Mobilizing Learning: Using Moodle and Online Tools via Smartphones

  • The emergence of smart devices such as smartphones (e.g., iPhone) and tablets (e.g., iPad) may enhance e-learning by increasing communication and collaborative learning outside the classroom. These devices also facilitate the use of online technologies such as Facebook. However, the adaptation of Learning Management System (LMS) services to mobile devices took longer than social networks or online tools such as Facebook and Twitter have already been long used via smartphone. The main purposes of this study are to explore students' skill levels of LMS (Moodle) and their knowledge of online tools or technologies and then examine if there is a correlation between smartphone use and using of online tools and Moodle in learning. The study conducted among 173 students in the Department of Information Studies (DIS) in Oman, using online survey. The study found that most students demonstrated high levels of accessing course/subject materials and regularly engaging with studies of using LMSs. YouTube, Wikipedia and Facebook were clearly recorded as the most popular sites among students while LinkedIn and Academia.edu were two online tools that had never been heard of by over half of the 142 participants. Emailing and searching are recorded the most popular online learning activities among students. The study concluded that students prefer to use smartphone for accessing these tools rather than using it to access LMSs, while a positive correlation was found between the use of these tools and smartphones, but there was no correlation between smartphones and using LMSs.

Thymosin Beta4 Regulates Cardiac Valve Formation Via Endothelial-Mesenchymal Transformation in Zebrafish Embryos

  • Thymosin beta4 (TB4) has multiple functions in cellular response in processes as diverse as embryonic organ development and the pathogeneses of disease, especially those associated with cardiac coronary vessels. However, the specific roles played by TB4 during heart valve development in vertebrates are largely unknown. Here, we identified a novel function of TB4 in endothelial-mesenchymal transformation (EMT) in cardiac valve endocardial cushions in zebrafish. The expressions of thymosin family members in developing zebrafish embryos were determined by whole mount in situ hybridization. Of the thymosin family members only zTB4 was expressed in the developing heart region. Cardiac valve development at 48 h post fertilization was defected in zebrafish TB4 (zTB4) morpholino-injected embryos (morphants). In zTB4 morphants, abnormal linear heart tube development was observed. The expressions of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) 4, notch1b, and hyaluronic acid synthase (HAS) 2 genes were also markedly reduced in atrio-ventricular canal (AVC). Endocardial cells in the AVC region were stained with anti-Zn5 antibody reactive against Dm-grasp (an EMT marker) to observe EMT in developing cardiac valves in zTB4 morphants. EMT marker expression in valve endothelial cells was confirmed after transfection with TB4 siRNA in the presence of transforming growth factor ${\beta}$ ($TGF{\beta}$) by RT-PCR and immunofluorescent assay. Zn5-positive endocardial AVC cells were not observed in zTB4 morphants, and knockdown of TB4 suppressed TGF-${\beta}$-induced EMT in ovine valve endothelial cells. Taken together, our results demonstrate that TB4 plays a pivotal role in cardiac valve formation by increasing EMT.

카카오톡 API를 이용한 Django 기반 챗봇 시스템 (Django based ChatBot System Using KakaoTalk API)

  • 본 논문은 대학생들이 소속 대학 내 주요 정보를 손쉽고 빠르게 검색할 수 있도록 KakaoTalk API를 활용하여 장고 프레임워크를 이용하여 챗봇 시스템을 개발하였다. 특정 정보만을 제공하는 기존 챗봇 시스템과는 달리 본 연구에서 개발한 챗봇은 대학 내 주요 정보 뿐만아니라 날씨, 유투브, 네이버 실시간 랭킹 검색 및 언어 번역 등 다양한 형태의 사용자 질의에 대해 자동으로 검색 결과를 제공한다. AWS Ubuntu 서버내에 Apache, Python 및 Django를 이용하여 모듈을 개발하였고 KakaoTalk API 및 BeautifulSoup 등을 이용하여 카카오톡 서버와 통신하여 사용자 질의에 대해 자동으로 응답하는 챗봇 시스템을 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 시스템에 대해서는 향후 대학 입시 정보 홍보 및 선거 홍보 시스템 등에 적용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

네트워크 자원효율 및 QoE 향상을 위한 콘텐츠 인기도 기반 무선 캐싱 기술 (Wireless Caching Techniques Based on Content Popularity for Network Resource Efficiency and Quality of Experience Improvement)

