  • This research aims to analyze the Sasang constitutions of army soldiers using the measuring tools which were developed by the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine the government-affiliated Ministry of Science. Then, this research compares the The Sasang constitutions of soldiers to the Sasang typology of Yi Je-Ma, who systemized Korean traditional medicine in 1800s. Also, by comparing each result of subjected army unit, we will recommend proper diet management at regular intervals in order to enhance morals of soldiers. Finally, we also suggest to apply Sasang constitution to consultation in military so as to strengthen the combat power of the army.

  • According to the above, Myungsunrock(明善錄) written by 'Hansuckji(韓錫地);A.D.$1709{\sim}1803$' advocated his idea as well as criticized theory of 'Zhu Zi(朱子)' and influnced of the theory of 'SaSang Constitutional Medicine(四象醫學)' established by 'Lee Je-ma(李濟馬)' indirectly and directly inlater. Therefore it was as follows that the conclusion of the contents of Myungsunrock' and the philosophical basis of 'SaSang Constitutional Medicine(四象醫學)’. 1. Hansuckji was the 'Choungju Hanssi Rhevinyungongpa(淸州 韓氏) 禮'賓 尹a公n派)’ and descendanted with of the founder of his family and he was born in 1709, dead in 1803 at 95 age 2. Hansuckji was a scholar of a 'Yang Ming(陽明)’ that criticized study of 'Zhu Zi' and the group of 'Song(宋)' 3. Hansuckji defined that "Ge(格) is Zheng(正)". 4. Hansuckji advocated 'Zhi Xing He Yi Shuo(知行合一說)' 5. Hansuckji advocated that (we must) reach the 'Ming Shan(明善)' through the study and the means of 'Ming Shan' is as like as the means of 'Zhi Liang Zhi(致良知)' 6. Hansuckji explained of theory of 'Tiyong(體用)' instead of deviding into 'Tian Ren Xin Ming Li Qi(天 人 性 命 理 氣)' 7. The thought of Hansuckji delivered the theory of 'SaSang Constitutional Medicine(四象醫學:' established Lee Je-ma(李濟馬) directly and indirectly 8. Hansuckji is the first class of the scholars of 'Yang Ming' that included the contents of theory of 'Yang Ming' among the 'Yanlun(言論), directly 9. • The Chinese poems written by Je-Ma Yi may be categorized into two different facets: one is about a broad spectrum of a man's feelings covering from delight to sorrow; and the other is about self-caution. He has been known to be a warrior having strong self-respect and a man of tough personality reluctant to compromise with others. As a result of analyzing his poems, however, it was confirmed that he was an ordinary person who got along with his neighborhood, took a pleasure in appreciating natural beauty and wandered around in agonies of pain. The literary features reflected in his self-caution poems are compatible with his own philosophical thought. Through these poems, he revealed his autonomous perception of life, and its ultimate goal was placed on the fulfillment of moral obligation, the highest value that a man should achieve as an individual. Je-Ma Yi's Chinese poems are in full harmony with the general tendency shown in the area of poetic literature during the late Yi dynasty. As pointed out above, particular qualities are represented in his poems, and thereby, from comparative perspectives with his unique literariness, future research activities should be directed to a well-defined study on other contemporary writers.

  • The Namwon and Sunchang granites are neighbouring plutons intruding the Yeongnam massif and the Okcheon metamorphic belt, respectively in the southwestern part of the Korean peninsula. In this study, SHRIMP zircon U-Pb ages are determined from these plutons. The results show that the emplacement age of the Namwon granite is $185.8{\pm}0.9(2{\sigma})$ Ma. We obtained $175.0{\pm}2.0(2{\sigma})$ Ma from the northern part and $179.8{\pm}0.9(2{\sigma})$ Ma from the central part of the Sunchang granite, yielding $177.4{\pm}1.3(2{\sigma})$ Ma as the average age of the pluton. Such age results confirm that the Honam shear zone, which cause marked deformation of the Sunchang granite, was active after ca. 175 Ma.

