Polymorphism of Ghrelin Gene in Twelve Chinese Indigenous Chicken Breeds and Its Relationship with Chicken Growth Traits

  • A 2,656 bp fragment of chicken ghrelin gene was cloned and SNPs were detected by PCR-RFLP and Allele Specific PCR (ASP) in 12 Chinese indigenous chicken breeds and a commercial chicken population. The results showed that there were 23 base variations and an amino acid change ($Gln{\rightarrow}Arg$) in cloned chicken ghrelin gene. Three SNPs were confirmed in 13 populations and associations between this gene and growth traits of Tibetan chicken (TC) and Recessive White chicken (RW) were investigated. The results of haplotype analysis revealed that 26 haplotype genotypes were composed of eight haplotypes. The results of $x^2$ tests indicated that there were significant differences between genotypes or haplotype genotype frequencies in some of the breeds or sexes at 0.05 or 0.01 levels. The results of ANOVA revealed that there were significant differences between genotypes or haplotype genotypes on some growth traits of TC and RW chicken breeds at 0.05 or 0.01 levels. Multiple comparisons showed that there were significant associations between genotype CT at site 71 and some growth traits of two chicken breeds and between genotype AG at site 1,215 and body weight at 16 wk of two chicken breeds, and there was a significant association between haplotype genotype CAA/CAG and body weight and shank girth at 16 wk of two chicken breeds.

소아복막투석의 현황: 다기관 공동연구 결과보고 (Current Status of Children on Peritoneal Dialysis in Korea : A Cross-Sectional Multicenter Study)

  • 목적 : 복막투석요법은 말기 신부전 환아에서 신이식 다음으로 추천되는 신대체 요법으로 현재 말기 신부전 환아들의 장기 생존율 향상으로 복막투석요법 환아 수가 점차 증가하고 있다. 현재 한국 내 복막투석요법 소아에 대한 현황을 파악하고자 이번 연구를 시행하였다. 방법 : 2008년 5월 국내 4개 대학병원을 대상으로 전자우편 설문조사를 시행하였고 현재 3개월 이상 복막투석 중인 103명의 소아를 대상으로 자료를 분석하였다. 결과 : 대상 환아 103명의 남녀비는 1.6:1로 남아가 많았고, 평균 연령은 $11.5{\pm}4.9$세(0-19세), 투석시작 전 말기 신부전의 원인 중 원발성 사구체 질환이 34%로 가장 많았다. 복막투석의 형태는 지속적 외래 복막투석법이 42.7%로 가장 많았고, 주간 전체 Kt/V는 $2.1{\pm}0.7$ (0.3-4.1), 복막평형검사상 저 투과성이 36.8%, 저평균 투과성이 31.6%으로 가장 많은 비율을 차지했다. 체중 표준편차점수(Z-score)는 $-1.00{\pm}1.20$(-4.54-+2.50), 신장 표준편차점수(Z-score)는 $-1.55{\pm}1.65$(-9.42-+1.87)였고, 성장호르몬은 24.3%에서 투여 중이었다. 38.8%의 환아에서 이완기 혹은 수축기 혈압 95 백분위수 이상의 고혈압을 보였고, 64.0%의 환아가 항고혈압제 투여 중이었다. 평균 혈청 혈색소는 $10.5{\pm}1.4$ g/dL, 평균 혈청 칼슘은 $9.7{\pm}0.7$ mg/dL, 평균 혈청 인은 $5.4{\pm}1.4$ mg/dL, 평균 부갑상선 호르몬은 $324.2{\pm}342.8$ pg/mL였다. 결론 : 국내 복막투석요법 소아에서 원발성 사구체 질환이 소아 말기 신부전의 가장 흔한 원인이고, 지속적 외래 복막투석법이 가장 흔히 사용되는 복막투석 형태이며, 복막평형검사상 저 투과성과 저평균 투과성이 가장 많았다. 대부분의 환아가 적절한 신장과 체중을 유지하고 있었으나 저신장 환아의 경우 성장 호르몬 치료가 제대로 이루어지지 않고 있었고 여전히 많은 환아에서 빈혈과 고혈압이 관찰되었다. 혈청 칼슘과 인은 비교적 정상범위를 유지하고 있으나 많은 환아가 이차성 부갑상선 기능 항진증을 보였다.