  • 최근 발표에 따르면, 2020년까지 모바일 데이터 트래픽이 현재의 11배까지 증가 될 것으로 예상된다. 그 중 비디오 트래픽이 70%를 차지할 것으로 예상되는 만큼 방대해지는 모바일 비디오 트래픽의 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 비디오 트래픽의 특성을 이해할 필요가 있다. 최근, 인기 있는 유튜브 비디오와 같은 일부 인기 있는 콘텐츠의 반복적인 요청으로 인해 네트워크 트래픽 오버헤드가 많이 발생한다. 만약 콘텐츠 인기도를 알고 인기 있는 콘텐츠를 미리 캐싱 할 수 있는 네트워크 노드를 구성한다면 이용자의 요청에 대해 캐싱 된 콘텐츠를 이용함으로써 네트워크 오버헤드를 줄일 수 있다. 장치 대 장치 통신, 멀티캐스트, 헬퍼를 통해 비디오 처리량이 기존의 방법보다 약 1.5배에서 2배의 이득이 향상되었다. 또한, 프리픽스 캐싱을 통해 기존의 방법보다 약 0.2배에서 0.5배의 재생 지연이 감소되었다. 본 논문에서는 무선 네트워크 환경에서 콘텐츠 인기도를 기반한 캐싱 기술에 대한 최신 연구를 소개 한다.

A Inclined Slot-excited Circular Plasma Source with a Cusp Magnetic Field

  • A inclined slot-excited plasma source is newly designed and constructed for higher flux HNB(Hyperthermal Neutral Beam) generation. The present source is different from the vertical SLAN(SLot ANtenna) sources [1] in two aspects. One is that the slots are inclined, and the other is that the magnetic field is configured to a cusp type. These modifications are intended to make the source plasma operated in sub-milli-torr pressure regime and as thin as possible, both of which is to get higher HNB flux by decreasing the re-ionization rate of the reflected atoms from the neutralizer [2]. The plasma is generated in a quartz tube of internal diameter 170 mm enclosed in a aluminum application chamber of larger diameter 250 mm. The microwave power is fed to the plasma chamber by 8 inclined slots cut into the application chamber wall. The slots are coupled the chamber to a WR280 waveguide wound around it to form a ring resonator. In order to make two slots $\lambda_g/2$ apart in phase, the adjacent slots are rotated in opposite directions. The rotation angle of the slots are set to $60^{\circ}$ from the chamber axis. Between the quartz chamber and the aluminum cylindrical chamber 8 NdFeB magnets are equally spaced and fixed to form the cusp magnetic field confinement and ECR (Electron Cyclotron Resonance) field. In this presentation, the magnetic and electromagnetic simulations, and the measured plasma parameters are given for both the inclined and the vertical slot-excited plasma sources. We also discuss how the sources can be tailored to suit better-performing HNB sources.

The Kernel Trick for Content-Based Media Retrieval in Online Social Networks

  • Nowadays, online or mobile social network services (SNS) are very popular and widely spread in our society and daily lives to instantly share, disseminate, and search information. In particular, SNS such as YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, and Amazon allow users to upload billions of images or videos and also provide a number of multimedia information to users. Information retrieval in multimedia-rich SNS is very useful but challenging task. Content-based media retrieval (CBMR) is the process of obtaining the relevant image or video objects for a given query from a collection of information sources. However, CBMR suffers from the dimensionality curse due to inherent high dimensionality features of media data. This paper investigates the effectiveness of the kernel trick in CBMR, specifically, the kernel principal component analysis (KPCA) for dimensionality reduction. KPCA is a nonlinear extension of linear principal component analysis (LPCA) to discovering nonlinear embeddings using the kernel trick. The fundamental idea of KPCA is mapping the input data into a highdimensional feature space through a nonlinear kernel function and then computing the principal components on that mapped space. This paper investigates the potential of KPCA in CBMR for feature extraction or dimensionality reduction. Using the Gaussian kernel in our experiments, we compute the principal components of an image dataset in the transformed space and then we use them as new feature dimensions for the image dataset. Moreover, KPCA can be applied to other many domains including CBMR, where LPCA has been used to extract features and where the nonlinear extension would be effective. Our results from extensive experiments demonstrate that the potential of KPCA is very encouraging compared with LPCA in CBMR.

