Nd1+XBa2-XCu3O7-δ Bulk Superconductor by Zone-melt Process

  • Two kinds of $Nd_{1+X}Ba_{2-X}Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$, the sintering samples and zone melting samples, were heat-treated under pure Ar at 950$^{circ}C$. The substitution of Nd ion for Ba ion in the $Nd_{1+X}Ba_{2-X}Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ before and after the heat treatment was investigated by XRD. In order to confirm the effects of the heat treatment, the Tc and Jc of samples with/without the heat treatment under Ar were comparatively studied. $Nd_{1+X}Ba_{2-X}Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ samples were oxygenated under pure oxygen at $300^{circ}C$. From the XRD pattern it was found that the sample with x<0.4 was transferred from tetragonal phase to orthorhombic phase after the oxygenation, while the sample with x>0.4 did not show the phase transition even after a long time oxygenation. Therefore, the low oxygen partial pressure (Ar+1 % O$_2$) was used for the ambient atmosphere of the zone-melting samples, which could reduce the melting temperature and depress the substitution of Nd for Ba. After the improvement in the zone-melting process, the Jc value was increased to 2 x $10^4$A/$cm^2$ (0 T, 78 K). The particle orientation and the structure of zone-melted NdBaCuO were studied by the XRD and SEM analysis.

  • High-Tc superconductor thick films of YBa2Cu$\chi$O7-y (X=3, 3.5, 4) of which thickness varies from 100 $\mu\textrm{m}$ to 200 $\mu\textrm{m}$ were successfully prepared by plasma spraying method, and the characteristics of thick film depending on copper content and heat treatment conditions were investigated. Regardless of heat-treated temperature, the specimens with X=3 were composed of YBa2Cu$\chi$O7-y, Y2BaCuO5 and BaCuO3 phases. The specimens with X=4, however, were composed of YBa2Cu$\chi$O7-y phase at all heat treatment conditions. The specimens with X=4 composition showed the best superconducting characteristics after heat treatment at 925$^{\circ}C$, and the superconducting transition temperature with zero resistivity (Tc,zero) was 87K. The thick film lost superconductivity when the specimens were heat-treated at 950$^{\circ}C$ because of interdiffusion between superconductor elements and bond coating elements and Y2BaCuO5 phase was found was found to be main phase at the interface.

  • Sm-doped YBCO high $T_c$ superconductor was directionally grown by zone melt growth process in air atmosphere. Cylindrical green rods of $(Sm/Y)_{1.8}Ba_{2.4}Cu_{3.4}O_{7-x}$[(Sm/Y)1.8] oxides were fabricated by cold isostatic pressing (CIP) method using rubber mold. Based on the variation of melting temperature and growth rate, the microstructure and superconducting properties were systematically measured by using optical micrographs, TEM and SQUID magnetometer. In this study optimum melting temperature and growth rate were $1085^{\circ}C$ and 3.5 mm/hr respectively. Nonsuperconducting $(Sm/Y)_2BaCuO_5$ inclusions of (Sm/Y)1.8 superconductor were uniformly distributed within the superconducting (Sm/Y) $Ba_2Cu_3O^{7-x}$ matrix. The directionally melt-textured (Sm/Y)1.8 superconductor showed an onset $T_c$ $\geq$ 90K and sharp superconducting transition.

  • The concentrations of Cu(II), Y(III) and Ba(II) ionic species in aqueous solution due to the formation of Cu2+-oxalate-complex have been theoretically calculated with respect to pH and their solubility diagrams could be obtained. It was verified from the calculation that the excess of Cu2+ and Ba2+ should be added in order to obtain oxalate coprecipitates with the molar ratio of Y : Ba : Cu=1 : 2 : 3. The exact amount of excess species has been calculated with respect to the initial concentrations of metal ions and pH.