통영 수월숲의 인문학적 특성 및 생태적 특성을 고려한 관리방안 (Management Plan for Humanistic and Ecological Characteristics of Suweol Village Forest in Tongyoung)

  • 본 연구는 통영 수월숲의 인문학적 특성과 자연생태적 특성을 바탕으로 효율적인 보존 관리방안을 제안하기 위해 진행하였다. 김해김씨 서암파 문중 소유인 대상지는 약 1,000년 전 태풍에 대비하여 농작물을 보호하고자 조성한 숲으로 1960년까지 동신제를 지내는 등 양호하게 보호 관리되어 왔었다. 방풍림의 면적은 $12,392.69m^2$로 느티나무, 팽나무, 푸조나무 등 낙엽활엽수 노거수가 우점종이었으며 주변은 경작지(52.1%), 도시화지역(26.3%), 산림지역(16.6%)으로 둘러싸여 있었다. 우점종 및 이용압을 고려하여 군집을 분류한 결과, 이용압이 낮은 푸조나무군락(I), 굴피나무-소사나무-느티나무군락(II), 이용압이 높은 느티나무군락(III), 느티나무-푸조나무군락(IV), 이용에 의해 하층이 훼손된 느티나무군락(V)으로 구분되었다. 방풍림의 보존상태는 양호하나 과거 잘못된 마을숲 복원 사업, 내부를 관통하는 산책로, 교육장 설치 등으로 인해 훼손의 우려가 있었다. 따라서 수월숲 고유의 가치를 복원하기 위해서는 개발에 의한 숲 변화, 이용압에 의한 훼손, 관리부재로 인한 쇠퇴현상을 개선해야 할 것이다. 이용압에 의한 훼손을 방지하기 위해서는 과도한 휴게시설 철거와 정적이고 소극적인 이용을 유도해야 하고, 개발에 의한 숲 변화를 막기 위해서는 우회로를 설정한 후 관통도로를 폐쇄하는 것이, 관리부재로 인한 쇠퇴현상 개선을 위해서는 현명한 이용을 전제로 차대목 육성과 하층식생 복원이 필요하였다. 차대목은 숲내 우점종인 느티나무, 팽나무, 푸조나무, 이팝나무 등을 모수로 실생묘를 육성 도입하여 식생 및 원형경관을 회복해야 할 것이다. 하층식생 훼손지역 복원을 위해 훼손지와 양호한 식생군락을 비교한 결과 아교목층은 10.8개체, 관목층은 79.7개체 차이가 나므로 부족분을 보완식재해야 할 것이다.

스트레인 게이지법을 이용한 복합레진과 컴포머의 중합수축 평가에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE EVALUATION OF POLYMERIZATION SHRINKAGE OF COMPOSITE AND COMPOMER USING STRAIN GAUGE METHOD)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 다양한 중합과정에 따른 복합레진과 컴포머의 수축 양상을 스트레인 게이지법(strain gauge method)을 이용하여 평가해보고자 하는 것이었다. 광중합기는 기존의 할로겐 시스템인 XL 3000(3M, USA)과 최근 소개된 plasma arc curing 시스템인 Flipo(LOKKI, France)를 사용하였고, 충전 재료는 복합레진인 Z-100(3M, USA)과 컴포머인 Dyract AP(Dentsply, Germany)를 사용하였다. 주형과 치아 와동 내에 충전된 실험재료의 중합수축을 각각 측정하였으며, 만능시험기를 이용하여 압축강도를 측정하였다. 중합수축 측정 결과 모두 중합초기에는 일시적인 재료의 팽창을 나타냈고, 그 후 약 1분간은 수축량이 급격히 증가하다가 증가의 폭이 점차 감소하는 양상을 보였다. 전반적으로 컴포머를 사용한 군에 비해 복합레진을 사용한 군에서 중합수축이 크게 나타났으며 plasma arc curing 시스템을 사용한 군에 비해 기존의 광조사 시스템 군에서 더 큰 중합수축을 보였다. 압축 강도의 측정결과는 컴포머 군에 비해 복합레진 군에서 크게 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, plasma arc curing unit와 컴포머의 사용은 시술시간의 단축과 항우식 효과를 감안한다면 소아치과 영역에서의 사용이 긍정적으로 고려될 수 있다고 생각된다.

Effects of Different Products and Levels of Selenium on Growth, Nutrient Digestibility and Selenium Retention of Growing-finishing Pigs

