Objectives: The existing reductionist approach has not reached complete understanding of the cause of schizophrenia. The objective of this study was to investigate yin-yang and five-element characteristics reflected on four time pillars of birth of patients with schizophrenia through comparison with the general population in the perspective of consilience-based holistic approach. Methods: This study was conducted using a random sequential recruitment method for the general population and individuals with schizophrenia aged 18 to 64 based on the exact date and time of birth using structured questionnaires. Relative positional relations of yin-yang and five-element with day master were primarily examined. In addition, the strength of day master with a score range of 0~100 points was assessed through operational score allocation. Results: Of 591 participants, 576 (346: general population, 230: individuals with schizophrenia) were analyzed. Between-group analyses showed no significant difference in the distribution of types of day master (χ²=10.41, df=9, p=0.318). However, significant between-group differences were shown in the distribution of the strength of day master (t=2.14, p=0.032) and frequency of restraining month branch (χ²=5.23, df=1, p=0.022). In logistic regression analysis, 10-point increase on the strength of day master decreased the probability of onset of schizophrenia over the age of 30 by 29.6% (p=0.002; 95% confidence interval, 0.566~0.876). Conclusions: Findings in this study suggest that four time pillars of birth might be associated with schizophrenia through yin-yang and five-element theory and synchronicity principle, implicating the plausibility of consilience-based holistic approach in the determination of risk factors or cause of schizophrenia.

Geomancy accepts with a pre-requisite that human beings adapt themselves to nature as an organism, because people and environment, bodies and space have the homogeneity which can not be divided by a dichotomy. The homogeneity as a structure alive implies a deep relationship with biorhythm and the change of space, and is regarded as a concept and role significant on the coordination. In other words, applying the element in the geomancy could be interpreted as a work giving a new meaning and spirit on a creation of space and furniture coordination. Harmony and balance shown in design concepts have a relationship with the meaning on Yin-Yang and the Five Elements theory. In addition, the characteristic in each element is suggested as an example applying the concept of geomancy through furniture coordination for each space in the chapter 4.

In the Nei Ching. the interrelation of Yin and Yang within the human body. based upon a perfect balance and a perfect mutual control. The affinity of Yin and Yang to each other was held to have a decisive influence upon man's health. Perfect harmony between the two primogenial elements meant health. Disharmony or undue preponderance of one element brought disease and death. The interrelation of Yin and Yang in the Nei Ching, had the organic view of the life. The world view of the harmony and balance in Nei Ching shows a unified world view that is symmetrical and in equibrilium in unity and conflict of opposite elements instead of combining with the closely related elements, namely, it is a fact that the life principle of the theory of Yin and Yang in Nei Ching is not the object of the killing and destroying for unity and conflict of opposite elements but the life cycle and life rule for the purpose of achieving the world of harmony, coexistence, and engendering via check and balance as well as confrontation between the opposite elements. In Nei Ching, like this, in the case where all of the antagonistic elements including the antagonism between You and Me, Yin and Yang affirm and tolerate each other, the organic view of the life in which the life of You and Me and the macrocosm is able to be maintained is suggested to the human being at a whole crisis.