  • YBa$_{2}$ Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-{\delta}}$의 Ba대신 K를 일부 치환시킨 Y(Ba$_{1-x}$ , $K_{x}$ )$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{y}$ 에서 x의 값에 따른 초전도 특성의 변화를 연구하였다. XRD 무늬와 Infrared의 투과율로써 상의 변화를 관측하고 온도에 따른 전기저항의 변화를 측정함으로써 초전도성을 조사하였다. Ba 대신 K의 양이 증가할수록 Y(Ba$_{1-x}$ ,K$_{x}$)$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{y}$ 는 다중상이 되어 갔고 전기저항이 0이 되는 T$_{c}$는 점점 더 낮은 온도로 이동하다가 x.geq.0.6이 되면 초전도 특성을 잃었다.을 잃었다..

  • The $YBa_2Cu_{3-y}Ag_yO_{7-x}$ high-temperature superconductors were prepared by pyrophoric synthetic method from $Y_2O_3$, $BaCO_3$, CuO, and $AgNO_3$ powders. When we were partially substituted Ag for Cu in $YBa_3Cu_3O_{7-x}$, the superconducting properties of $YBa_2Cu_{3-y}Ag_yO_{7-x}$ were investigated with X-ray diffractometer, resisitivity measuring equipment, SEM, and Vickers Hardness. The Tc,zero of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ was 91K, the density was $5.2g/cm^3$, and the hardness was $590kg/mm^2$. When Ag was substituted below y=0.15, electrical property of $YBa_2Cu_{3-y}Ag_yO_{7-x}$ did not change but microstructure, density, and hardness were enhanced.

  • The conditions of zone-melting method such as a sample travel speed in a furnace, content of Nd422, control of melting temperature, and heat-treatment with/without Ar gas for $NdBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$ superconductor was optimized, As a results, a $NdBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$ sample with a surface area of $25mm^{2}$ showed a good superconducting properties when its travel speed was 6 mm/h, The improvement of superconductivity added with 10~20 wt% of Nd422 phase increasing pinning effect was also shown. The critical current density, $J_{c}$ was remarkable affected by the condition of heat-treatment temperature of $NdBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$superconductor with/without Ar ambient gas.

Growth of Superconductor YBa2Cu3O7-x Single Crystal by Flux Method (Flux법에 의한 초전도체 YBa2Cu3O7-x 단결정 육성)

  • YBa2Cu3O7-x(=YBCO) single crystals were grown by flux method and the growing process of crystals was investigated. YBCO and 3BaO-7CuO composition powders were mixed by the ratio of 25 : 75(wt%), and the mixtures were melted at 105$0^{\circ}C$ in a electric furnace with no temperature-gradient. Then the melt was cooled at a rate 2-1$0^{\circ}C$/h in the above furnace. YBCO single crystal plate with average size of $1.5\times$2.0$\times$0.1㎣ were obtained in the cavities between crucible and solidified ingot, and the single crystals were oriented to <001> direction. The ingots of flux parts were analyzed by XRD and EDS for the purpose of presuming the growing process of the crystals. It was assumed that the divorced eutectic reaction, by which YBCO crystals were grown first and then BaCuO2 and CuO crystals, occured in the case of cooling rate faster than 2$^{\circ}C$/h. When the cooling rate was 2$^{\circ}C$/h, it was assumed that quasi-equilibrium eutectic reaction occured, so that YBCO, BaCuO2 and CuO crystals were grown at the same time.

  • We have fabricated an in-plane aligned a-axis oriented YBa2Cu3O7-x (a-YBCO) thin film on a LaSrGaO4(100) substrate with a PrBa2Cu3O7-x(PBCO) template layer by two step plused laser deposition using 308 nm XeCl excimer laser. A YBCO layer and PBCO layer grown at low temperatures were used as template layers. We have investigated the effect of the deposition temperature of template layers on the superconducting and struc-tural properties of in-plane aligned a-YBCO thin films. An optimal deposition temperature of the PBCO template layers was 630. In-plane aligned a-YBCO thin films showed an anisotropy ratio in resistivity of 11.5 and a zero resistance temperature of 88 K.
