  • This paper analyzes Wu Ha-Youngs Cheonilrok in order to reconstruct the regional characteristics of farming in the late 18th-century Korean countryside. The projected objective is approached through the examination of various indices drawn from the volume such as environment, distribution of arable lands, major crops, agricultural techniques, and productivity. The main finding of this research is that unlike todays homogenous picture of agriculture, quite significant differences of agrarian practices existed across the country in the past. The regional differentiation was attributable foremost to natural environment. To elaborate, landform, climate and soil influenced the distribution and use of land plots, the kinds of main crops produced, and the agricultural productivity. The region-specific agricultural techniques result from the cumulative processes of trial and error against the given environment. Other social and economic conditions which include population, skill of the peasants, size of landownership, and irrigation facilities sustained the regional differentiation of agriculture.

  • Experiments on friction drag reduction by injecting polymer (Polyethylene oxide) solution or micro-bubbles were carried out in the cavitation tunnel of KRISO. Two different drag reduction mechanisms were applied to a slender axi-symmetric body to measure the total drag reduction. And then the amount of friction drag reduction was estimated under the assumption that the reduction mechanisms were effective only to the friction drag component. As the result of the tests, polymer solution drag reduction up to 23% of the total drag was observed and it corresponds to about 35% of the estimated friction drag of the axi-symmetric body. This result matched reasonably well to that of the flat plate test "(Kim et al, 2003)". The normalization of the controlling parameters was tried at the end of this paper. Micro-bubble drag reduction was within 1% of its total drag. This unexpected result was quite different from that of the flat plate case "(Kim et at, 2003)" The possible reasons were discussed in this paper.

  • 1) Objective External treatments have various curative effects. So it had been used to cure various patients. But, it has a limited sphere of application in the present South Korea. And the "Li-Yao-Pian-Won" had been written by Wu-Shang-Xian(吳尙先) in 1864. The book is the first technical book of external treatments. So, he has been held in respected as the father of external treatments by many people. Therefore we would like to bring out it's external treatments theory 2) Conclusions He had insisted that external treatments principles are identical with internal treatments. So, prescriptions of external treatment are selected and made by principles of internal treatment. But external treatments have following characteristics 1. Each of external treatment prescriptions have various effects. 2. Exchange of treatments is very easy. 3. We can make free use of various external treatments for care at a time. 4. External treatments are very economical. 5. External treatments are very easy to study. 6. External treatments are simple, speedy, precision.

  • Jang Bogo Station (JBS), the second Korean Antarctic research station, was established in Terra Nova Bay, Antarctica ($74.62^{\circ}S$ $164.22^{\circ}E$) in February 2014 in order to expand the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) research capabilities. One of the main research areas at JBS is space environmental research. The goal of the research is to better understand the general characteristics of the polar region ionosphere and thermosphere and their responses to solar wind and the magnetosphere. Ground-based observations at JBS for upper atmospheric wind and temperature measurements using the Fabry-Perot Interferometer (FPI) began in March 2014. Ionospheric radar (VIPIR) measurements have been collected since 2015 to monitor the state of the polar ionosphere for electron density height profiles, horizontal density gradients, and ion drifts. To investigate the magnetosphere and geomagnetic field variations, a search-coil magnetometer and vector magnetometer were installed in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Since JBS is positioned in an ideal location for auroral observations, we installed an auroral all-sky imager with a color sensor in January 2018 to study substorms as well as auroras. In addition to these observations, we are also operating a proton auroral imager, airglow imager, global positioning system total electron content (GPS TEC)/scintillation monitor, and neutron monitor in collaboration with other institutes. In this article, we briefly introduce the observational activities performed at JBS and the preliminary results of these observations.
