Research on Sex Education of Young Children's Mothers (유아 어머니의 자녀 성교육 실천정도)

  • Purpose: The present study is a descriptive research on the content of sex education conducted at home by the mothers of young children who are attending five kindergartens located in Busan, Korea. This study aims to provide basic materials for systematic sex education at home and in the school. Method: Based on the literature review and prior researches, the writer made a questionnaire consisting of 30 items regarding necessities, contents and difficulties of sex education. The 307 questionnaires were collected out of 480 which were distributed by the kindergarten teachers. Data was analysed with frequency and percentage using the SPSS Win 10.0 Program. The main subjects of the study were mothers in their thirties, who understood the necessity of sex education. However, they were lack of enough sexual knowledge in accordance with the transforming sexual culture and lack of suitable materials. They did not plan to educate their children according to their developmental stages, but just taught them verbally rather than using common materials for the situation. Result Regarding the origin of life that children often asks, mothers did not give a scientific and correct response to satisfy their curiosity about sex, saying that a baby was created after marrying a loved one. While more mothers than the prior research responded correctly to the queries of the path of delivery, some mothers did not. It may cause some children to suppress the questions, which may result a distorted sexual knowledge. That is because mothers understood that sex education was to deliver sexual knowledge, but not realized that sex education was a human education carried out throughout life. Mothers fell short of sexual knowledge, capability, and confidence, comparing with swift social changes and children's capacity. As a result, it is necessary to inspire sexual awareness into mothers and educate them through training. It is also needed to secure a training program similar to a teacher training program. Conclusion: It is essential to develop and to provide evaluation tools as well as proper materials in accordance with the children's developmental stage, so that organic management system among home, education institute and society must lead sex education Further, it is necessary to provide teaching methods and materials to mothers regularly, so that the school and home may conduct sex education together to cope with difficulties.

A Survey of the Educational Demand for the Pediatric Nursing Curriculum in RN-BSN Students (RN-BSN과정 학생들의 아동간호학 교육내용에 대한 교육 요구도 조사)

  • Considering the rapid change of modern nursing knowledge, it is necessary to make changes in the curriculum of nursing education periodically according to the patient-nursing needs and the students' needs. This means that nursing education has to provide opportunities for the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Also, as the students of the RN-BSN program being all registered nurses, the education program for them is planned differently from the general undergraduate program. This study was conducted to establish the scope of educational contents of pediatric nursing in RN-BSN program. The contents of the pediatric nursing curriculum and its necessity was identified and reviewed. From June 5 to June 30 2000, data were collected from 309 RN-BSN students in 5 nursing schools. The questionnaire used for this study was developed by their researchers and the Korean Nursing Association and consisted of items according to the curriculum contents of pediatric nursing. The data were analyzed through frequency and percentages and was analyzed using SPSSWIN 10.0 programs. The results were as follows: 1.In the section surveying on the credits of pediatric theory and clinical practice, 3 out of 5 schools had 2 credits in theory (60.0%), and 2 credits for clinical practice in 2 schools, and 2 credits were given to the elective practice in 2 other schools. 2. In analyzing the degree of demand for lecture and clinical practice, 52.1% of students preferred lectures to be given by professors and 53.7% preferred their level of undergraduate knowledge updated and finally most of the students (81.9%) didn't want to do the clinical practice. 3.The students weighted the importance of current curriculum contents as follows : sex education of adolescence(60.8%), high-risk infant(59.5%), sex education of school age children(59.2%), the handicapped children (55.7%), health assessment(52.4%), children with pneumonia(51.5%), children with asthma (47.1%), children with burns(41.1%). In conclusion, there is a need for research to measure the degree of education satisfaction and needs in RN-BSN students and to improve the curriculum contents in pediatric nursing.