  • Precambrian gneiss complex in the Pyeongchang-Wonju area, which lies west of the Paleozoic sedimentary basin of the Yeongwol-Taebaek area, is being considered as a part of the Gyeonggi massif, but its ages of formation and metamorphic events are not well defined yet. In this study, SHRIMP zircon U-Pb ages were determined from the gneiss complex in the area, We obtained the discrete ages of magmatic (ca. 1960 Ma) and metamorphic (ca. 1860 Ma) events through the interpretation of the SHRIMP data based on the internal structures of zircons. These are almost the same to the ages of main intrusion and metamorphism reported from the Precambrian basements of Gyeonggi, Yeongnam and Nangnim massifs of the Korean Peninsula, Ages of 3200~3300 Ma, 2900 Ma, 2660 Ma, 2430 Ma, 2260 Ma, and 2080~2070 Ma obtained from inherited cores of studied zircons are also very similar to the frequently reported ages from the basement rocks of the Gyeonggi and Yeongnam massifs, Lower intercept age of about 270 Ma calculated from the rim data seems to indicate that the study area suffered from a late Paleozoic metamorphism (Okcheon Orogeny), but we need more reasonable and sufficient data to confirm it. According to the results of this study, it is suggested that the Bangnim group unconformably overlying the gneiss complex was deposited after the Paleoproterozoic granitic magmatism (ca. 1960 Ma) and metamorphism (ca. 1860 Ma).

  • The objective of this article is to induce that the conception of 'Qi-jul(氣質) and Qi-pum(氣稟)' was introduced to the Sasang(四象) Constitutional Medicine from bibliographic study on the theory of 'Qi-pum(氣稟)'. The conclusions summerized as followings. 1. In the oriental medicine, qualitative difference of 'zheng-qi(正氣)' among the individuals, the opposing power against a disease, is regarded as constitution. Having been used as 'nature(素)', 'quality(質)' and 'character(氣質)' in the oriental medical book, the word of 'Che-Jil(體質)' was used in good earnest at the end of 'Qing(情)' dynasty. 2. The nature(性) is divided into two, original nature(本然之性) and charicteristic nature(氣質之性) in the 'New confucianism(新儒學)' and the former means a principle(理), is a pure and good thing and used as a conception of universality, the latter is a principle of character and a imperfect imitation of principle(理). 3. It was repeatedly confirmed that 'Qi-jil and Qi-pum' meant the difference among the individuals by the dispute of 'Li-Qi(理氣)' caused by Lee Hwang(李滉) and Lee Yi(李耳) and by that of 'Ho-Rak(湖洛)' in the Ch'o-son(朝鮮) dynasty. 4. Han Sok-Ji, based on Meng-Zi(孟子)'s doctrine that man's inborn nature is good, criticized the theory of 'Qi-pum' which was 'Zhu-Zi(朱子)'s opinion and his opinion about the life(命) was thought to clue to the classification of the 'Sasang(四象)' invented by Lee Je-Ma as Park Se-Dang's theory that everyone has common nature but has different life(命). 5. By introducing the theory of 'Qi-pum' and the conception of life(命) which was understood as a special character by Han Sok-Ji and Park Se-Dang to Sa-sang constitutional medicine, Lee Je-Ma explained the reason why each man who was classified four constitutions, 'Taiyang'(太陽), 'Taiyin'(太陰), 'Shaoyang'(少陽), 'Shaoyin'(少陰), had the different formation of the visceral department(臟局).

  • Objective : This study was conducted to underpin the theory of Taegeuk Acupuncture systematically and increase the utility of clinical trial and a range of application. Method : This study analysed ByungHaeng Lee's theory, who is the originator of Taegeuk Acupuncture, by focusing on "Young Chu GuChimSibYiWon" Result & Conclusion : 1. ByungHaeng Lee's thought about Viscera and Bowels is following medicine of Internal Classic. Even though JeMa Lee's thought about Viscera and Bowels has same name with ByungHaeng Lee's, but the functional meaning and related part is totally different. So, four constitution types in Taegeuk Acupuncture are different from four constitution types in Four-Constitution Medicine. Therefore, Taegeuk Acupuncture isn't related with Four-Constitution Medicine 2. On the authority of "Young Chu GuChimSibYiWon", we can extend 4 therapeutic acupuncture point combinations of Taegeuk Acupuncture to ten therapeutic acupuncture point combinations which tentatively named 'Five Viscera Source Point Acupuncture'. 3. To consider an example of eight constitutional acupuncture, Taegeuk Acupuncture thoroughly says constitutional acupuncture. Especially, JaeGyuKim's Taegeuk Acupuncture has specific diagnosis standard that after treating a patient with acupuncture, he checks an oppressive pain at the precordial region and a voiced sound at liver and then he makes sure constitution of patient. So we can consider JaeGyuKim's Taegeuk Acupuncture as constitutional acupuncture. However, it has to change the name of four constitution types to taegeuk greater yang person, taegeuk lesser yang person, taegeuk greater yin person, taegeuk lesser yin person so as to avoid confusion. 4. Taegeuk Acupuncture is markedly simple in comparison with other acupuncture, so it needs to extend the utility of clinics by enlarging treatment acupuncture points.