'Nei Jing(內徑)' first defined the interrelationship of the true and tile false between evil factor affecting health(雅氣) and vital essence energy(精氣). According to 「'Nei Jing(內徑)', the above interrelationship is explained as 'If state of evil domination is considered as sthenia-syndrome(雅氣盛則實), if the consumption of healthy energy Is considered as asenia-syndrome(精氣尊則虛): 'Nei Jing(內徑)', proposed major features of the medicall treatment by 'regluate the vatal energy of asthenia and sthenia, treat the sthenia-syndrome by purgation, and treat the asenia-syndrome by therapy of invigoration(調其氣之虛實, 實則瀉之, 虛則補之): The above interrelationship was interpreted as 'treat the asthenia-syndrome of child organ by invigorating the mother organ(虛者補其母)'in the 69th of 'The Classic on Difficulty',(難經 六十九難). Go-Mu(高武) of Myung-dynasty describe therapy for invigoration and purgation of itself-meridian(自經 補瀉法), which locating acupuncture points according to the Therorr of Five Element in the five shu points of itself-meridian(自經 五유穴), based on the generation in the ${\ulcorner}$A Synthetical Book of Acupuncture and Moxibustion(針灸聚英)${\lrcorner}$, Sae-hyun Jang(張世賢) further extended location acupuncture points of the five shu points to the other-meridian in the ${\ulcorner}$Gyeo Jung Do Ju Nan Gyung(校正圖註難經)${\lrcorner}$ Sa-Ahm's 5 Element Acupuncture Method(舍嚴五行鍼法) was originated in 1644, the middle of the Yi-dynasty. It linked the reinforcing and reducing in acupuncture therapy which incorporated tlle asthenia-syndrome and sthenia-syndrome of the hollow organs, based on principle of the Yin Yang 5 Element Theory(陰陽五行學說), not only to the generation in the 5 element(相生關係) but also to the restriction in the 5 element(相剋關係). Furthermore it was devised for the medical treatment by comning therapy for invigoration and purgation of itself-meridian(自經 補瀉法) with that of the other-meridian. Even though many original forms(正形) of the therapy for invigoration and purgation of the Yin Yang 5 Element Theory comply with the principle of the generation and the restriction based on the principle of the Yin Yang 5 Element Theory are abailable, variational forms(變形) are also recognized by examining the nature of the Sa-Ahm's 5 Element Acupuncture Method(舍嚴五行鍼法), For this reason, it is very difficult to understand the Sa-Ahm's 5 Element Acupuncture Method(舍嚴五行鍼法) thoroughly. therefore, those variational forms are obstacles for the beginners to study the Sa-Ahm's 5 Element Acupuncture Method. In order to understand the principle of the practical clinical application of the Sa-Ahm's 5 Element Acupuncture Method, this study investigated which principle was based on the variations of the locating acupuncture points' method for the acupuncture prescription.

The paper is concerned about the discovery of new physics of the old oriental philosophy of the yin-Yang '||'&'||' five elements. the physical properties of Five Elements are defined, similarly as in thermodynamics, as five different characteristic state in a cyclic system of nature or a human body. Wood is defined as "warm and soft", Fire as "hot and dispersive", Earth as "agglomerating and sticky", Metal as "tensile and crystallizing", and Water as "cool and slippery" state, respectively. Based on the physics of Five Elements and Qi channel theory, five different constitution classification s are made according to the shape of human face, such as long, inverse triangle, circle, square, and triangle geometry, respectively.Since the constitution implies the relative size or strength of 5 major organs, this theory can be applies successfully to the prediction of the susceptibility to specific diseases as well as the analyses of personal character such as emotion and sensibility. The specific character is analyzed with four different aspects; that is, the first and second are caused by the positive and negative side of the strongest organ, the third character by determined the weakest organ, and finally the fourth by the abnormal psychology due to serious illness.bnormal psychology due to serious illness.

조선시대의 예학의 기준을 제공하였던 "주자가례(朱子家禮)"는 현재까지도 조상과 소통하는 제례에서도 많은 영향을 미치고 있다. 그러나 제례의 진설방법에 대해서는 연구가 미흡하였으며 형식적인 의례절차로 이해되었다. 이에 본 논문은 제례진설의 상징체계를 이해하기 위해 당시의 사상과 학문적 기초를 제공한 고대 천문관과 우주 질서에 대한 이해의 관점에서 음양오행론을 통해 "주자가례(朱子家禮)"에 나타난 진설도를 분석하고자 하였다. 그 결과 제례진설이 당시 사람들이 이해한 우주관과 세상에 대한 질서 논리인 음양오행의 상징구조에 의해 진설되어졌음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 제례진설에 담긴 의미를 파악함으로서 문화의 지속과 변화의 과정 속에서 제례 문화의 원형을 이해하고 전승될 수 있는 계기를 마련하고자 한다.

음행오행 이론에 의하여 사람의 체질을 분류하였으며 오행속성에 근거하여 체질에 따른 성격을 나타내었다. 이 결과를 토대로 이를 감성에 적용하였으며, 감성지수 테스트를 위한 본 실험실에서 정리한 대표적인 질문항목을 제시하였다. 감성지수는 목, 화 토, 금, 수, 상화의 6개의 분야에 대해 각각 긍정적인 질문과 부정적인 질문으로 구성되었다.