Present Status, Difficulties and Support Needs of Multi-cultural Families Raising Children under 3 Years Old Enrolled at Child Care and Education Centers (어린이집 재원 다문화 가정 영아의 양육 현황과 어려움 및 지원요구)

  • Objective: This study intended to analyze parenting characteristics, difficulties and support needs of multi-cultural families that had children under 3 years old, in order to develop their supporting resources. Methods: This study performed semi-structured interviews with 7 mothers from multi-cultural families that had their young children enrolled at child care and education centers in Gyeonggi Do. The interview data transcribed were analyzed using the successive contents analysis, and led to 4 themes and 12 sub-themes. Results: First, the mothers from multi-cultural families were married without understanding the Korean language and culture. Second, the multi-cultural mothers didn't properly respond to their children's needs in interaction and language aspects. As a result, the multi-cultural support centers and child care and education centers gave help to them. Third, in the view of the difficulties facing mothers, parenting problems caused by the lack of information concerning child education, the biased burden of parenting, and the different parenting values of Korean families were all expressed by the mothers. Fourth, regarding support needs, providing individual professional support for children and child-raising support for mothers, customized language and employment support for mothers and parenting education for fathers and family education on multi-culturalism are needed. Conclusion/Implications: Suggestions for decreasing the difficulties facing multi-cultural families that had children under 3 years old were discussed.

A Network Analysis of Multicultural Education Contents according to Transitions of National Kindergarten Curriculum: 2009 Educational Activities and Materials Guidebooks for Kindergarten and the Nuri Curriculum Teacher Guidebooks for the Age of 3-5 (교육과정 변화에 따른 유아다문화교육 내용의 연결망 비교 분석: 2009 유치원 교육활동 지도서와 3-5세 누리과정 교사용 지도서를 중심으로)

  • This study's aim was to find a patterns of network dynamics focused on multicultural education contents within the teacher's guide books which are based on national kindergarten curriculum. It was analysed that the 43 guidebooks(2009 Educational activities and materials guidebooks for kindergarten, 11 and the Nuri curriculum teacher guidebooks for the age of 3-5, 32) were analysed using the UCINET 6 program with multicultural education contents frameworks. The findings were as follows: First, multicultural contents' density is connected to life theme of the Nuri curriculum was higher than the 2009 kindergarten curriculum. And life theme with high connectivity was 'I and my family' in the 2009 kindergarten curriculum and 'animals, plants and nature'(3 years old), 'kindergarten and friends' & 'I and my family'(4-5 years old) in the Nuri curriculum. Second, the highest connection content was 'having interests in culture' & 'knowing similarities and differences' in the 2009 kindergarten curriculum, and 'having interests in culture' & 'promoting a sense of community' in the Nuri curriculum. Finally, multicultural education for young children according to the national educational curriculum transition was changed from 'identity' to 'interaction and cooperation'. It means that the Nuri curriculum is more focused on international knowledges and competencies as a world citizen. It suggests the directions for multicultural education for young children in the future.

Mother's Perception on the Effect of Using Smart Devices by Young Childen (스마트기기 이용이 유아에게 미치는 영향에 대한 어머니의 인식)

  • The aim of this study was to provide basic contents which are based on the appropriate understanding, use, and information of smart devices for young children. The researcher surveyed mothers regarding the effects of their children's development as a result of using smart devices. A survey of 134 mothers with three to five-year-old children currently attending daycare centers or kindergartens was carried out. By using SPSS 18.0, the collected data of survey results was implemented via t-test and F verification. Study findings are as follows: First, the result of the survey analysis indicated that most mothers perceived that using smart devices did not heavily influence their child's development. Second, the mothers' perception was varied depending on whether it was their child's the first time using smart devices, the mother's education level, and on the mother's employment situation. However, there was no difference of perception in regards to gender. The results of this study suggest the necessity of parental intervention and prevention of side effect of children 's smart device use and parent education program.

