  • Oil adsorption during hair or body washing is responsible for the hair conditioning. In this study, we established a method to extract oil from a substrate, and to determine amount of adsorbed oil upon substrate using a conventional absorption spectroscopy. We controlled the mole fraction of a surfactant in a mixture of anionic and amphoteric surfactants because that it induces the coacervate that regulates amount of adsorbed oil through the alteration of oil viscosity. Based on this, we established the optimized condition for adsorption and extraction for oil. UV absorbance were employed to estimate the amount of adsorbed oil using optical absorbance after extraction via adsorption. The estimation was confirmed by comparing with a mass analysis in HPLC and an adhesive energy in AFM. It has been proved that this method can be applied to all cases of oil adsorption from the results with various cationic polymers and a complex system of the polymers which regulate the oil adsorption.

  • This study aimed to investigate the relationship between meal regularity (i.e. breakfast intake and meal-times), and the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) among generally healthy Korean single-person household adults (≤60 years, n=594) based on the Seventh Korean National Health Examination and Nutrition Survey (KNHANES) (2016~2018). Among men (n=325), the breakfast intake frequency was not significantly associated with the pervalence of MetS. However, men consuming a regular meal at least once a day showed a lower prevalence of MetS compared to those whose meals were irregular. These patterns remained after adjusting for age, smoking and drinking habits, individual income, education level, exercise, and total calorie intake. An association between meal regularity and MetS risk was observed in post-menopausal women (n=84), but not in pre-menopausal women (n=185). More specifically post-menopausal women with irregular breakfast eating habits or eating no breakfast at all showed a significantly higher risk of MetS than those eating breakfast regularly after the adjustment. The analysis revealed an odds ratio (OR) of 8.46, confidence intervals (CIs): 1.149~62.199, P<0.05 in irregular breakfast eaters, and an OR of 13.377, CIs: 1.665~107.511, P<0.05, in those who ate no breakfast. Furthermore, post-menopausal women who had irregular meals daily showed a higher risk of MetS than those consuming one or more regular meals/day after the adjustment (OR: 16.888, CIs: 1.258~226.655, P<0.05). In conclusion, the results from this study may be used for formulating optimal dietary guidelines for the prevention and the management of MetS in adults in single-person households.

  • This study analyzed the distribution of forest income and other variable sources of rural household income and considered their importance for the reduction of income inequality and poverty. We employed Gini decomposition to measure the contribution of forest income and other sources of income to income equality and assess whether they were inequality-increasing or inequality-decreasing in the 14 villages. The forest income Gini correlation with total income was very high, $R_k=0.6960$, and the forest income share of total rural household income was 35% ($S_k=0.3570$). If the income earned from forest activities was removed, the Gini index would increase by 10.3%. Thus, if people could not access forest resources because of vast deforestation, perhaps from the limitations of government-managed forestry, unplanned clearing of forest land for agriculture or the granting of ELCs, there would be an increase in income inequality and poverty among rural households. The findings suggest that policy makers should look beyond agriculture for rural development, as forest resources provide meaningful subsistence income and perhaps contribute to both preventing and reducing poverty and inequality in rural communities. The study found that non-farm activities were inequality-increasing sources of income. The share of non-farm income to the total rural household income was $S_k=0.1290$ and the Gini index of non-farm income was very high, $G_k=0.8780$, compared with forest and farm income. This disagrees with other studies which have reported that non-farm income was inequality-decreasing for the rural poor.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing osteoporosis awareness depending on the family structure in postmenopausal women aged over 50 years with osteoporosis. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional study that used secondary data. Postmenopausal women with osteoporosis aged over 50 years (n= 567) from the National Health Nutrition Survey of the 5th (2010, 2011) were selected for analysis. Data were analyzed by complex sampling design multiple regression analysis. Results: Among the patients with osteoporosis, the osteoporosis awareness was very low at 29.0%, and 32.5% for single households and 28.1% for household with spouses. There were significant differences in the factors influencing osteoporosis awareness depending on the family structure. For single household, factors that influenced osteoporosis awareness included sleeping for more than 9 hours (OR, 4.32), anxiety and depression (OR, 3.21), a history of fracture (OR, 0.29), and a family history of osteoporosis (OR, 0.29). In the household with a spouse, osteoporosis awareness was highest in women in their 60 seconds (OR, 3.45), unhealthy group (OR, 2.27), and underweight group (OR, 5.31). Other factors that influenced osteoporosis awareness included pain/discomfort (OR, 2.31), smoking (OR, 7.71), and a history of fracture (OR, 0.36). Conclusion: It is necessary to improve osteoporosis awareness for effective osteoporosis management through osteoporosis screening and counseling, and continuous osteoporosis education programs.

