  • A digital X-ray system was developed using photo-diode arrays. Images were collected with 1,024x1,024x10 bit resolution and 0.5 sec acquisition time. An4 collected images were processed and restored using computer algorithms. For the normal and the patient, we obtained the digital X-ray images using the developed system.

  • Soft x-ray microscopy provides a unique set of capabilities in-between those of visible light and electron microscopy. It has long been recognized that nature provides a 'water window' spectral region between the K shell x-ray absorption edges of carbon (~290eV) and oxygen (~540eV), where organic materials show strong absorption and phase contrast, while water is relatively non-absorbing. This enables imaging of hydrated biological specimens that are several microns thick with high intrinsic contrast using x-rays with a wavelength of 2.3~4.4nm. Soft X-ray microscopy is therefore well suited to the study of specimens like single biological cells. The most direct advantage of X-ray microscope is their high spatial resolution when compared with visible light microscopes, combined with an ability to image hydrated specimens that are several microns with a minimum of preparation. Our study describes the conceptual design of soft x-ray microscope system based on a laser-based source for biomedical application with high resolution ($\leq$50nm) and short exposure time ($\leq$30sec).

  • Diagnostic X-ray system is general and basic medical equipment to be used in mostly medical organizations, but being bombed of radioactivity is a big weak point when irradiates a X-ray to the human body so that ICRP restricted the radiation exposure tolerance of the human body. In order to reduce being bombed, the many research and development is now advanced. A lots of diagnostic X-ray machines have currently used due to the increase of occurrence efficiency of X-ray and precisely the output control by using the inverter which is a high speed switching semiconductors. For getting the confidence of the X-ray machine, the same radiation occurrence, same evaluation, and same irradiation condition are necessary when evaluates X-ray irradiation. It is the most important part for the accuracy of the test result and the patient safety. This paper has produced the high voltage occurrence system of full-wave rectification method by using the LC resonance inverter, and evaluated the irradiation reproducibility in order to use it in diagnosis of the patient.

  • 일반적으로 사용하고 있는 X-선 검색장치는 대상물의 단면 정보만을 제공하고 있기에 검색 대상체를 식별에 어려움이 있어 이에 대한 개선이 요구되어 왔다. 스테레오 X-ray 시스템은 기존의 검색장치에 라인센서를 추가하여 검색 대상체에 대한 추가적인 정보를 제공함으로써 검색 효율을 높이도록 고안되었다. 본 논문에서는 선행 연구를 통해 개발된 스테레오 X-선 검색장치의 검색 속도를 향상시키기 위하여 정밀제어를 위한 제어부를 설계하고 이를 통해 이동체와 검색기의 스캔 속도를 동기화 하고 대상체의 검색 속도를 개선하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 대형 화물 스캔 장치 및 고속화물 스캔 장치 개발을 위해 활용될 수 있다.

Effect of the amount of battery charge on tube voltage in different hand-held dental x-ray systems

  • Purpose : Hand-held dental x-ray system is a self contained x-ray machine designed to perform intraoral radiography with one or two hands. The issue about its usage as general dental radiography is still in dispute. The aim of the present study was to assess the relationship between the amount of battery charge and the tube voltage in different handheld dental x-ray systems. Materials and Methods : Seven hand-held dental x-ray units were used for the study. Tube voltage was measured with Unfors ThinX RAD (Unfors Instruments AB, Billdal, Sweden) for 3 consecutive exposures at the different amount of battery charge of each unit. The average and the deviation percentage of measured kV from indicated kV of each unit were calculated. Results : Tube voltage of only 1 unit was 70 kV (indicated by manufacturer) and those of the others were 60 kV. Tube voltage deviation percentage from the indicated kV at the fully charged battery was from 2.5% to -5.5% and from -0.8% to -10.0% at the lowest charged battery. Conclusion : Tube voltages of all units decreased as the residual amount of the battery charge decreased. It is suggested that the performance test for hand-held x-ray system should be performed for the minimum residual charged battery as well as the full charged one. Persistent battery charging is suggested to maintain the proper tube voltage of the hand-held portable x-ray system.

