일반화된 이차원 상관 분광학: 원리 및 응용 (Generalized Two-dimensional (2D) Correlation Spectroscopy: Principle and Its Applications)

  • 일반화된 이차원 상관 분광학은 모든 분자 분광학 즉, 적외선 (infrared, IR), 근적외선 (near-infrared, NIR), 라만 (Raman) 및 형광 (fluorescence) 분광학뿐만 아니라 X-ray 회절, X-ray 흡수 분광학 (XAS), 크로마토그래피 (chromatography) 등에 적용되어 시간뿐만 아니라 온도, 압력, 농도, 조성과 같은 다른 물리적 변화인 외부 섭동 (perturbation) 아래에서 얻은 스펙트럼 분석의 새로운 분광학으로 다양한 분야의 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 또한 같은 외부 섭동 아래에서 얻은 완전히 다른 두 스펙트럼의 2D hetero-spectral correlation analysis가 가능하므로 다양한 분야 즉, 생체 물질, 고분자, 나노입자 등의 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 이런 다양한 분야의 응용성 때문에 ?일반??이차원 상관 분광학??물리, 분석, 고분자, 나노물질 및 생화학 연구에 새로운 방향을 제시할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 바이오 나노기술 연구에 상승 효과를 제공할 수 있다. 본 논문은 "일반화된 이차원 상관 분광학"의 원리와 그 다양한 응용성을 본 저자들의 연구를 중심으로 소개하고자 한다.

Interfacial Natures and Controlling Morphology of Co Oxide Nanocrystal Structures by Adding Spectator Ni Ions

  • Cobalt oxide nanostructure materials have been prepared by adding several concentrations of spectator Ni ions in solution, and analyzed by electron microscopy, X-day diffraction, calorimetry/thermogravimetric analysis, UV-vis absorption, Raman, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The electron microscopy results show that the morphology of the nanostructures is dramatically altered by changing the concentration of spectator ions. The bulk XRD patterns of $350^{\circ}C$-annealed samples indicate that the structure of the cobalt oxide is all of cubic Fd-3m $Co_3O_4$, and show that the major XRD peaks shift slightly with the concentration of Ni ions. In Raman spectroscopy, we can confirm the XRD data through a more obvious change in peak position, broadness, and intensity. For the un-sputtered samples in the XPS measurement process, the XPS peaks of Co 2p and O 1s for the samples prepared without Ni ions exhibit higher binding energies than those for the sample prepared with Ni ions. Upon $Ar^+$ ion sputtering, we found $Co_3O_4$ reduces to CoO, on the basis of XPS data. Our study could be further applied to controlling morphology and surface oxidation state.

Investigation of a novel on-site U concentration analysis method for UO2 pellets using gamma spectroscopy

  • As the IAEA has applied integrated safeguards and a state level approach to member states, the importance of national inspection has increased. However, the requirements for national inspection for some member states are different from the IAEA safeguards. In particular, the national inspection for the ROK requires on-site U concentration analysis due to a domestic notification. This research proposes an on-site U concentration analysis (OUCA) method for UO2 pellets using gamma spectroscopy to satisfy the domestic notification requirement. The OUCA method calculates the U concentration of UO2 pellets using the measured net X-ray counts and declared 235U enrichment. This research demonstrates the feasibility of the OUCA method using both MCNP simulation and experiment. It simulated and measured the net X-ray counts of different UO2 pellets with different U concentrations and 235U enrichments. The simulated and measured net X-ray counts were fitted to polynomials as a function of U concentration and 235U enrichment. The goodness-of-fit results of both simulation and experiment demonstrated the feasibility of the OUCA method.

A Practical Method to Correct the Saturation Effect in XMCD Spectra

  • I report a simple method to correct the saturation effect in absorption spectra measured in total electron yield (TEY) mode. It does not require additional measurements of the X-ray penetration depth. In order to check the reliability of the method, X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectra for polycrystalline Fe were measured at two different incident angles, and then processed with the method. The two resultant XMCD spectra were identical, and their sum rule analysis produced the ratios of orbital magnetic moment to spin magnetic moment, which were very close to the well-known value.