  • Background: Food insecurity may contribute to mental health indicators such as stress, anxiety, or depression. We investigated whether food insecurity was associated with mental health indicators and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in a representative sample of the Korean population. Methods: This study enrolled 12,987 adults without a history of medically serious disease from the 2012, 2013, and 2015 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Household food security status was categorized as "food security," "mild food insecurity," and "moderate/severe food insecurity." The association between mental health and HRQoL was evaluated using a multivariate logistic regression model with food security as the reference group. Results: The adjusted odds ratio of adverse mental health or low HRQoL increased significantly in mild or moderate/severe food insecurity compared to food security. In the moderate/severe food insecurity group, it was 1.98% (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.31-2.99) higher for perceived stress, 3.58% (95% CI, 2.44-5.26) higher for depression symptoms, 4.16% (95% CI, 2.68-6.45) higher for suicidal ideation, and 2.81% (95% CI, 1.91-4.15) higher for quality of life. Conclusion: Food insecurity was strongly associated with negative mental health status and poor HRQoL. There is a need for a dietary support program that provides psychosocial support to those experiencing food insecurity.

  • Household service robots should be able to provide their users with a variety of temporal reasoning services. In this paper, we propose an effective way of developing such temporal reasoning services using a domain-independent AI planner. Developing temporal reasoning services with a domain-independent AI planner, we have to address both the knowledge engineering problem of how to represent various real-world temporal constraints in a planning domain definition language, and the system design problem of how to realize the interface between the AI planner and the service consumer. In this paper, we introduce an example scenario and a set of typical temporal constraints for a household service robot, and then present how to represent them in the standard planning domain definition language. We also explain how to implement a service agent based on an AI planner in order to develop and provide new services efficiently.

  • This study analysed the characteristics of residential mobility according to the household's life-cycle to observe the housing filtering process in Busan. The questionary subjects were adult 40 and over who inhabited in Busan and surveyed residential career about residential mobility. The analysis result of statistical data and result of questionary reveals similar result every articles, the summaries are as follows : Examining housing where the respondent live presently, apartment dominate absolutely high ratio as housing type and owner-occupation as housing tenure type, and housing size is about 30 pyeong, dwelling period is 6 years to 10 years. Saving and loan hold a large majority to make housing capital, that means, they apply housing finance to getting own housing despite it is impossible with present household's income to have owner-occupation of desired housing. This is different custom ours from foreign's that rent a house. However, as aspect of residential satisfaction, most household recognised that quality is improved, because residential mobility expanded housing size and changed tenure type and showed fairly high satisfaction with their present resident.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe the family life and relationships of national family center users in 2023. A sample of 1,086 adults was recruited from 48 family centers across South Korea. Participants, both online and offline, reported on various aspects of family life, including satisfaction, gender equality, work-home-life balance, family leisure, and internet usage for family and household purposes. Additionally, family relationships were explored in terms of dynamics with a spouse, children, and adult children. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests. In the family life domain, center users reported a high level of satisfaction, with women exhibiting greater awareness of gender equality and higher engagement in household chores than men. Furthermore, although a moderate balance among work, home, and life was reported, time emerged as a significant challenge for family leisure. Regarding technology, center users frequently utilized the internet for family communication, leisure, shopping, and household management. In the family relationships domain, men were more satisfied with spousal relationships than women. Center users reported high satisfaction with parent-child relationships. Parents of school-aged children perceived economic burdens, while those with adult children frequently provided psychological and instrumental support. These findings suggest the need for program modification and the development of new initiatives within national family centers to better support the diverse needs of families in terms of life satisfaction and relationship dynamics.

  • This study used data from the 8th main survey of the National Old Age Security Panel to find out the effect of grandparents' capital that provides family care for grandchildren on life satisfaction. As a result of the study, the influence of capital of the study subjects on life satisfaction was 20.1%. Among the grandparents' capital, household gross income and health status had a significant positive (+) effect on life satisfaction. In other words, the higher the household gross income of grandparents who provide family care to grandchildren and the better the health status, the higher life satisfaction. On the other hand, caring time was found to have a negative (-) effect on life satisfaction, which means that the longer the time to care for grandchildren, the lower the life satisfaction of grandparents. These results suggest factors influencing grandparents' life satisfaction in these days when the likelihood of grandparents caring for grandchildren increases, and it was found that household gross income, health status, and caring time are major variables. Based on this, a plan was suggested to increase the life satisfaction of grandparents caring for grandchildren.