In Jang-Sang theory, ‘Sang’ indicates ‘Hyung Sang’. The internal organs appear it's shapes(Hyung Sang) outward. ‘Hyung Sang’ is concept that was used on 「the book of changes」(周易) and 「Nei Ching」(內經) to means a thing's shapes and conditions. ‘Hyung’ is the shape, an organization composing a thing and ‘Sang’ is the symptom, an essence(a seed) immanenting a thing. To observe Hyung Sang, it have to apply the principle that ‘the sky and man correspond each other(天人相應)’. Usually ‘Hyung’ appears as shapes and ‘Sang’ appears as colors and conditions. Diagnosis on the basis of Hyung Sang put first the external expression of the five Jang six Bu organs and Jung-Ki-Shin-Hyul(精氣神血). So a doctor has to unite shapes, colors, pulse and symptoms(形, 色, 脈, 症) when diagnosis a patient. The theory of Hyung Sang includes the basic theories of the oriental medicine, the theory for Yin-Yang and the five element(陰陽五行論), organ picture(Jang-Sang), meridians(經絡學說), the five circuit phases and the six atmospheric influences(運氣學說), physical constitution(體質學說). I think that treatment based on Hyung Sang is shown the essence of the oriental medicine well. In the future, I think, we need to study more about the theory of Hyung Sang.

본 연구는 소쇄원 48영의 잠재적 의미경관 구성에 있어서 인간의 본성과 우주적 보편적 질서를 연결하는 사유체계라 할 수 있는 음양오행론(陰陽五行論)적 의미를 추출하는데 목적이 있다. 지금까지의 논의를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 1. 소쇄원 48영에 대한 음양(陰陽)적 경관구성 중 자연과 행위의 관계를 형상화 한 시문은 작중 화자가 산수를 유유자적하게 완상하거나 답사하는 동적인 모습을 그렸다. 주로 양(陽)의 배속을 통해 동 남쪽에서 창작된 경우가 많았다. 반면 정적인 음(陰)의 경관구성이라 할 수 있는 자연과 경물을 형상화 한 시문은 북 서쪽 부근에서 창작된 경우가 많았다. 자연과 인공 경물을 작품으로 형상화 한 시문은 김인후 자신이 경물을 두고 의미경관을 표출하고자 한 경우와 있는 그대로의 사실적 정원의 이미지를 묘사한 경우로 구분 지을 수 있다. 시문은 행위의 표현보다는 경물을 형상화하는데 치중했음을 보여준다. 또한 제1영과 마지막 작품인 '장원제영'의 시문이 모두 같은 구역 안에 있다는 것은 음과 양, 자연의 순환원리가 내재된 종시(終始)적 공간으로 파악했다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 2. 소쇄원 48영에 대한 오행론(五行論)적 경관해석 중 발산(發散)에 의해 결합된 세계로서 목(木), 화(火)기(氣)를 들 수 있다. 먼저 목의 성정을 나타내는 시문은 경물을 형상화 한 시문이 많았으며, 정내의 전체구도에서 동향인 오곡문 구역에 배치되어 있었다. 시문의 내용은 유연하고 소박함 속에서 발생과 곡직(曲直)을 나타내고 있다. 화의 성정을 나타내는 시문은 행위를 형상화 한 시문이 많았으며, 정내에서는 낮에 해가 위치하는 남향인 애양단 구역에서 창작되었다. 모두 양의 속성인 발산과 상승을 특징으로 하는 변(變)의 운동에 오른 상태라 할 수 있다. 3. 소쇄원 48영에 대한 오행론적 경관해석 중 수렴(收斂)에 의해 결합된 세계로서 금(金), 수(水)기를 들 수 있다. 먼저 금의 성정을 나타내는 시문들은 모두 경물을 형상화 한 시문이었고, 정내의 전체구도에서는 서향인 대나무 숲 구역에 배치되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 사계절 중 가을의 경치를 나타내며, 선비의 단호함과 의로움의 정결을 나타내고 있다. 수의 성정을 표현한 시문은 정원의 가장 상단이라 할 수 있는 북향의 제월당 부근에서 창작되었으며, 시간적으로 저녁 늦은 밤 달맞이를 하는 행위를 형상화 한 시문과 설경의 자연경물을 형상화 한 시문이었다. 모두 수렴에 의한 음으로 화(化)하는 기운을 표현한 시문이라 할 수 있다. 4. 소쇄원 48영에 대한 오행론적 경관해석 중 수렴과 발산의 복합체라 할 수 있는 토(土)의 성정을 나타내는 시문은 내원의 경관 중 중앙에 위치한 광풍각 계류주변이며, 자연현상과 인공경물을 통해 작가의 행위를 매개하고 있다.
