  • The XML is emerging as standard language for data exchange on the Web. Therefore a demand of XML Schema(W3C MLL Schema Spec.) that verifies XML document becomes increasing. However, XML Schema has a weak point for design because of its complication despiteof various data and abundant expressiveness. This paper shows a simple way of design for XML Schema using a fundamental means for database design, the Entity-Relationship model. The conversion from the Entity-Relationship model to XML Schema can not be directly on account of discordance between the two models. So we present some algorithms to generate XML Schema from the Entity-Relationship model. The algorithms produce XML Schema codes using a hierarchical view representation. An important objective of this automatic generation is to preserve XML Schema's characteristics such as reusability, global and local ability, ability of expansion and various type changes.

  • B2B e-business is an economic transaction formed between companies through various networks including internet. At present, e-business between companies partly applies information distribution between companies, but many enterprises expect that a corporate basic system will be gradually changed into XML basis if web service is earnestly materialized, so they are competing with each other in developing XML DBMS. Existing XML DBMS studies used XML DTD in order to represent the structure of XML document. Such XML DTD defines the expression of a simple type, so there are many difficulties in defining the structure of XML document. To cope with this, in this paper, the author will develop database schema generator utilizing relational database generally used in storing contents of data, on the basis of XML schema selected as a standard of W3C. Also, to store XML data, the author proposed the automatic conversion method of relational database schema that used XML schema.

  • TV-Anytime is an XML-based standard for description of PVR and digital broadcast services. It is referenced by many standards of digital broadcast service for their schemas and delivery protocols of contents guide. Although its readability and extensibility, TV-Anytime has a big problem which generates massive documents due to its text-based description method. Therefore, various encoding algorithms have been proposed to reduce the size of XML documents. This paper proposes efficient metadata encapsulation architecture based on the optimization information generated at server-side to minimize XML documents. Advanced indexing method is also proposed to reduce resources needed to encapsulate indices and to receive metadata with fast and explicit mechanism.

  • XML is rapidly becoming the standard for data representation and exchange, and XML documents are being adopted in various applications. Since the late 1990s, some native XML database management systems(DBMSs) have been developed. More recently, commercial relational DBMS vendors try to incorporate full functionalities of XML into their products, such as Oracle, MS SQL and IBM DB2. In this paper, we implement a well-known RDBMS-based XML data storage and indexing technique, called XPath Accelerator, and tune it in an industry-leading RDBMS. Our contributions are two-folds: 1) an in-depth implementation of the XPath Accelerator technique and 2) its tuning to exploit the advanced query processing techniques of an RDBMS.

  • XML has become a standard for data representation and exchange on the Internet. With a large number of XML documents on the Web, there is an increasing need to automatically process those structurally rich documents for information retrieval, document management, and data mining applications. In this paper, we propose a new method to measure the similarity between XML documents by considering their structures and contents. The similarity of document's structure is found by a simple string matching technique and that of document's contents is found by weights taking into account of the names and positions of elements. The overall algorithm runs in time that is linear in the combined size of the two documents involved in comparison evaluation.

  • The International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) developed S-100 standards as a framework for a variety of data and service for hydrography and a standard research is in process, including a next-generation electronic chart standard, for products and services based on this. The need for standard storage and utilization of navigation routes generated by ECDIS and navigation system using navigation planning features has emerged and a standard research based on S-100 standard has been performed. Route information standard is needed for interoperability among route information generated by a variety of navigation system and requires an examination for the possibility of applicability. In this research, route generation tools and standard-based generation and result of route information using these tools in order to examine the application of route information standards have been executed. In details, first, as a module capable of generating route information, a module that can store values in memory based on route information standards of S-100, second, a module that can store route information in the memory in XML form, third, it includes loading module for route information stored as XML.In this research, we verified normal generation of route information, storage of generated route information and loading functions through developing three modules.

  • In geo-spatial information system building and operation, metadata is one of the crucial factors. Therefore, international and domestic organizations or associations for standardization have developed and distributed geo-based standard metadata to meet public demands. However, because metadata is composed of complicated elements and needs XML storage and management, individual organization which implement and operate practical application system is inclined to define and use its own metadata specifications. In this study, metadata extraction program, that metadata elements are directly extracted from geo-based file formats was developed to easily utilize standard metadata such as ISO/TC 19115, TTAS.KO-10.0139 and TTAS.IS-19115, and those elements are processed into XML. Furthermore, geo-based images sets are applied to another metadata of ISO/TC 19115-2. As well, metadata transformation is needed due to inconsistent or non-corresponding definition among standard metadata; in this program, transformation modules are also implemented to interoperable uses between standard metadata specifications. Widely used data formats are dealt with in this program, but extension for other formats and other metadata specifications is possible, and it is expected that availability of standard metadata is increased, through this kind of development.

  • As the secure distribution and sharing of information over the World Wide Web becomes increasingly important, the needs for flexible and efficient support of access control systems naturally arise. Since the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is emerging as the de-facto standard format of the Internet era for storing and exchanging information, there have been recently, many proposals to extend the XML model to incorporate security aspects. To the lesser or greater extent, however, such proposals neglect the fact that the data for XML documents will most likely reside in relational databases, and consequently do not utilize various security models proposed for and implemented in relational databases. In this paper, we take a rather different approach. We explore how to support security models for XML documents by leveraging on techniques developed for relational databases considering object perspective. More specifically, in our approach, (1) Users make XML queries against the given XML view/schema, (2) Access controls for XML data are specified in the relational database, (3) Data are stored in relational databases, (4) Security check and query evaluation are also done in relational databases, and (5) Controlling access control is executed considering XML tree levels

  • Digital documentation is now becoming a must throughout a building process including design, construction, inspection, procurement and even facility management. The Internet is a backbone of such process, and web-based information exchange is the standard among other mainstream technologies. The current information management techniques, however, is heavily dependant on the server-side processing, which naturally results in the overload of the overall system. This paper proposes an XML-based approach in order to resolve such problems. A VE system was developed to demonstrate the efficiency of the XML solution, in term of efficient VE data management and fast decision making. also in this paper suggests 1) introduce XML based DBMS to improve data management efficiency and 2) introduce Mobile Computing to improve data accessibilities on sites.

  • In the past composers used to make music with classical instruments such as piano, violin, guitar, flute, drums, and other well-known tools. With the advent of digital technology many software programs were developed which allow musicians to compose tunes using personal computers. Many file formats were introduced such as NIFF, SMDL and MIDI but none besides MIDI has been successful. Recently MusicXML has emerged as a de-facto standard for the computer representation of music. This paper presents a brief description of the structure of the MusicXML format and describes the development of a music score editor based on MusicXML. We implemented a MusicXML-based score editing software using C# language and a feasibility test showed the efficiency of our proposed method.