  • 1. Purpose : This study is a try for making a historical examinatiom of the symptom, principal medicinal substances and prescription of Soyangin Bisoohan-Pyohan disease. 2. Methods : I have examined the changes of the recognition of symptom and the history of the development of prescription by comparing the exterior syndrome of Soyangin, related prescription and principal medicinal substances quoted in "DongYi-Soose-Bowon" with past original texts and "DongYi Bogam". 3. Results and Conclusion : Lee Je-Ma adopted most of the exterior syndrome of Soyangin from Zhang Zhong-jung's "Shanghanlun". But he adopted only a few medicinal substances for prescription and most of prescriptions written after the Song period. The prescriptions for Soyangin Bisoohan-Pyohan disease are fundamentally composed of medicinal substances to lower yinqi and to eliminate the heat of thoracic part caused acording to the degree of symptom and medicinal substances to strengthen damaged yinqi are added to the prescriptions.

  • Investigating the past and present literatures of west and east about pediatric constitutions and Dong-Eu-Su Se-Bo-Won $\ll$東醫壽世保元$\gg$, we obtained such conclusions : 1. In ancient literatures about pediatric constitution, physiologic and histologic characteristics are considered as pediatirc constitution. 'Pure Yang(純陽)' 'Yang is overabundant, Yin is insufficient(陽有餘陰不足)' are used for definitions of pediatric characteristics. 2. In recent literatures about pediatric constitution, adding to definitions of ancient constitution, more scientific, objective and rational criterion are intrduced. 3. In Sa-Sang(四象), limits of pediatrics is defined to children below sixteen years. 'Yu(幼)' in Dong-Eu-Su-Se-Bo-Won $\ll$東醫壽世保元$\gg$. 4. In Dong-Eu-Su-Se-Bo-Won $\ll$東醫壽世保元$\gg$, the writings about 'So-Yang-In(少陽人)' is most, those about 'So-Eum-In(少陰人)', 'Tae-Eum-In(太陰人)' and 'Tae-Yang-In(太陽人)' are in sequence. 5. In conclusion, Je-Ma Yi(李濟馬), inventor of Sa-Sang(四象), consider that pediatric constitutions are not different from those of adult.

  • 1. Background and Purpose: I intended to understand the medical and pharmacological theory of Taeumin, through a study of the process through which Lee Je-ma discovered the Interior-Overheated-Disease of Taeumin and created the prescriptions for it. 2. Methods: I studied and analized the change in the medical and pharmacological theory, through a historical study on the quotations and prescriptions of "DongYi Soose Bowon". 3. Results: Through a literature study I could find that in the existing Oriental Medicine before Lee Je-ma, the difference of the Liver Febrile Disease of Taeumin and the Stomach Febrile Disease of Soyangin were recognized, and the prescriptions of the two diseases were a little distinguished, but the medical theories of those were not distinguished at all. And I found that the Liver Febrile Disease of Taeumin shows the pain in the eyes and the throat, and drying of the nose due to interior dry and heat, so it is different from the Stomach Febrile Disease of Soyangin that shows irritation of fever, headache, and the trouble in passing feces and urine. Also I could know that Radix Puerariae, Rhizoma Cimicifugae, Rhizoma Ligustici, Radix Angelicae Dahuricae, and Radix et Rhizoma Rhei are Taeumin's medicines because these medicines had been used for Taeumin's syndromes, and that Radix Scutellariae, Radix Platycodi, Semen Raphani, and Fructus Gleditsiae are Tae-Eum-In's medicines because these medicines are known as acting for lung.
