근대(近代) 한국복식(韓國服飾)의 변화(變化) 요인(要因) (The Factors of Korean Costume's Change in the Modern Times)

  • Since Korea opened the door to the Western World, traditional costume has changed. The factors of change are as follows: 1) Cultural diffusion by the cultural contact is the foundamental factor of the costume change. 2) The government made edicts of clothing reform. The formal dresses of government official were simplified several times, the edict was issued for men to cut off their hair, and military uniform and government officials' dresses were west-ernized. 3) The diffusion of modernized education by the missionary school accerlerated clothing change. Students were ahead of the abolition of Suege-Chima (which is a sort of veil used to conceal woman's face). 4) The change in the activity of women in society made the women's dresses more convenient for action. 5) The open class system and social agitation speeded up the rate of change. During the Yi Dynasty class distinction was rigid, but the government made the laws which abolished the class distiction.

  • "Jung Ri Eui Kwae" is the book, illustrated and recorded with court coutesy and manners during the King, Jung Jo's honoured coming to his own father's royal tomb "Hyun Ryung Won" of Sa Do Seh Ja(The Crown Prince to be mourned) with his own mother Hae Kyung Koong Mrs. Hong. According to this book, we can see the costumes and its ornaments of the civil and military officials and also of Yu Ryung(the maden court musician) and Dong Ki (a young Kisaeng girl) during serving at Bong Soo Dang bangquet celebrating his own mother's 60th birthday anniversary. It is interesting to review once more the royal ceremonies representing the portion of the costumes and its ornaments in the 18th century of the Yi Dynasty, Yung-Jung Jo era that is to be thought the reform period in almost every field of social system.

고려청자(高麗靑磁)의 형태분석(形態分析) (매병(梅甁)의 균제성(均齊性) 연구(硏究)) (Analysis of the Koryo Celadon Shape (The Symmetry Study on the Maebyong))

  • The typical characteristic shape of the Koryo inlaid celadon Maebyong was reviewed and the symmetry of S curve was analyzed by the method of geometric basis. The contours of Maebyongs sampled were drawn and divided with geometric rectangular proportion. The analytical results showed the static and dynamic symmetric of the vase and the ratios of height and base of the rectangles established for the analysis of their shapes were almost 1:1, 1:${\sqrt{2}}$ and 3:5(known as the Golden Ratio). The excellent beauty of the curve was principally caused by the balanced and harmonius division of the proportional rectangles. The contour line was developed along with the logarithmic spiral modified and introduced lately into the shape of Yi dynasty's liquor bottle.

A Study on the Items and Shapes of Korean Shrouds

  • The purpose of this research was to understand changes in Korean shrouds and to enhance practical usage of them by examing the items and shapes of Korean shrouds classified into two categories, traditional and current. We first examined the history of shrouds and funeral ceremonies from the prehistoric age to the Chos o n dynasty, and second, examined the items and shapes of traditional and current shrouds. As for the items, no big changes were recognized though there had been some changes in the way of using Keum(衾), Po(袍), and Kwadu(裏 ). Overall, the items had becamesomewhat simplified The traditional shapes of shrouds are relatively well-maintained despite some changes in current shrouds Aksu, Yeomo(女帽), etc, which had been made easier to put on.

고사촬요(攷事撮要)의 판종고(版種考) (Study on the Edition of Kosachalyo(攷事撮要))

  • The Kosachalyo was the reference book which was composed of records collected about the procedures regulating the foreign relations or daily lives of the officials or the scholars, who had no official positions, in the Yi dynasty. The compilation work of the Kosachalyo was started from the date of the compilation of the original one by U sook-kwon (魚叔權) in the 9th year (1554) of King Myongjong (明宗). Su Myongung (徐明) revised and complemented the contents of the original one in full scale, named it as the Kosashinsu(攷事新書) in the 47th year(1771) of King Yongjo(英祖). In that period, the original Kosachalyo was revised and complemented twelve times and republished. Until now, it has been said that the original Kosachalyo had been suffered the revising or complementing works six times or nine times. But in this thesis it is assured that it was revised or complemented twelve times in the period from 1554 to 1771 upon the various historical documents.

