We designed a new experimental set-up for measuring activity of heterogeneously catalyzed reactions. Using this set-up, we studied reduction of carbon dioxide by carbon dioxide reforming of methane (CRM) using nickel powder as catalyst. The properties of the catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer, Emmett & Teller (BET) surface area and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. The reactivity experiments were performed in the temperature range of $300\;-\;500^{\circ}C$. At reactivity experiment, result showed consumption of $CO_2$ and $CH_4$ with a 1:1 stoichiometry. At the same time, carbon monoxide and hydrogen were produced, which could be used for synthesizing fuels such as methanol. During the reaction, deposition of carbon on Ni was observed, which caused deactivation of the catalyst.
The laser-assisted chemical vapor deposition (LCVD) is described, by which the growth of single-phase GaN epitaxy is achieved at lower temperatures. Trimethylgallium (TMG) and ammonia are used as source gases to deposit the epitaxial films of GaN under the irradiation of ArF excimer laser (193 nm). The as-grown deposits are obtained on c-face sapphire surface near 700$^{\circ}$C, which is substantially reduced, relative to the temperatures in conventional thermolytic processes. To overcome the lattice mismatch between c-face sapphire and GaN ad-layer, aluminum nitride(AlN) is predeposited as buffer layer prior to the deposition of GaN. The gas phase interaction is monitored by means of quadrupole mass analyzer (QMA). The stoichiometric deposition is ascertained by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The GaN deposits thus obtained are characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and van der Pauw method.

The Cu/Cu2O/CuO photoelectrode has been successfully fabricated by Rapid Thermal Annealing technique. The structural characterization of fabricated photoelectrode was performed using X-Ray diffraction, while elemental composition of the prepared material has been checked with X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The synthesis parameters are optimized on the basis of photoelectrochemical performance. The best photoelectrochemical performance has been observed for the Cu/Cu2O/CuO photoelectrode fabricated at 550 ℃ oxidation temperature and oxidation time of 50 seconds with highest photocurrent density of -3 mA/㎠ at -0.13 V vs. RHE.

The aim of this work was to determine the behavior of alloy elements and compounds formed during solidification in the manufacturing process of the CuAgZrCr alloy under an oxidizing environment. Bulk and surface analysis techniques, such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Raman and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the phases obtained in the solidification process. In order to focus the analysis on the on grain boundary interface, partial removal of the matrix phase by acid attack was performed. The compositional differences obtained by SEM-EDX, Raman and XPS on post-manufacturing materials allowed us to conclude that the composition of grain boundaries of the alloy is directly influenced by the oxidizing environment of alloy manufacturing.

In this study, phosphorus (P)-doped nickel cobaltite (P-NiCo2O4) and nickel-cobalt layered double hydroxide (P-NiCo-LDH) were synthesized on nickel (Ni) foam as a conductive support using hydrothermal synthesis. The thermal properties, crystal structure, microscopic surface morphology, chemical distribution, electronic state of the constituent elements on the sample surface, and electrical properties of the synthesized P-NiCo2O4 and P-NiCo-LDH samples were analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis-differential scanning calorimetry (TGA-DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The P-NiCo2O4 electrode exhibited a specific capacitance of 1,129 Fg-1 at a current density of 1 Ag-1, while the P-NiCo-LDH electrode displayed a specific capacitance of 1,012 Fg-1 at a current density of 1 Ag-1. When assessing capacity changes for 3,000 cycles, the P-NiCo2O4 electrode exhibited a capacity retention rate of 54%, whereas the P-NiCo-LDH electrode showed a capacity retention rate of 57%.

Tin-oxide ($SnO_2$) nanowires have been synthesized on one-dimensional (1D) carbonization cotton fabric using chemical vapour deposition method. One-dimensional (1D) carbonization cotton fabric has been synthesized from cotton fabric using annealing process in nitrogen gas at $1000^{\circ}C$. The $SnO_2$ nanowires are single-crystalline rutile structures with 20 nm in diameter and 10 ${\mu}m$ in length. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were utilized to characterize the as-synthesized products.

Korea institute of materials science (KIMS) use a linear deposition source called as a closed drift linear plasma source (CDLPS) as well as dual magnetron sputtering (DMS) to deposit SiOxCyHz films in $HMDSO/O_2$ plasma. The CDLPS generates linear plasma using closed drifting electrons and can reduce device degradations due to energetic ion bombardments on organic devices such as organic photovoltaic and organic light emission diode by controlling an ion energy. The deposited films are investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) is used to measure relative radical populations of dissociation and recombination products such as H, CH, and CO in plasma. And SiOx film is applied to a barrier film on organic photovoltaic devices.

Recently, the role of the surface analysis on the development of advanced materials has become larger and larger as the surface compositions of these materials is the key of their performances. Especially three techniques, Auger electron spectroscopy, X- ray photoelectron spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectroscopy are widely used in technology fields. However, because of the relatively short history of these techniques(thirty years or so), there has been no accumulation of data commonly available, physical parameters for analysis have not been established and there has been no standard data. With these background, the VAMAS projects which aims to standardize the manner in the field of these techniques has started in 1982 at Versailles Summit. Along the projects, we have conducted the international collaborating study on the sharing of spectral data. In 1994, the Science and Technology Agency of Japan began the project on computer network, on which our fruits from the study on spectral data sharing is boarded.(omitted)mitted)

Phase transition from normal- to inverse-spinel structure has been observed for $Fe_xCo_{3-x}O_4$ thin films as the Fe composition (x) increases from 0 to 2. The samples were fabricated as thin films by sol-gel method on Si(100) substrates. X-ray diffraction measurements revealed a coexistence of two phases, normal and inverse spinel, for $0.76{\le}x{\le}0.93$. The normal-spinel phase is dominant for $x{\le}0.55$ while the inverse-spinel phase for $x{\ge}l.22$. The cubic lattice constant of the inverse-spinel phase is larger than that of the normal-spinel phase. For both phases the lattice constant increases with increasing x. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements revealed that both $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ ions exist with similar strength in the x=0.93 sample. Conversion electron $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectra measured on the same sample showed that $Fe^{2+}$ ions prefer the octahedral $Co^{3+}$ sites, indicating the formation of the inverse-spinel phase. Analysis on the measured optical absorption spectra for the samples by spectroscopic ellipsometry indicates the dominance of the normal spinel phase for low x in which $Fe^{3+}$ ions tend to substitute the octahedral sites.

We report on the preparation of iron pyrite ($FeS_2$) using pulsed electron ablation of two targets, namely, a mixture of sulfur and iron compound target, and a natural iron pyrite target. Thin films of around 50 nm in thickness have been deposited on glass substrates under Argon background gas at 3 mTorr, and at a substrate temperature of up to $450^{\circ}C$. The thin films have been analyzed chemically and examined structurally using x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and visible Raman spectroscopy. The morphology and thickness of the films have been assessed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and visible spectroscopic reflectance. The preliminary findings, using a synthetic target, show the presence of iron pyrite with increasing proportion as substrate temperature is increased from $150^{\circ}C$ to $250^{\circ}C$. The data have not shown any evidence of pyrite in the deposited films from a natural target.
