Comparison of Mathematical Models Applied to F1 Dairy Sheep Lactations in Organic Farm and Environmental Factors Affecting Lactation Curve Parameter

  • The objective of this study was to compare the goodness of fit of four lactation curve models: Wood's Gamma model (WD), Wilmink (WL), and Pollott's multiplicative two (POL2) and three parameters (POL3) and to determine the environmental factors affecting the complete lactation curve of F1 dairy sheep under organic management. A total of 5,382 weekly milk yields records from 150 ewes, under organic management were used. Residual mean square (RMS), determination coefficients ($R^2$), and correlation (r) analysis were used as an indicator of goodness of fit for each model. WL model best fitted the lactation curves as indicated by the lower RMS values (0.019), followed by WD (0.023), POL2 (0.025) and POL3 (0.029). The four models provided total milk yield (TMY) estimations that were highly correlated (0.93 to 0.97) with observed TMY (89.9 kg). The four models under estimated peak yield (PY), whereas POL2 and POL3 gave nearer peak time lactation estimations. Ewes lambing in autumn had higher TMY and showed a typical curve shape. Higher TMY were recorded in second and third lambing. Season of lambing, number of lambing and type of lambing had a great influenced over TMY shaping the complete lactation curve of F1 dairy sheep. In general terms WL model showed the best fit to the F1 dairy sheep lactation curve under organic management.

Development of Site Index Model for Cryptomeria japonica Stands by the Current Growth Characteristics in South Korea (현실임분 생장특성을 반영한 삼나무 지위지수 추정 모델 개발)

  • This study was carried out to provide basic data for logical forest management by developing a site index curve reflecting the current growth characteristics of Cryptomeria japonica stands in Korea. The height growth model was developed using the Chapman-Richards, Schumacher, Gompertz, and Weibull algebraic difference equations, which are widely used in growth estimation, for data collected from 119 plots through the 7th National Forest Inventory and stand survey. The Chapman-Richards equation, with the highest model fit, was selected as the best equation for the height growth model, and a site index curve was developed using the guide curve method. To compare the developed site index curve with that on the yield table, paired T-tests with a significance level of 5% were performed. The results indicated that there were no significant differences between the site index curve values at all ages, and the p-value was smaller after the reference age than before. Therefore, the site index curve developed through this study reflects the characteristics of the changing growth environment of C. japonica stands and can be used in accordance with the site index curve on the current yield table. Thus, this information can be considered valuable as basic data for reasonable forest management.

An Analysis on the Yield Curves for Active Bond Managements (적극적 채권운용전략을 위한 수익률곡선 분석)

  • Before the financial crisis in 1997, Korean bond markets had been those of corporate bonds with relatively high market yield. During the period, most of major institutional investors tend to utilize passive strategies such as buying and holding. After the crisis, however, they could not help choosing active bond management strategies because of lowed yield level and intensified competition among the financial institutions. This study is forced on the yield curve, which is the reflection of all information on the bond investment environments. The study also make analysis on the major economic and securities market factors and its structural relationship with the shape of the curve such as level, curvature and slope. For these purposes, an empirical model based on the Nelson-Siegel Model is estimated with the data during $1999{\sim}2006$. Out-of-sample forecasting is also made to test the usefulness of the estimated model. In addition, the dependent variables which are the estimates of level and slope are estimated on the macro variables and securities market variables. VAR and SUR models are used for the estimation. Estimation results show that level and slope of the yield curve are influenced by the target call rate change, exchange rate change rate, inflation rate. These results provide practical implications for the active managements in the overall treasury bond markets.

ESTIMATION OF DUCTILE FRACTURE BEHAVIOR INCORPORATING MATERIAL ANISOTROPY

  • Since standardized fracture test specimens cannot be easily extracted from in-service components, several alternative fracture toughness test methods have been proposed to characterize the deformation and fracture resistance of materials. One of the more promising alternatives is the local approach employing the SP(Small Punch) testing technique. However, this process has several limitations such as a lack of anisotropic yield potential and tediousness in the damage parameter calibration process. The present paper investigates estimation of ductile fracture resistance(J-R) curve by FE(Finite Element) analyses using an anisotropic damage model and enhanced calibration procedure. In this context, specific tensile tests to quantify plastic strain ratios were carried out and SP test data were obtained from the previous research. Also, damage parameters constituting the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman model in conjunction with Hill's 48 yield criterion were calibrated for a typical nuclear reactor material through a genetic algorithm. Finally, the J-R curve of a standard compact tension specimen was predicted by further detailed FE analyses employing the calibrated damage parameters. It showed a lower fracture resistance of the specimen material than that based on the isotropic yield criterion. Therefore, a more realistic J-R curve of a reactor material can be obtained effectively from the proposed methodology by taking into account a reduced load-carrying capacity due to anisotropy.