  • 본 연구에서는 시니어클럽 시장형 노인일자리사업의 고객관계관리(CRM)가 경영성과에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대해 실증 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 시니어클럽 시장형 노인일자리사업의 경제적 소득 창출을 위한 기초자료 제공이 본 연구의 목적이다. 본 연구결과 첫째, 인구사회학적 특성에 따른 경영성과 차이 검증 결과 연령과 학력, 월평균 소득에서 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 시니어클럽 시장형 노인일자리사업의 접촉서비스와 커뮤니케이션이 경영성과에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 다음과 같이 제언하였다. 첫째, 소비자의 개인적 특성 등을 반영한 데이터베이스(DB) 구축과 함께 빅테이터, 인공지능 분석을 활용해야 한다. 둘째, 유튜브, ZOOM 등 사물인터넷 환경을 활용한 교육과 함께 고객 모니터링을 통해 수집된 정보를 바탕으로 의사소통에 대한 관리를 강화해야 한다.

Development of the Rule-based Smart Tourism Chatbot using Neo4J graph database

  • We have been developed the smart tourism app and the Instagram and YouTube contents to provide personalized tourism information and travel product information to individual tourists. In this paper, we develop a rule-based smart tourism chatbot with the khaiii (Kakao Hangul Analyzer III) morphological analyzer and Neo4J graph database. In the proposed chatbot system, we use a morpheme analyzer, a proper noun dictionary including tourist destination names, and a general noun dictionary including containing frequently used words in tourist information search to understand the intention of the user's question. The tourism knowledge base built using the Neo4J graph database provides adequate answers to tourists' questions. In this paper, the nodes of Neo4J are Area based on tourist destination address, Contents with property of tourist information, and Service including service attribute data frequently used for search. A Neo4J query is created based on the result of analyzing the intention of a tourist's question with the property of nodes and relationships in Neo4J database. An answer to the question is made by searching in the tourism knowledge base. In this paper, we create the tourism knowledge base using more than 1300 Jeju tourism information used in the smart tourism app. We plan to develop a multilingual smart tour chatbot using the named entity recognition (NER), intention classification using conditional random field(CRF), and transfer learning using the pretrained language models.

Reproduction based Multi-Contents Distribution Platform

  • As the use of smart devices is being increased rapidly by the development of internet and IT technology, the contents production and utilization rate are showing higher increase, too. In addition, the type of contents also shows very diverse forms such as education, game, video, UCC, etc. In the meantime, the contents are reproduced in diverse forms by reprocessing the original contents, and they are being serviced through the contents service platform. Therefore, the platform to make the contents reprocessing easy and fast is needed. As the diverse contents distribution channels such as YouTube, SNS, App Service, etc, easier contents distribution platform is needed, and the development of the relevant area is expected. In addition, as the selective consumption of the contents having easy accessibility through diverse smart devices is distinguished, the demand for the platform and service that can identify the contents consumption propensity by individual is being increased. Therefore, in this study, to vitalize the online contents distribution, the contents reproduction and publishing platform, was designed and materialized, which can reproduce and distribute the contents based on the real-time contents editing technology in URL unit and the consumer propensity analysis technology using the data management-based broadcasting contents distribution metadata technology and the edited image contents streaming technology. In addition, in the results of comparing with other platforms through the experiment, the performance superiority of the suggested platform was verified. If the suggested platform is applied to the areas of education, broadcasting, press, etc, the multi-media contents can be reproduced and distributed easily, through which the vitalization of contents-related industry is expected.

사회 신뢰와 갈등 인식이 뉴스 이용에 미치는 영향 : 지상파, 종합편성, 온라인채널을 중심으로 (The Effect of Social Trust and Conflict Perception on News Use)

  • 본 연구는 뉴스 이용자의 사회 신뢰와 갈등 인식이 뉴스 이용에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 국내 거주 20세 이상 69세 이하 성인 548명을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 응답자의 정치성향에 따라 사회 갈등의 인식 수준에 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 사회 신뢰 인식이 높을수록 지상파채널, 종합편성채널, 온라인채널의 뉴스 이용이 증가하였다. 셋째, 사회 갈등 인식은 JTBC와 TV조선, 채널A, 유튜브를 통한 뉴스이용에 영향을 미쳤다. 넷째, 응답자의 연령대와 정치성향도 채널별 뉴스이용에 영향을 미쳤다. 마지막으로, 진보적 성향일수록 JTBC를 통한 뉴스 이용이나 포털에서 뉴스 다시보기가 증가하는 경향성이 발견되었다. 반면에 진보적 성향일수록 지상파3사와 TV조선, 채널A를 통한 뉴스 이용은 감소하였다. 이상의 결과를 통해 본 연구는 다채널 다매체 시대 뉴스환경에 대한 논의를 이용자 중심에서 살펴보고, 개인의 사회 인식이 뉴스 이용에 미치는 영향력의 차이를 발견했다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다.
