Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors related to nutrients intakes among young children aged 1-5 years and their mothers. Methods: The study subjects were 621 young children and their mothers from the data of 2nd year (2014) and 3rd year (2015) of the 6th National Health and Nutrition Survey. To find a difference of Recommended Nutrient Intake in young children and their mothers, independent t-test, ANOVA, and Duncan test as a post-hoc analysis were used. For the factors influencing young children Recommended Nutrient Intakes, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used. Results: The mean score of Recommended Nutrient Intakes was $6.92{\pm}2.17$ in young children and $4.74{\pm}2.06$ in mothers. The Recommended Nutrient Intakes of young children was increased according to gender (boy) (p=0.001), increasing young children age ($p{\leq}0.001$), young children breakfast frequency (p<0.001), mothers age (p<0.001), education level (p=0.020) and mothers lunch frequency (p=0.002) and family income (p=0.007). The Recommended Nutrient Intakes of mothers was increased according to their age (p=0.005), family income (p=0.020) and having breakfast (p=0.038). The factor that influenced young children Recommended Nutrient Intakes was their mothers Recommended Nutrient Intakes (${\beta}=0.21$, p<0.001). Conclusions: Given the results, it is necessary to establish a plan or nutrition education for young children's menu differently depending on their age and gender. Since mothers' Recommended Nutrient Intakes influence their young children's Recommended Nutrient Intakes, it is necessary to provide mothers' with nutrition education about the importance of mothers' nutrition management and right nutrient intakes, and to make customized nutrition education guidelines in consideration of mothers' characteristics.
The purpose of this study was to investigate developmental of young children's musical abilityes and musical conservation concepts. Two kinds of test were administered to 117 children aged 5-to 7-year-old. The musical ability test consisted of 30 tape-recorded questions regarding 5 musical ability domains, while the musical conservation test consisted of 17 questions regarding 4 musical conservation concept domains. The major findings of the study were as follows: 1)there was a significant difference in young children's musical abilities according to their sex and age. Girls developed their musical abilities better than boys did. Older children noticeable improved their musical abilities, especially, in such three domains as listening musical and rhythmic activities and playing musical instruments. 2)There was a significant difference in young children's musical conservation concepts according to their age, but not according to their sex. Older children improved musical conservation concepts specifically, in rhythm ,number of notes and duration conservation concepts. 3) the results of stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that the most influence in variable on the musical conservation concepts was musical ability, then followed by children's age and sex. Some suggestions for future research and for the ways to increase musical abilities were discussed.

It is necessary that children's actual activities in the playgrounds should be analyzed for the study on the children's playgrounds. The purpose of this study is to establish the design principles for the improvement of the children\`s playgrounds in apartment complex by means of the various methods ; behavior mapping, questionaires and photo simulations. For the purpose of data collection, children are divided into three groups-infants(0 to 4 years), young children(pre ; 5 to 8 years, post ; 9 to 11 years), teenagers(7.2 to 14 years). The study results are as follows; 1) Analysis of behavior mapping : (a) Approximately 70 percent of the children observed stayed in the playground less than 20 minutes. (b) Playing time for each play apparatus was less than 5 minutes. (c) As a result of the observation, the duration time in the attic was 1 hour or more (d) The swing was the most frequently used apparatus as children's first and last choice. (e) Most of the users were young children(46.5%). 2) Analysis of questionaires : (a) Children considered that the existing playgrounds were lack of shadows and the play apparatuses are not interesting. (b) They felt danger and crowding at the multi-used wooden apparatus. 3) Suggestions for the playground design : It is necessary that the playgrounds are divided into the infants, the young children's and the teenagers'playground. (a) The infants'playground needs about 50 square meters and needs to be located in the apartment court. (b) The young children's playground needs about 330 to 660 square meters and needs to be located adjacent to the pedestrian road. (c) The teenagers'playground needs about 660 to 1000 square meters, which is needed for various ball games.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships of mothers' parenting stress and young children's adjustment to the child care centers they attend. The subjects for this study comprised 401 young children from 1 to 4 years of age from 11 child care centers in C-si, Chungnam, and their mothers. The results of this study were as follows : First, there were no significant differences in the parenting stress of mothers related to whether they were working or not, the age of the children nor their gender Second, there were no significant differences in the adjustment of young children to their child care center related to their mothers' work status nor age of the children themselves. However, there was a significant difference in relation to the gender of the young children in that girls were better in their adjustment to the child care center than boys. Third, a negative correlation appeared between mothers' parenting stress and their young children's adjustment to the child care center in that the higher maternal parenting stress was, the greater the difficulties for their young children in their adjustment to the child care center. There were significant negatively correlations between most sub-factors of maternal parenting stress and the adjustment of those children to the child care center.
