  • To elucidate the dependability of seed variability determination by tetrazolium, 15 tree species were checked. For the comparison of potential germinability for these tree seeds, x-ray photography and routine germination test in a incubator were implemented. Though there were considerable differences of seed variability in percentage between germination test and tetrazolium test, the judgement by tetrazolium test and x-ray test gave similar results. These findings indicated that tetrazolium test is a reliable method if treated and inferred properly. Solution of 0.25 percent tetrazolium could give a complete colour reaction as well as 0.50 percent solution.

  • In this paper, for any fixed integer $n\;>\;m\;{\geq}\;1$, we investigate the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability of the following quadratic functional equation $f(nx+my)\;+\;f(nx-my)\;=\;mn[f(x+y)\;+\;f(x-y)]\;+\;2(n-m)[nf(x)\;-\;mf(y)]$ in ${p}$-Banach spaces, where $0\;<\;p\;{\leq}\;1$. And we prove the same stability of the above functional equation in 2-Banach spaces.

  • We shall consider the estimation for the parameter and the right tail probability in a general exponential distribution. We also shall consider the estimation of the reliability P(X < Y ) and the skewness trends of the density function of the ratio X=(X+Y) for two independent general exponential variables each having different shape parameters and known scale parameter. We then shall consider the estimation of the failure rate average and the hazard function for a general exponential variable having the density function with the unknown shape and known scale parameters, and for a bivariate density induced by the general exponential density.

  • Let R be a 2-torsion free prime ring, U a nonzero Lie ideal of R such that $u^2\;{\in}\;U$ for all $u\;{\in}\;U$. In the present paper, it is proved that if d is a nonzero derivation and [[d(u), u], u] = 0 for all $u\;{\in}\;U$, then $U\;{\subseteq}\;Z(R)$. Moreover, suppose that $d_1$, $d_2$, $d_3$ are nonzero derivations of R such that $d_3(y)d_1(x)\;=\;d_2(x)d_3(y)$ for all x, $y\;{\in}\;U$, then $U\;{\subseteq}\;Z(R)$. Finally, some examples are given to demonstrate that the restrictions imposed on the hypothesis of the above results are not superfluous.

  • In this paper, we study the following extended generalized variational inequality problem, introduced by Noor (for short, EGVI) : Given a closed convex subset K in q-uniformly smooth Banach space B, three nonlinear mappings T : $K\;{\rightarrow}\;B^*$, g : $K\;{\rightarrow}\;K$, h : $K\;{\rightarrow}\;K$ and a vector ${\xi}\;{\in}\;B^*$, find $x\;{\in}\;K$, $h(x)\;{\in}\;K$ such that $\xi$, g(y)-h(x)> $\geq$ 0, for all $y\;{\in}\;K$, $g(y)\;{\in}\;K$. [see [2]: M. Aslam Noor, Extended general variational inequalities, Appl. Math. Lett. 22 (2009) 182-186.] By using sunny nonexpansive retraction $Q_K$ and the well-known Banach's fixed point principle, we prove existence results for solutions of (EGVI). Our results extend some recent results from the literature.

  • The present study, aims to investigate the effect of minor Zr and Nb alloying on soft magnetic and electrical properties of Fe86(ZrxNb1-x)7B6Cu1 (x = 1, 0.75, 0.5, 0.25) alloys. The investigated alloys were prepared through the melt spinning process. Within the examined compositional range (Nb up to 5.25at%, respectively), the soft magnetic properties and electrical resistivity of the alloys continuously increase with increasing Nb content. However increasing the Nb content further decreases such properties. We could confirm the influence of ratio of Zr and Nb on grain growth and crystallization fraction during crystallization by using the soft magnetic properties and electrical properties.

  • Let G be the general linear group GL(n,$\mathbb{C}$), $W_0$ the Weyl group of G and W the extended a neWeyl group of G. Then it is well-known that W is a union of the double cosets $W_{0x}W_0$ as x moves over the set of dominant weights of W. It is also known that each double coset $W_{0x}W_0$ contains a unique element $m_x$ of the shortest length. These shortest length elements belong to what are called the canonical left cells. However, it is still an open problem to find the canonical left cell containing a given $m_x$. One of the mai purposes of this paper is to introduce a new approach to attack this question. In particular, we will present a conjecture which explicitly describes the canonical left cells containing an element $m_x$. We will show that our conjecture is true for some specific types of $m_x$.

  • All-polycrystalline Cd$_1$-xZnxS/CdTe solar cells have been fabricated by coating CdTe slurries with 4.5 wt% of CdCl$_2$on the sintered Cd$_1$-xZnxS films and by sintering CdTe layer at 6$25^{\circ}C$ for lh in nitrogen atmosphere. Solar efficiency of the sintered Cd$_1$-xZnxS/CdTe solar cells increases as the Zn content increases up to x=0.06 and then decreases with further increase in the Zn content. A solar efficiency of 12.5% under a solar intensity of 76mW/$\textrm{cm}^2$ was observed in a Cd 0.94 Zn0.06S/CdTe solar cell. By optimizing the amount of CdCl$_2$in the slurry and sintering conditions, it is possible to produce Cd$_1$-xZnxS/CdTe solar cells with efficiency higher than 12%.

  • At Rutherford Appleton Laboratory(RAL), a high-repetition rate ps exicmer laser-plasma x-ray source has been developed for x-ray lithography with a calibrated output of up to 1 watt X-ray average power at 1nm wavelength. In a previous reports this compact x-ray source was used to print 0.18$\mu$m lines for a gate on Si-FET devices and deep three-dimensional structure with 100$\mu$m length, 25$\mu$m width, and 48 $\mu$m depth for a nanotechnology. The deep X-ray lithography is called as LIGA thchnology and getting a wide interest as a new technology for a nano-device. In this report all this works are summarized.

  • New cuprates with the nominal composition $(Pb_{0.75}Sn_{0.25})Sr_2(Ca_{1-x}Lu_x)Cu_2O_z(x=0.4{\sim}1.0)$ have been synthesized. These materials exhibit superconducting properties for 0.4 $\leq$ x $\leq$ 0.7. It is also observed that the superconductivity of the as-prepared sample is enhanced by post-annealing at high temperature followed by quenching. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the c lattice parameter decreases as x increases whereas the a lattice parameter is nearly independent of the value of x for both the as-prepared and the post-treated samples. The thermoelectric power measurements indicate that the post-heat-treatments result in an increase in the hole carrier density which account for the observed increase of $T_c$. Bulk superconductivity with a $T_c$ value of 60 K is observed in this system.