  • Material degradation is a multibillion-dollar problem which affects all the industries amongst others. The last decades have seen the development of newer and more effective techniques such as Focused-ion beam(FIB), Transmission electron microscopy(TEM), Secondary-ion mass spectroscopy(SIMS), auger electron spectroscopy(AES), X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) , Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS), Photo- stimulated luminescence spectroscopy(PSLS), etc. to study various forms of material degradation. These techniques are now used routinely to obtain information on the chemical state, depth profiling, composition, stress state, etc. to understand the degradation behavior. This paper describes the use of these techniques specifically applied to materials degradation and failure analysis.

X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy: A Complementary Tool for Structural and Electronic Characterization of Solids

  • The purpose of this paper is to show that X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES and EXAFS) is a powerful technique for characterizing both crystalline and amorphous solids from structural (local order) and electronic point of view. The principle of this technique is briefly described by showing the main factors which must be considered for recording and fitting the experimental results. Some non-trivial examples have been selected for demonstrating that XAS spectroscopy is the only technique for bringing a definitive answer as for example: the determination of the local distortion of the $NiO_6$ octahedra in the $Li_{1-z}Ni_{1+z}O_2$ layered oxides and the evidence of the presence of copper pairs in the NASICON-type phosphate $CuZr_2 (PO_4)_3$. Are also reported some significant examples for which XAS spectroscopy is decisive with other characterization methods as (i) Raman spectroscopy for glasses (ii) Mossbauer spectroscopy for $LiNi_{1+z-t}Fe_To_2$ oxides (iii) magnetic measurements for Ce-based intermetallic compounds.

  • X-선 광전자분광법(XPS)과 라더포드 후방산란법(RBS)은 첨가제 분석, 화학구조 규명은 물론 시료 표면 원소의 정성 및 정량, 결합에너지 준위, 수직분포 분석을 통한 동일성 판정 등에 응용할 수 있다. $XeF_2$와 C-F plasma로 표면을 처리한 polyethylene, acrylonitrile butadien rubber, polypropylene, glass, fiber 및 paper를 XPS와 RBS로 분석한 결과 불소원자가 시료의 표면에 침투한 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 표면 원소의 분포가 미처리된 시료의 표면원소 분포와 차이가 있었다.

Investigation of X-ray-induced Defects on Metals and Silicon by Using Coincidence Doppler Broadening Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy

  • The mechanical properties of Al, Ti, Fe, and Cu metals p-type Si, and n-type Si were investigated by using coincidence Doppler broadening (CDB) positron annihilation spectroscopy. The samples in this experiment were irradiated by using X-rays at generating powers for up to 9 kW. The data taken after the irradiation showed all the characteristic features predicted from defects with vacancies. The S parameter values of the metals were generally less than those of semiconductors such as p-type Si and n-type Si. The relationship between n-type Si and p-type Si were more affected when n-type Si rather than p-type Si was irradiated with X-rays.

핵/껍질 구조를 가진 두 종류의 자기 나노입자의 제조와 특성비교 (Preparation and characterization of magnetic nanoparticles with two kinds of core/shell structures)

  • 자기 Fe-Co(C)나노(nano)캡슐과 Fe-Co 나노입자들이 메탄과 혼합기체($H_2$+Ar) 두 종류의 분위기속에서 각각 아크방전으로 제조되었다. 이 두 종류의 초미세 입자들의 특성과 자기적 성질들을 XRD(X-ray Diffraction), Mossbauer 분광, XPS(X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy), TEM(transmission Electron Microscopy), EDS(Energy Disperse Spectroscopy), 화학적 분석, 산소량 측정과 자기 측정 등을 통하여 체계적으로 조사하였다. 메탄기체로부터 분해되어 나온 탄소원소가 미세입자들의 상구조, 자기적 상태 그리고 표면 특성들에 끼치는 효과를 아르곤원소를 사용했을 때와 비교하였다. 두 미세입자에서의 Fe/Co 질량비가 약간 다르게 나타났으며 Fe-Co나노입자의 크기가 Fe-Co(C)나노캡슬보다 약 두배였다. 또한 Fe-Co(C)나노캡슐의 포화자화값이 Fe-Co 나노입자보다 약 8% 높았으며 둘 다 유사한 상구조를 보였다. 핵 표면에 쌓인 껍질들이 매우 얇아 XRD측정으로는 그 존재를 탐지하기 어려웠으나 XPS분석을 통하여 그들이 탄소층과 산소층임을 결론지을 수 있었다.