A survey on the evaluation of curriculum and young children by kindergarten teachers (유치원 교사의 교육과정 평가와 유아 평가에 대한 실태 및 개선방안에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to consider the evaluations of curriculum and young children by kindergarten teachers. The investigation subjects for questionnaire were 637 (the directors, vice-directors, the head teachers, and teachers) who were selected by proportional stratified sampling method for population and the subjects for interview were 11 teachers out of previous subjects who have worked at Jeolla-Do. The questionnaire was based on preceding studies and the propriety of contents was validated. The followings are results of this study. First, according to the purpose of curriculum, more than half of kindergarten teachers answered that they do perform evaluation to validate the young children's developmental process and there were statistically no significant differences by variables of kindergarten teachers. This study was to see whether they perform the evaluation results of curriculum or not, they relatively perform and there were statistically differences by kindergarten teacher's working location, establishment type, level of education and age. This study was to see whether they reflect the evaluation results of curriculum, and it was revealed as they relatively reflect. Also, there were statistically significant differences by kindergarten teacher's working location. And, kindergarten teachers requested the appropriate evaluation curriculum that also requires the adequate education for teachers and organized supporting system as a implication plan. Second, as of material types for children's portfolio evaluation, teachers collect activity products at most, then activity picture, observation, standardized test, teacher's journal, recording or tape-recording, post-interview and data that were collected at home. And, kindergarten teachers requested the appropriate evaluation method and the supply of human resources as a implication plan for young children's evaluation.

  • There are various remedies that are proposed from aspects of education and social welfare for social integration of multi-cultural families which is different from ethnic and cultural background. This study proposed educational process model for information literacy education of multi-cultural children. The proposed model is consedered to reduce digital divide by using five factor from the earlier information literacy. At last, this study explained characteristics, objective, contents, teaching-learning method and estimating method of proposed model.

The Study of the System Development on the Safe Environment of Children's Smartphone Use and Contents Recommendations (유아들의 안전한 스마트폰 사용 환경 및 콘텐츠 추천 시스템 개발)

  • This study has developed a preventive launcher from smartphone addiction for the digital generation and the contents recommendation based on machine learning which used multiple and collective intelligence. This could provide convenient digital nurturing experience for the parents who fear their children's over use of digital devices and also suggest individually adaptive digital learning methods that enhance the learning efficiency and pleasurable and safe learning environment for the children. Suggested application is a kind of gamification launcher that protects children from harmful contents and from smartphone addiction with time limit settings. For parents who find difficulty choosing from various kinds of contents and applications for education, this suggested system could provide a learning analytic report based on big data after collecting and analyzing the data of their children's learning and activities and recommend contents necessary for their kids using recommended algorithm by collective intelligence.

Experience and education needs on medication and emergency situations for young children of child caregivers (보육교사의 영유아 대상 투약과 응급상황 경험 및 교육 요구)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate experience and education needs on medication and emergency situations for young children of child caregivers. The data from 190 caregivers were collected using open-ended questionnaires composed of four items and analysed by content analysis. The categories derived for each theme were as follows: experience of medication of six categories(no referral for medication, young children refused medication, inaccurate referral, a variety of medication, sick children but not having medication), education need of four categories(for child caregivers, for parents, for children, guideline required), experience of emergency situation of six categories(skin damage or bleeding, decreased consciousness due to seizures, high fever persisted, asphyxiation due to foreign body, dislocation or fracture, emergency not knowing how to cope), education need of emergency situation of five categories(contents, methods, cycle, necessity, institutionalization). It is required to improve more practically the education contents and methods related to medication and emergency situation of child caregivers.

Perception of Young Children Happiness (유아 행복에 대한 인식)

  • The purpose for this study is to research the perception of happiness among the kindergarten young children. The subjects were kindergarten young children of 6, 7 years old in Kwangju. The finding of this study were as follows : 1. kindergarten young children of 6, 7 years old considered that the most important elements of happiness to have a positive mind, to be loved. And kindergarten young children of 7 years old perceived spend time with family as happiness. 2. 'the most moment when you feel happy" perceived that the most important elements of happiness were to be loved, play with children and to spend time with children. 3. 'To be happy' perceived that the most important elements of happiness were the relationship of parents and friends. Especially, seven years old children perceived to be able to do self-development. Therefore, I suggested it is necessary to study a program of young children's happiness, a program of parent's participation for young children's happiness in kindergarten, and a program of young children' career education.