  • 의료용 X-선 고전압발생장치는 작동 시 높은 용량의 입력전원이 필요하며, 만약 전원환경이 적합하지 않을 경우 X-선 고전압발생장치를 사용하지 못하거나 불안정한 작동으로 인해 원활한 작동이 불가능해 진다. 전원환경에 따라 제품이 불안정 할 경우 환자 진료에 지장이 생길 수 있는 것을 감안하여 상용전원을 사용하지 않고 의료용 X-선 고전압발생장치를 작동 할 수 있는 전원장치를 배터리를 활용하도록 하였다. 전원회로를 설계한 후 시제품을 제작하여 본 논문에 제시된 방법에 따라 상용전원과 배터리 전원을 각각 비교하여 의료용 X-선 고전압발생장치가 입력전원방식에 따라 어떤 특성과 효율을 가지고 있는지 확인하였다.

신개념 치과용 X-선 영상장치 소개 - 강내형 X-선 튜브 (Introduction of Dental X-ray Imaging with New Concept - intra Oral x-ray Tube)

  • 구내 치근단 촬영을 위한 수 많은 영상 장치가 활발히 연구되고 있으나, 현재까지의 X 선 장치는 강내형 센서 기반의 촬영 장치를 사용함으로서 환자의 고통, 피폭선량 등 많은 문제점이 있어왔다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 여러 문제점들을 해결할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 이 분야에 새로운 변화를 가져올 수 있는 신개념의 치근단 촬영장치인 강내형 X-선 튜브를 사용한 치과용 영상 시스템을 소개한다. 이 신개념 치근단 X 선 촬영 시스템은 초소형 열전자 또는 냉전자 기반의 초소형 X-선 튜브, CMOS 기반의 검출기 및 이에 상응하는 자동 위치제어 및 시스템 제어장치를 포함한 몸체 부분으로 구성된다. 제안한 신개념 촬영장치의 가능성을 알아보기 위하여 XOFT사의 초소형 X-선 튜브를 이용하여 시스템을 구축하였으며 이러한 시스템의 성능 평가를 콜리메이터 유무에 따라 평가하였다. 또한 기존 시스템과 신개념 영상장치를 모두 이용하여 동일 치아 영상을 획득한 후 비교 분석 함으로서 제안된 시스템이 보다 우수한 영상 획득 및 분석이 가능함을 보여 주었으며 이러한 결과는 치근단 X 선 촬영장치 분야에 새로운 변화를 가져올 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

X선 장치용 절연유의 방사선 유기전류에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Radiation Induced Current of X-ray Insulating Oil)

  • Radiation induced current of the insulating oil used for X-ray tube housing was investigated in this paper. The X-ray induced current increased in proportion to the X-ray intensity and X-ray wave length and was greatly affected by the temperature of the insulating oil and the gap length` however, the current was not varied by the amount of the X-ray absorbed. The results suggest that one must consider the following problems as important factors for X-ray machine design and normal operation: cooling system of the X-ray tube housing, X-ray intensity, increasing temperature due to continuous operation, years used, and oil exchange and management.

Comparison of Parallel and Fan-Beam Monochromatic X-Ray CT Using Synchrotron Radiation

  • Monochromatic x-ray CT has several advantages over conventional CT, which utilizes bremsstrahlung white x-rays from an x-ray tube. There are several methods to produce such monochromatic x-rays. The most popular one is crystal diffraction monochromatization, which has been commonly used because of the fact that the energy spread is very narrow and the energy can be changed continuously. The alternative method is the use of fluorescent x-ray, which has several advantages such as large beam size and fast energy change. We have developed a parallel-beam and a fan-beam monochromatic x-ray CT, and compared some characteristics such as accuracy of CT numbers between those systems. The fan beam monochromatic x-rays were generated by irradiating target materials by incident white x-rays from a bending magnet beam line NE5 in 6.5 GeV Accumulation Ring at Tukuba. The parallel beam monochromatic x-rays were generated by using a silicon double crystal monochromator at the bending magnet beam line BL-20BM in Spring-8. A Cadmium telluride (CdTe) 256 channel array detector with 512mm sensitive width capable of operating at room temperature was used in the photon counting mode. A cylindrical phantom containing eight concentrations of gadolinium was used for the fan beam monochromatic x-ray CT system, while a phantom containing acetone, ethanol, acrylic and water was used for the parallel monochromatic x-ray CT system. The linear attenuation coefficients obtained from CT numbers of those monochromatic x-ray CT images were compared with theoretical values. They showed a good agreement within 3%. It was found that the quantitative measurement can be possible by using the fan beam monochromatic x-ray CT system as well as a parallel beam monochromatic X-ray CT system.