존경각장서(尊經閣藏書)에 관한 일고찰(一考察) (The Collection of Jon Gyung Gak)

  • Jon Gyunk Gak established in 1475 was the library of Sung Kyun Kwan which was the only university in the period of Yi Dynasty. For the study of library histories of Korea, particularly the libraries of high learning institutions the Jon Gyung Gak library acquires a greater importance. The collection of Jon Gyung Gak consisted mainly of Chinese classics such as the works of Confucius, Mencius, or the books about histories which were the textbooks of students in those days. But the books about Laoism or Buddhism were strictly forbiddened, and also books like medicine or agriculture pertaining to technical sciences were disregarded. The Jon Gyung Gak was destroyed by fire in 1514 and suffered severely again by the 1m Chin War in 1590's, but the library had been made constant efforts to maintain its collections for the performance of educational functions. This paper gives special emphasis to analyzing the collection of Jon Gyung Gak by its chronological order.

생활한복 저고리 디자인의 구성적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Clothing Constructional Characteristics of Contemporary Folk Jogori Design)

  • This study investigated the clothing constructional characteristics of contemporary folk Jogori design retailed at the market. This study focussed on comparison of style variation between contemporary Jogori and traditional Jogori. The data were collected from five top contemporary folk dress makers's 997-1998 fall-winter collection. The results of this study were as following. 1) The traditional folk clothing constructional elements remained most among the con- temporary Jogori design were center back seam(Deung-Sol) and attached front bodice extensi on(Sup). Neckline shaping(Geet) and neckline binding(Dong-Jeong) were also observed frequently. 2) The most obvious changes from the traditional Jogori design were elimination of the ribbon fastener in front, adaptation of various neckline shaping used in the Yi dynasty, and lengthened garment length. 3) The western garment construction techniques applied to the contemporary Jogori design were use o( pocket and button closure. The center front extension was replaced with attached front bodice extension(Sup) for a few Jogori design.

  • It is quite natural that the preference of food should be changed by the effect of the social environments and economic conditions of each period, however, the Korean traditional food has been enrooted firmly as one of the fundamental elements in our life which has been formed in harmony with the natural surroundings and the human life patterns in Korea. As a result of my study on Korean food through various documents and papers which were published in the part from Yi Dynasty till now, about 4,000 items were collected. This paper is prepared to report some of those items with a brief summary.

『난화몽기전(蘭花夢寄傳)』의 여성영웅과 비극성 (Orchid Dream Wonderful Biography(蘭花夢寄傳)'s heroine and tragic characteristics.)

  • Orchid Dream Wonderful Biography(蘭花夢奇傳), whose author was Yimmeishanren(吟梅山人), is a Xia-Yi-Ai-Qing(俠義愛情) novel in the late Qing Dynasty. The work published in 1905 when Emperor Guangxu(光緖) governed China. The novel was reprinted for several times to its excellent art feature as well as its public praise. Orchid Dream Wonderful Biography narratives the life story of the heroin, Songbaozhu(松寶珠). Songbaozhu disguises herself as a man, takes the imperial examination, and takes part in the war. However, she is abused after marring Xuwenqing(許文卿), finally, she dies in misery. Songbaozhu's tragic fate show that although a woman may disguise as a man and makes great contributions in novel, it would never come true in reality. Songbaolin(松寶林) is also home to female hero. She has a younger brother and sister were strictly education. She is a female hero of the pitch. The writer creates her, had to satisfy a social reality male. Orchid Dream Wonderful Biography, this work has had a tragic or a reality. This work represents the limits of consciousness and the writers. Orchid Dream Wonderful Biography did not transcend male-oriented notions.

愚潭丁時翰心性論淺析 - 以退溪, 栗谷, 愚潭比較為中心 (On Woodam Jeong Si-Han's Xin and Xing Theory)

  • 愚潭丁時翰(1625-1707)是朝鮮朝中期退溪學派的主要代表人物之一, 他一生隱居求志躬行心得為後世儒者所敬仰。 作為近畿主理論學者他同李玄逸(1627-1704, 字翼升, 號葛庵)一起, 對退溪的四七理論作了積極維護和系統闡述。 本文從比較的角度, 對愚潭的理氣說, 四端七情說, 人心道心說進行了簡要論述。 儘管他在理氣關係及四七理論的解釋上有些折衷退溪與栗谷思想之傾向, 但是從四七說以及對理氣關係的主僕, 上下位關係的解釋中我們還是可以看出其基於退溪的尊理貶氣, 理氣互發之義上的為學特色。 在人心道心說方面的特點在於, 其對朱子所講的實然之"心"的重視。
