z test was about 9.9 times her own length and she was considered to have a good maneuverabilities synthetically
