For the development of new anticonvulsive agents, GABAmimetics such as nipecotic acid, isonipecotic acid, ${\gamma}-aminobutyric$ acid (GABA), ${\gamma}-vinyl$ GABA (vigabatrin) and valproic acid were covalently coupled through an ester bond by a two-carbon linker chain as potential prodrugs and evaluated for their anticonvulsive activities.

Apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is rare disease and a variant of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with prevalence of 1 in 500 in the general population. Apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with apical aneurysm and intramural thrombus is extremely rare. We report a case of apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy progressing to left ventricular apical aneurysm with intramural thrombus diagnosed by contrast echocardiography.

A 14-year old boy was admitted with stuporous mentality. CT scan, MRI and cerebral angiogram revealed SAH and a giant aneurysm of right middle cerebral artery($4{\times}5{\times}5.3cm$). To minimize surgical risk, endovascular treatment was done with MDS(mechanical detachable system)-spiral coil. Follow up MRI showed intraluminal thrombus formation of the aneurysm.

Although amiodarone is generally regarded as safe with a low incidence of associated arrhythmias, torsade de pointes (TdP) has been observed usually in the presence of predisposing factors. We report a case of amiodarone-induced TdP after long-term administration of alow dose of oral amiodarone in the absence of predisposing factors.

Nontuberculous mycobacterial infections are a rare, but clinically important cause of infections in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients. This is typically suspected when a patient does not respond to treatment with the usual antibiotics. We describe here a case of $Mycobacterium$ $abscessus$ exit site infection with abdominal wall abscess formation that was associated with CAPD, which required peritoneal catheter removal, surgical debridement of the abscess and long term antibiotic therapy.

Twenty two polyphenols containing ten gallotannins, seven ellagitannins, two phenylpropanoids and three stilbenes isolated from the higher plants were tested inhibitory effects on melanogenesis in cultured B-16 mouse melanoma cell lines. Among the tested samples, 1-desgalloyleugeniin exhibited the most potent inhibitory effect on melanogenesis in cultured cell lines.

To develop a poloxamer-based solid suppository with poloxamer and polyethylene glycol mixtures, the melting point of various formulations composed of P 188 and propylene glycol were investigated. The dissolution and antitumor activity of clotrimazole delivered by the poloxamer-based suppository were performed. The poloxamer mixtures composed of P 188 and propylene glycol were homogeneous phases. P 188 greatly affected the melting point of poloxamer mixtures. In particular, the poloxamer mixture [P 188/propylene glycol(70/30%)] with the melting point of about $32^{\circ}C$ was a solid form at room temperature and instantly melted at physiological temperature. Furthermore, the ratio of P 188/propylene glycol greatly affected the dissolution rates of clotrimazole from poloxamer-based suppository. It gave the more effective anti-tumor activity than conventional PEG-based suppository due to fast dissolution. Thus, the clotrimazole-Ioaded poloxamer-based solid suppository was an effective rectal dosage form with anti-tumor activity.

In this study, high frequency oscillatory ventilator was designed and constructed. Using designed by phase-lock loop system, in order to accurately and easily treat both the outlet volume and rpm. A system has been designed and is being evaluated using CD4046A PLL IC. We use this PLL IC for the purpose of motor controls. The device consists of PLL system, pumping mechanism, piston, cylinder, and special crank shaft are required. This system characteristics were as follows : 1) Frequency : 20-1800rpm. 2) Outlet air volume : 1-50cc.

To develop an whitening cosmetics, we isolated the melanogenesis inhibitors from the unripe fruits of Poncirus trifoliata (Rutaceae). Isolated compounds were identified as poncirin(l), naringin(2), bis(2-methylheptyl)phthalate(3), avenalumic acid methyl ester(4) by comparison of physical and spectral data with those reported in the literature. Among the isolated compounds, bis(2-methylheptyl)phthalate showed most potent inhibitory effect on the melanogenesis in cultured B-16 mouse melanoma cell lines$(IC_{50},\;36.8\;{\mu}M)$ compared with kojic acid$(IC_{50},\;150\;{\mu}M)$.

Talus tuberculosis is a rare disease, even in an endemic tuberculosis area. In reviews of the worldwide literature, only 18 cases of talus tuberculosis have been reported. Recently, we experienced a case of a 70-year-old polycythemia vera patient with right metatarsopharyngeal joint pain for 2 months duration who was diagnosed with talus tuberculosis with prostate involvement. Tuberculosis should be considered as one of the causes of monoarticulitis, especially in countries, where the disease is endemic. Additionally, we highly recommend taking a biopsy of the site of suspected infection because an early diagnosis is the key to successful treatment.