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of different selenium (Se) products (inorganic, organic A, organic B) added at two supplemental dietary Se levels (0.1 and 0.3 mg/kg) on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and Se retention in growing-finishing pigs. A $3{\times}2$ factorial arrangement of treatments was used in a RCB design, with a non-Se-fortified basal diet serving as the negative control. A total of 56 crossbred pigs (28 male and 28 female pigs) initially weighing an average $28.45{\pm}0.53kg$ BW were allotted to each treatment with four pigs per pen on the basis of sex and weight. Two pigs per pen were selected and bled from the anterior vena cava at 3- weekly intervals to analyze Se concentration. In the growing phase (0-6 weeks), increased ADFI was observed when pigs were fed organic Se compared to those fed the control diet or inorganic Se treatment (p<0.05). Pigs fed inorganic Se had a great ADFI than pigs fed organic Se (p<0.05) in the late finishing phase (7-12 weeks), although there were no differences in whole period ADFI between organic or inorganic Se products. During 12 weeks of the whole experimental period, serum Se concentration increased linearly when dietary Se level increased regardless of Se products (p<0.05). Both dietary Se source (p<0.05) and Se level (p<0.01) influenced the Se concentration of various pig tissues at end of this experiment and Se content was the highest in the kidney. For the determination of nutrient digestibility, a metabolic trial was conducted in 3 replicates in randomized complete block (RCB) design. A total of 21 barrows ($50.21{\pm}0.62kg$ of average BW) were used in the metabolic study. Selenium supplementation had no effect on nutrient digestibility except for crude protein. Crude protein digestibility increased with dietary supplementation of organic Se (A) compared with other forms of Se products or control diet (p<0.05). Consequently, this experiment indicated that dietary Se products and levels had no effect on growth performance of pigs. Se concentration in tissues and serum was increased in proportion to dietary Se level, especially when organic Se was provided. Although pigs were fed organic forms of Se, bioavailability of organic forms varied among products, consequently bioactivity of organic products to the animals should be evaluated before practical application in animal feed.

장도의 식생 (Vegetation of Jangdo Island)

  • 다도해해상국립공원의 서단(西端)에 위치하는 장도(면적 $1.54km^2$)는 고층습원의 발달과 국가적 생물다양성 중점지역(hotspot)으로 주목받고 있는 생태지역(ecoregion)이다. 본 연구는 장도에 발달하고 있는 식물군락의 다양성을 규명하고, 보전생태학적 식생관리전략을 제안하고자 진행되었다. 장도 식생은 10개 상관형(physiognomic types)에 총 22개 단위식생(syntaxa: 3개 군집, 15개 군락, 4개 하위군락)으로 구분되었다. 현존 습지식생(actual wetland vegetation)은 갈대군강(Phragmitetea)과 벼군강(Orizetea)에 귀속되는 비교적 낮은 자연도(naturalness)의 식물군락들로 이루어져 있었으며, 고층습원이 아닌 것으로 밝혀졌다. 동백나무군강(Camellietea japonicae)의 난온대 상록활엽수림 가운데 구실잣밤나무-가는쇠고사리군집은 장도가 새로운 최북단 분포지(northernmost distribution site)인 것으로 확인되었다. 지역 및 국가 특산식생형(regional and nation-wide endemic vegetation type)으로 소사나무-흑산비비추군락을 특기하였으며, 토지적 지역식생형(regional edaphic vegetation type)으로 해안 절벽에서 섬향나무-밀사초군락이 기재되었다. 장도는 험준한 섬 지형에도 불구하고 집약적인 인간간섭(방목, 벌채, 산불, 개간 등)이 대부분의 식생형에서 종조성으로부터 밝혀졌다. 그러나 장도는 난온대 속에서의 높은 무상일수와 연평균 최대 안개 일수를 가지고 있는 지역생물기후 특성, 차별침식에 의하여 형성된 함몰 분지에서의 대수층 발달과 같은 토지적 수리수문체계를 반영하는 독특한 식생자원이 보존되어 있는 것으로 평가되었다. 특히 장도습지는 보전생태학적 관점에서 그 존재의 가치가 지대한 것으로 평가되었다. 하지만 장도습지는 습지 지표면의 근본적인 수리수문 체계의 변질을 야기하는 인간간섭에 노출되어 있음으로써 이에 대한 즉각적인 습지생태계관리 매뉴얼 구축이 요구되었다.

Effects of Dietary Selenium Supplementation on Growth Performance, Selenium Retention in Tissues and Nutrient Digestibility in Growing-finishing Pigs

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of selenium (Se) sources and levels on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and Se retention in growing-finishing pigs. A total of 56 crossbred pigs ([$Landrace{\times}Yorkshire$]${\times}$Large White) with average $28.5{\pm}0.2kg$ BW were allotted to 7 treatments on the basis of sex and weight in two replicates and four pigs per pen. A $2{\times}3$ factorial arrangement of treatments was used in a randomized complete block (RCB) design. Two sources of Se (selenite Se or Se-enriched yeast) were added at 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 mg/kg to each treatment diet. A basal diet without Se supplementation was the seventh treatment group. Three pigs per treatment were randomly selected and samples of loin, liver, pancreas and a kidney were collected, frozen and later analyzed for Se. The digestibility trial was conducted to evaluate the apparent absorption and retention of Se and availability of other nutrients. Growth performance was not affected by dietary sources and levels of Se. No growth retardation was observed in the 0.5 mg/kg dietary Se treatment group regardless of Se sources. The Se concentration of serum in Se supplemented groups was increased compared with the control group (p<0.01). During the growing and finishing phase, Se in serum was clearly increased when organic Se was provided (p<0.01). Interaction of Se source ${\times}$ Se level was observed in Se concentration of loin, liver and pancreas of the pigs at the end of experiment. Selenium retention in the liver, kidney, pancreas and loin of pigs was increased as dietary Se level increased and was higher when pigs were fed organic Se resulting in an interaction response (p<0.01). Nutrient digestibilities were not affected by dietary Se sources or levels. No dietary Se source ${\times}$ Se level interaction was observed in nutrient digestibility. The results from this experiment indicated that dietary Se sources and levels affected the distribution of Se in the body of growing-finishing pigs. Organic source of Se, such as Se-enriched yeast resulted in higher serum and tissue Se concentration compared to inorganic form, while no beneficial effects on nutrient digestibility were observed from dietary Se supplementation in growing-finishing pigs.