Thermomechanical Characteristics for Structural Material of Supersonic Vehicle (초음속 비행체 구조재료에 대한 열기계적 특성)

  • The thermomechanical characteristics were evaluated for 17-4PH stainless steel widely used in supersonic airframe subjected to both aerodynamic loading and heating. The thermomechanical tests were conducted under both elevated temperature and rapid heating condition from $1^{\circ}C/sec\;to\;28^{\circ}C/sec$. The thermomechanical behaviors under rapid heating were compared with those of elevated temperature after 1/2 hour exposure in terms of yield stress to investigate the influence of heating rates. A heating rate-yield temperature parameter was suggested for rapid heating based on time-temperature parameters, and master yield stress curve was obtained by using these parameters. The experimental results and methodology from this study can be used as basic engineering data when designing supersonic vehicle structures subjected to aerodynamic loading and severe heating environment.

Assessment of the Soybean Yield Reduction due to Infection of Septoria Brown Spot, Septoria glycines Hemmi (대두 갈색무늬병에 의한 수량감소의 평가)

  • Septoria brown spot closed by Septoria glycines is one of the most serious fungal diseases in soybean. Average yield reduction of 3 varieties for two years was $16.1\%$ by the septoria brown spot inoculation and $9.0\%$ by the natural infection as compared to fungicide-sprayed plots. Number of pods per plant and seed weight were significantly reduced while plant height, number of branches and number of nodes per plant were not affected. Yield reduction was positively correlated to the septoria brown spot severity in all varieties examined. Correlation coefficient $(r=0.38^*)$ between yield reduction and area under the disease progress curve was higher than that (r=0.156) between yield reduction and Van der Plank's apparent infection rate. Potential effect of the septoria brown spot on the soybean yield reduction estimated with the area under the disease progress curve was expressed by the equation of Y=4.38+0.05X $(r=0.0696^*,\;df=25)$.

  • A novel indentation theory is proposed by examining the data from the incremental plasticity theory based finite element analyses. First the optimal data acquisition location is selected, where the strain gradient is the least and the effect of friction is negligible. This data acquisition point increases the strain range by a factor of five. Numerical regressions of obtained data exhibit that strain hardening exponent and yield strain are the two main parameters which govern the subindenter deformation characteristics. The new indentation theory successfully provides the stress-strain curve with an average error less than 5%.

  • There are 3 systems in incentive-based normal load management in Korea; day or hour-ahead, week-ahead, months-ahead. These are originally similar in their operational implementation, but differ in their pre-notification period. Therefore the incentive of these systems should be different according to prenotification period. This is the key problem in implementing these load managements. Customers participating in these load managements feel their economic differences, depending on the risk by prenotification dates. The shorter prenotification period, the more risk take the customers. This paper proposes the method of incentive variation in prenotification difference, by using the theory of financial yield curve, which is used in analysing short and long duration bond interesting rates and is reflecting risk premium in their period.

  • A nonlinear second-order analysis program that properly describes the nonlinear behavior of concrete was developed by using the layering technique. As the slenderness ratio of column is increased, the peaks of P-M curve lie remote from the section interaction diagram for the same eccentricities. But the peaks of P-M curve lie rather close to the section interaction diagram for very large eccentricities. In this study , the effects of compressive strength of concrete, longitudinal steel ratio, and yield strength of steel on second-order moment of concrete columns were analyzed. As the compressive strength of concrete and the yield strength of steel are increased, the ratio of peak axial force to maximum axial strength for concentrically loaded short column( Pu/Po) is decreased. But as the longitudinal steel ratio is increased, the ratio , Pu/Po increases.