The purpose of this study was to develop a media literacy program for young children and explore its applicability and effects on young children's media literacy learning. Media literacy, as a concept combined literacy, or the ability to read and write, with media, is about more than just consuming information or understanding technological aspects of media, but is defined as expanded information and communication skills that are responsive to the changing nature of information in human environment. In order to develop media literacy program for young children, the goal and objectives, content areas, teaching methods and materials, and evaluation of media literacy program were searched and established. The subjects of this study consisted of a total of 51 children at age 5-6. The research had been implemented for 8 weeks integrated into daily activities of kindergarten children. Data were collected by interviewing with children using animations, and children-made-cartoons during the pre- and post-tests, and were analyzed quantitatively using rating criteria. The results of this study showed that there were significant differences found in children's abilities to reception, critical thinking, and creativity. This research made a major contribution to provision of a ground for developing an effective media literacy program for young children.
The purpose of this study was to examine consumers' perceptions of eco-friendly children's-wear and their impact on the selection criteria for children's-wear and stores. A descriptive survey method using a self-administered questionnaire was employed. The sample consisted of mothers with children under the age of 13 residing in Seoul and the Gyeonggi area. Data were collected from September 2011 to October, 2011. The collected data were analyzed to find the differences between purchasers and non-purchasers of eco-friendly children's-wear in terms of their perceptions of eco-friendly children's-wear, as well as the influence of these perceptions on the consideration degree of criteria for the selection of children's wear and store. The results indicate that perceptions of eco-friendly children's-wear implied five key factors related to quality reliability, expected value, style, degree of recognition, and dissatisfaction with design and price. The results also revealed some differences between the group purchasing eco-friendly children's-wear and the group not purchasing eco-friendly children's-wear. These different perceptions were related to the aspects of quality reliability, expected value, style, degree of recognition. In general, the non-purchasing group displayed a lower mean score than the purchasing group. Both groups showed a low interest in aesthetic appreciation and the degree of recognition factor. The results showed that consumer's perceptions of eco-friendly children's-wear had an influence on the criteria for the selection of children's-wear and store type in both groups. Considering the findings of the study, it is clear that both purchasers and non-purchasers of eco-friendly children's-wear showed differences in their perceptions and purchasing behavior. Therefore, marketing strategies to appeal to the non-purchasing group should be differentiated from strategies used to ensure the loyalty of the purchasing group.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of children's multiple intelligences and temperaments on their play behaviors. In order to achieve this, 155 mothers and 21 teachers of children aged 4 to 6 years old were invited to participate in an observe-reported survey. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS version 18.0. It was found that both multiple intelligences and temperament types have partial influences on play behaviors of young children; it was confirmed that among multiple intelligences of children, logical-mathematical intelligence influences onlooker behaviors in a positive way, body-kinesthetic intelligence has a positive effect on rough-and-tumble play, and musical intelligence positively affects social play during free-choice play. Also, children with a difficult temperament were more likely to participate in solitary play than children with a slow temperament. These results imply that teachers' guidance and involvement of children's play should differ by types of temperament and levels of multiple intelligence in children.
This study explored time-use patterns of young children and compared the patterns according to mother's employment status. Using 6718 time diaries of 3359 children under age 5, as reported by their mothers, this study examined (1) the proportion of children who spent time on certain activities and the amount of time they spent on each activity for a weekday and a weekend day and (2) the proportion and the amount of time that children spent with certain adults. Compared to children with unemployed mothers, children with employed mothers spent more time during weekdays in child care centers and less time sleeping. These children also spent more time on education during weekends. The proportionate and actual times children spent with various adults also differed by the mother's employment status. Those with employed mothers spent less time with their mothers and more time with other relatives or teachers on weekdays. These results indicate that maternal employment corresponds with differing timeuse patterns from children's early life stages.
This study investigated the effects of family related cooking programs on young children's basic science concepts and mathematics abilities. Subjects were 24 five-year-old children, 12 each for the experimental and the control group. Examinations of basic science concepts and mathematics abilities were applied to determine the homogeneity of the two groups. The 23 cooking activities, 12 for kindergarten and 11 for each child's home, were applied to the experimental group for six-week periods. The results of this study were that the family related cooking programs were effective in the formation of children's basic science concepts and children's mathematics abilities.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of family economic distress, paternal depression, marital relationship, and controlling parenting style on behavioral problems in young children and to present a program for their reduction. The participants of this study were 344 fathers, whose young children were attending kindergartens located in Cheongju city. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and Pearson's productive correlation, t and F-tests via the SPSS 12.0 program, with the path model analyzed using the AMOS 7.0 program. There were six paths where family economic distress, mediated by paternal depression, marital relationship, controlling parenting style, had effects on the behavioral problems in young children. However, the path where family economic distress had an indirect effect on the behavioral problems in young children via paternal depression and marital relationship appeared to be the most influential. Also, paternal depression appeared to have the most impact on young children's behavioral problems.