Enhancement of nuclear radiation shielding and mechanical properties of YBiBO3 glasses using La2O3

  • In this study, nuclear radiation shielding and rigidity parameters of Y (0.1-x)B0.6Bi1.8O3La2x glassy system were investigated in order to determine it's suitability for use as nuclear radiation shielding materials. Therefore, a group of bismuth borate glass samples with La2O3 additive were synthesized using the technique of melt quenching. According to the results, the increase of the La2O3 additive increases the density of the glass samples and the mass attenuation coefficient (μm) values, whereas the half-value layer (HVL) and mean free path (MFP) values decrease. The effective atomic number (Zeff) is also enhanced with an increment of both mass removal cross section for neutron (ΣR) and absorption neutron scattering cross section (σabs). In addition to the other parameters, rigidity parameter values were theoretically examined. The increase of La2O3 causes some other important magnitudes to increase. These are the average crosslink density, the number of bonds per unit volume, as well as the stretching force constant values of these glass samples. These results are in concordance with the increase of elastic moduli in terms of the Makishima-Mackenzie model. This model showed an increase in the rigidity of the glass samples as a function of La2O3.

Effect of Lubricant with Nanodiamond Particles in Sliding Friction

  • This paper presents the experimental effects of lubricant with nanodiamond particles in sliding friction. In order to improve the performance of lubricants many additives are used, such as MoS2, cadmium chloride, indium, sulfides, and phosphides. These additives are harmful to human health and to the environment, so alternatives are necessary. One such alternative is nanodiamond powder, which has a large surface area. In order to investigate the effect of nanodiamonds in lubricants under sliding friction, they are dispersed in the lubricant at a variety of concentrations (0 wt%, 0.1 wt%, 0.3 wt%, 0.5 wt%, and 1 wt%) using the matrix synthesis method. Friction and wear tests are performed according to the ASTM G99 method using a pin-on-disc tester at room temperature. The specimens used in this experiment are AISI 52100 ball bearings and AISI 1020 steel discs. During the test, lubricant mixed with nanodiamond is supplied constantly to keep the two bodies separated by a lubricant film. To maintain boundary lubrication, the speed is set to 0.18 m/s and a load of 294 N is applied to the disc through the pin. Results are recorded by using workbench software over the test duration of 10 minutes. Experimental results show that when the concentration of nanodiamond increases, the coefficient of friction decreases. However, above a nanodiamond concentration of 0.5 wt%, both the coefficient of friction and wear volume increase. From this experiment, the optimum concentration of nanodiamond showing a minimum coefficient of friction of 0.09 and minimum wear volume of 0.82 nm2 was 0.5 wt%.

금형공구강의 이온질화에 미치는 이전열처리 조건의 영향 (The Effect of Pre-Heat Treatment Parameters on the Ion Nitriding of Tool Steel)

  • The effects of pre-heat treatment(Q/T) on microstructure and hardness of STD11 and STD61 tool steel nitrided by micro-pulse plasma were investigated. The quenching temperature for obtaining matrix hardness of STD11 and STD61 steel on range of HRC 50 to HRC 60 desired for machine parts is about $1070^{\circ}C$ and $1020^{\circ}C$ respectively. The hardness of STD11 and STD61 quenched at the temperature was HRC 63 and HRC 56 respectively. The nitrided case depth of STD11 and STD61 nitrided at $550^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours was independent of pre-heat treatment condition and the depth was approximately $100{\mu}m$. However, hardness and compactness of nitrided layer on Q/T treated specimen were higher than the annealed specimen. The case depth increased linearly with the increase of nitriding temperature, however, the hardness of nitrided layer decreased with the increase of temperature. Phase mixture of ${\gamma}-Fe_4N$ and ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}N$ was detected by XRD analysis in the nitrided layer formed at the optimum nitriding condition. The optimum nitriding temperature was approximately $490^{\circ}C$ which was $10^{\circ}C$ lower than the tempering temperature for preventing softening behavior of STD11 and STD61 matrix during nitriding process and the surface hardness of nitrided layer obtained by optimum pre-heat treatment condition was about Hv1400.
