  • Nominally undoped (intrinsic) ZnO thin films were deposited by magnetron sputtering system with utilization of substrate bias on silicon at $450^{\circ}C$. Oxygen gas was selected as sputtering gas. The deposited thins were evaluated with X-ray diffraction (XRD) for their microstructure analysis and Hall effect in Van der Pauw configuration for their electrical property. The XRD shows that the magnitude and polarity of substrate bias significantly influence the microstructure and electrical properties.

  • Very often, whether accidentally or intentionally set fire, according as building are elevated, varied or complicated day by day. It is of primary importance that we have a treatment of fire damaged structure. In general, strength and elasticity modulus of heated concrete are reduced. Product background of cement, sand and coarse aggregate differ from country to country, so that thermal behaviour of concrete make a difference in high temperature. To cope with demand, this paper is a study on relation to microstructure and strength reduction. In consequence of experiments, concrete exposed to high temperature are estimating the reduction of mechanical properties in comparison with microstructure characteristics which are abtained from the SEM/EDX, XRD and DSC-TG analysis of heated specimens under various temperature.

  • The objective of this paper is to compare the surface features of two kinds of nano-porous activated carbon fiber (NPACF) treated with potassium and the variation of their properties by phosphoric acid pre-treatment. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns indicate that NPACF containing potassium species show better performance for potassium and potassium salts by pre-treatment with phosphoric acid. In order to present the causes of the differences in surface properties and specific surface area after the samples were treated with phosphoric acid, pore structure and surface morphology are investigated by adsorption analysis and SEM. For the chemical composition microanalysis for potassium loading of the NPACF pre-treated with phosphoric acid, samples were analyzed by EDX. Finally, the type and quality of oxygen groups are determined from the method proposed by Boehm.

  • Parent glasses for the experiments were prepared to be ratio of Li2O : Al2O3 : SiO2=4.5 : 25 : 70.5 as basic components, and TiO2 and ZrO2 in the mixing ratio of 1 : 1 were added as the nucleating agents, whose contents were increased in each sample. DTA, XRD, SEM, IR were observed, and thermal expansion and transmissivities were measured for the crystallized samples under the controlled heat-treatments. The transformation temperatures and the dilatometric softening temperatures in thermal expansion curves, and also the exothermic peaks in differential thermo-analytical curves were shifted to lower temperature. The crystal phase deposited through the heat-treatment was identified as ${\beta}$-quartz solid solution with XRD and IR analysis. The crystalline phases in oopactified samples were ${\beta}$-spodumene coexiting with ${\beta}$-quartz solid solution. The samples having more than 3% nucleating agents were transparent. The crystallized grain sizes were ranged 0.05 to 0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$. The crystallized transparent samples were exceeded 85% in the transmissivity.

  • In this study, we prepared graphene by using the modified Hummers-Offeman method and then introduced the metals (Pt, Pd and Fe) for dispersion on the surface of the graphene for synthesis of metal-graphene composites. The characterization of the prepared graphene and metal-graphene composites was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). According to the results, it can be observed that the prepared graphene consists of thin stacked flakes of shapes having a well-defined multilayered structure at the edge. And the metal particles are dispersed uniformly on the surface of the graphene with an average particle size of 20 nm.

  • We tried to develope a desulfurization sorbent using eggshell for recycling, practicability, and economic development. The calcination character of the eggshell was examined by thermal gravimetric analysis and qualitative-quantitative character by X-ray diffractometer(XRD) and scanning electron microscope(SEM). The calcination was occurred easily in the case of eggshell and its form was changed from calcite($CaCO_3$) to lime(CaO). The grain and pore sizes of the calcined sample after base-treatment were larger and more crystallic. The adsorption ability of the eggshell was two- to six-times in the calcination temperature more than in the grain size. Therefore, the eggshell was thought to be usable as the desulfurization sorbent.

  • The effects of various bath conditions such as surfactant concentration, bath pH, bath temperature, agitation of bath; as well as pulse parameters such as cathodic current density, pulse duty cycle and frequency, on the grain size, surface finish, and appearance of the tin plated coatings have been investigated. The plating bath under investigation is an aqueous acidic solution composed of a mixture of $SnSO_4$, $H_2SO_4$, and a surfactant. The bath conductivity and pH are measured by a glass pH electrode. The microstructure of the coatings produced is characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and surface profilometry. XRD analysis shows that the deposits consist of tetragonal ${\beta}$-Sn crystal structure irrespective of plating conditions. The mechanism involved in the morphology evolution in response to various parameters and conditions has also been discussed.

  • Nitrided compound layer and diffusion layer structure were observed by SEM. The compound layer and the constituent of nitrided surface of STS 304, STS 316, STS 410 and SACM 645 steel were analysed using EMPA and XRD respectively. The depth of nitriding layer that is obtained from similar nitriding condition decrease in the order of SACM 645 > STS 410 > STS 316 > STS 304. Result of phase transformation of the nitrided at $550^{\circ}C$ by XRD analysis were as follows; The austenitic stainless steel was mainly consist of $Cr_2N$ accompanying with $Fe_4N$ and $Fe_{2-3}N$ phase and martensitic stainless steel was mainly consist of present $Fe_{2-3}N+Cr_2N$ phase, but SACM 645 steel was $Fe_{2-3}N$ phase present only.

  • The catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (methanol. acetaldehyde) has been characterized using the copper phthalocyanine catalyst in a fixed bed flow reactor under atmospheric pressure. The catalytic activity for pretreatment conditions was examined by this reaction system. The catalytic activity was ordered as follows: metal free-PC<Cu ($\alpha$)-PC<Cu ($\beta$)-PC The formaldehyde, carbon monoxide as a partial oxidation product of methanol and acetaldehyde over Cu ($\alpha$)-PC catalyst were detected and the conversions of methanol and acetaldehyde were accomplished above 95% over Cu ($\alpha$) -PC, Cu ($\beta$) - PC catalyst at 35$0^{\circ}C$. The pretreated metal free -PC, Cu($\alpha$)-PC, Cu($\beta$)-PC catalysts have been characterised by TGA, EA and XRD analysis. The catalytic activity pretreated with air and $CH_3$OH mixture (P-4) or air only (P-5) was very excellent. XRD and EA results showed that Cu($\alpha$)-PC, Cu($\beta$)-PC were destroyed an(1 new metal oxide such as CuO were formed.

  • Carbon nitride films were grown on Si (100) substrate by a laser-electric discharge method with/without a magnetic field assistance. The magnetic field leads to vapor plume plasma expending upon the ambient arc discharge plasma area. Influence of the magnetic field has resulted in increased of a crystallite size int he films due to bombardment (heating) of Si substrates by energetic carbon and nitrogen species generated during cyclotron motion of electrons in the discharge zone. The surface morphology of the films with a deposition time of 2 hours was studied using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In order to determine the structural crystalline parameters, X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to analysis the grown films.
