Er과 Yb이 동시 도핑된 YCa4B3O10의 광 특성 (Optical Characteristics of Er and Yb co-doped YCa4B3O10)

  • Optical characteristics of $YCOB(YCa_4B_3O_{10})$, known as a crystal of self frequency doubling, was investigated when Yb and Er ions were co-doped 20 % and 2 %, respectively. The absorption cross section of Er,Yb:YCOB crystal at $1.0\;{\mu}m$ was larger than that of Yb:YCOB, which means that the former was profitable for more energy absorption than the latter. The fluorescent lifetime at $1.5\;{\mu}m$ was measured to be 1.27 ms at room temperature, and lengthened to 1.54 ms and 1.62 ms at low temperatures of 77 K and 6 K, respectively. The line widths of fluorescent spectrum at $1.5\;{\mu}m$ were getting narrower as lowering temperature. However, we didn't observe a temperature dependent peak wavelength shift.

Nd:YCOB 단결정 성장과 RGB 레이저 소자 제조 (Crystal Growth of Nd;YCOB and Fabrication of RGB Laser Device)

  • Nd/sub 0.05/Y/sub 0.95/Ca₄O(BO₃)₃(Nd:YCOB) single crystals were grown by the Czochralski method using a iridium crucible under N₂ atmosphere. Optimum growth parameters to get high quality of single crystals were 1.5∼2 mm/hr of growth rate and 10∼20 rpm of rotation rate. The grown crystals were transparent with light purple color and well-developed in cleavage planes. The crystal structure of Nd;YCOB were identified to monoclinic by XRD method. Crystal defects acting as light scattering centers, such as micro-pores, secondary phases, inclusions and cracks were not observed under the He-Ne laser illuminations. Three red, green, blue laser devices for the RGB laser oscillations were designed and then fabricated from the grown Nd:YCOB crystals according to the phase-matching angles of negative type-I which were φ=16.40°, 33.95° and θ=22.59° with the flatness of λ/6 at least, respectively.

  • Czocharlski pulling method에 의해 성장된 새로운 광학결정 YCOB($YCa_4O(BO_3)_3$)의 파장에 따른 위상 정합 조건을 제시하였으며, Nd:YAG 레이저의 1064nm의 출력을 기본파로 하였을 때 제2조화파 발생 효율을 조사하였다. 또한 $Yb^{3+}$이온과 $Nd^{3+}$ 이온이 도핑된 YCOB의 제2조화파 발생효율을 조사하여 희토류 이온 도핑에 따른 비선형성의 변화를 조사하였다.

  • 융액인상법으로 질소분위기 하에서 $Yb^{3+}$ 이온이 20at% 고용된 $Yb:YCa_4O(BO_3)_3$ (Yb:YCOB) 단결정을 이리듐 도가니를 사용하여 성장시켰다. 양질의 단결정을 성장시키기 위한 인상속도와 회전속도는 각각 1.5∼2 mm/h와 10∼20 rpm이었다. 분광물성 측정 결과, 흡수단이 236 nm에 있었으며, 전형적인 $Yb^{3+}$ 이온의 흡수 스펙트럼이 관찰되었다. Yb:YCOB의 열팽창계수는 320∼650 K의 측정범위에서 결정학적 축 a, b 그리고 c에 대해 12.1×$10^{-6}$ /K, 5.9${\times}10^{-6}$/K, 12.9${\times}10^{-6}$이었다. 비열은 330 K에서 0.162 $cal/g{\cdot}K$이었다.

  • Single crystals of Yttrium Calcium Oxyborate (YCOB) doped with different concentrations of Er3+ and Yb3+ ions were growth by Czochralski method. High qualities of crystals in morphology and transparency were obtained . Analysis on crystal structure and lattice parameters were performed by X-ray diffraction method. It was found that congruent melting composition is YCA4.2O1.2(BO3)3. Absorption and fluorescence properties of grown crystals were also reported.

  • The interest in the use of borate crystals in ultraviolet(UV) nonlinear optics(NLO) has increased because all solid-stste UV lasers obtained with NLO are in highly demand. Much effort has been spent on developing borates series, such as{{{{ { beta -BaB }_{2 } {O }_{4 }(BBO), {LiB }_{ 3}{O }_{5 }(LBO)}}}} and{{{{{ CsKiB}_{6 }{O }_{10 }(CLBO)}}}} in this decade. Recently another new borate crystals, {{{{{ YCa}_{4 }O({BO }_{3 })_{3}}}}} and{{{{{Gd }_{x }{Y }_{1-x }{Ca }_{4 }O({BO }_{ 3})({Gd }_{x }{Y }_{1-x }COB)}}}} have been developed by the present authors. Here, the growth and NLO properties of YCOB and {{{{ {Gd }_{ x} {Y }_{ 1-x} }}}}CO B crystal are reported and their properties discussed in relation to those of other nonlinear optical crystals, such as LBO.
