  • Objective: The aim of this study is to develop new K-OWAS on the basis of the anthropometry of Koreans considering works in shipbuilding and heavy industry for evaluation whole-body working postures. Background: Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders(WMSDs) were a leading cause of sick leaves and injuries in the industries of our country. Especially, awkward working postures and handling of heavy weight are known as a main cause of WMSDs. OWAS, RULA and REBA are much used as the method for evaluating the awkward working postures. OWAS is the working postures evaluation method that can be used for the evaluation of whole-body working postures. OWAS was the method made based on the anthropometry of the foreigner, working postures and weight does not fit our work state. Method: This method was evaluated considering the anthropometry of the Koreans, working postures and weight in shipbuilding and heavy industry work state in Korea. Results: Correlation of action level of OWAS and subjective discomfort for each body parts were not statistically significant($p{\geq}0.1$). But correlation of action level of K-OWAS and subjective discomfort for torso and waist were statistically significant($p{\leq}0.1$). Conclusion: K-OWAS was suitable in the evaluation of upper body including torso and waist. Application: New method for whole-body working postures from this study prevent WMSDs and help improvement of working environment and design of working method.

  • Purpose: The Purpose of this study was to identify for perception and preference on Flexible working pattern of Nurses in hospital. Method: The subjects were 260 nurses enrolled in 11 hospitals located in S and P city. Questionnaire method was utilized for data collection. Data was analyzed by SPSS statistical program. Results: 86.5% of the nurses were working 3 shifts. 70.8% of nurses agreed that they decided to give up nurses because of very irregular working pattern. They want to work 40hrs/weeks, and agree to applying to Flexible working pattern. There was statistically significant between career(F=2.839, p=.039), working place(F=3.086, p=.047), the mind of change of occupation(F=.479, p=.002) and expected life pattern change after applicating for Flexible working pattern. Conclusion: We need to Various Flexible working pattern model. As well as we need to public information about nurses' Flexible working pattern.

  • Objective: A method to assess the risk level of agricultural works considering work posture and working time was suggested, and the method was applied to the major fruit crops. Background: It is not complete to analyze only work postures when assessing risk level of agricultural works. Method: $3{\times}3$ matrix was employed, in which the severity level was taken from the REBA method and exposure level was taken from the working time, using the criteria of caution zone/hazard zone. Results: Among the 5 major fruit crops(apple, pear, grape, peach, persimmon), the highest level of ergonomic risk was found in the apple and pear, while medium level was found in other 3 crops, mainly because the working time was less in the 3 crops. Conclusion: It was found that when assessing the overall ergonomic risk of agricultural works, work posture and working time should be considered at the same time. Application: The suggested method could be applied to other non-cyclic tasks.

  • The goal of this study is to propose the effective method of investigating the injurious factors and making improved plans that prevents the workers against musculoskeletal disorders at an autopart company and the same business field with similar working conditions and process. A questionnaire were adopted to analyze the symptoms of workers' musculoskeletal disorders, and an ergonomic assessment method such as QEC, RULA, S.I were performed to find out harmful factors of workplace and working posture. Based on the result of the evaluation, to enhance the working environment, improvement of worktable, working space, tools, and outfit was suggested, and induction of mechanical system was also suggested. It can be concluded that the method and process described in this paper could be helpful for diagnosing the musculoskeletal disorders and making improvement plans to the autopart company and the same business field with similar working conditions and process.

  • The main purpose of this research is to standardize the logging operation with special reference to the net working time for thinning. This study was carried out to obtain the standard working method and working technique for Korean logging operation through the comparison of the present Korean working method and the German standard working method 1. The net working time devided into work elements showed little difference between those two working methods. 2. From the correlation analysis, net working time was significantly correlated with breast height diameter, the dependant variable, with the highest correlation coefficient in each species. 3. Total working time increases by 11 to 13 seconds to every 1 centimeter increase in breast height diameter from i to 16 centimeter. 4. The result of this study concluded that the German working method is recommended for improving the labour problems in the forest operation due to high wages and lack of manpower gradually increasing from now in Korea. In addition to the application of this standard working method, the technical training for the method should be done to the workers for improving the productivity.

  • Working Posture is an important factor directly connected with quality and productivity of the construction project. In particular, High-rise building construction is required to manage the working posture due to the repetitive task and unfavorable working condition such as high place work, limited space. However existing construction planning of high-rise building construction has a negative effect on the labor's productivity because it is not insufficiently considered for working posture. Therefore the purpose of this study is to suggest a work that needs improvement by analyzing labor's working posture quantitatively using OWAS method. These results would provide the basic information to improve the productivity of the construction project by supporting the construction plan considering the working posture in high-rise building.

  • In this paper, the authors discussed the overview of a method for estimating working area for development of a monitoring system for labor management using RFID technology. RSSI (Receive Signal Strength Indication) data of RFID tag was obtained from readers set around the indoor space. An estimating model of the working area was prepared. The model had a range of the percentage of correctly classified from 61% to 95%. According to the result, the possibility of the monitoring system and the factors necessary to develop for practical were proposed.

  • The actual working time of jobs, in general, is different to the standard time of jobs. In this paper, in order to analyze the actual working time of each job in production, we use the total production amount and the encessary total working time. The method which analyzes the actual working time is as follows. In this paper, we propose the interval regression analysis for obtaining an interval linear regression model with constraint conditions with respect to interval parameters. The merits of this method are the following.1) it is easy to obtain an interval linear model by solving a LP problem to which the formulation of proposed regression analysis is reduced, 2) it is easy to add constraint conditions about interval parameters, which are a sort of expert knowledge. As an application, within a case which has given certain data, the actual working time of jobs and the number of workers in a future plan are estimated through the real data obtianed from the operation of processing line in a heavy industry company. It results from the proposed method that the actual working time and the number of workers can be estimated as intervals by the interval regression model.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop products that prevent muscular skeletal disease of farm workers, which would bring improvement for an efficient harvesting work. Background: A pretest for product development and a survey research was carried out to inspect the problems of current harvesting work procedure. The product was developed and assessed based on ideas to supplement and improve these weak points. Method: A total of twenty men were recruited to evaluate the effects of harvest baskets on the upper-limb muscle activity, working hours. For the usability evaluation, electromyogram and working hours of previous working method (disuse of harvest basket, one-hand carriage of the basket) and new working method with the usage of newly-developed harvest basket was examined. The whole anterior deltoid, biceps brachii and erector spinae on both sides, which make a total of six muscle parts, were used for this experiment. The results were analyzed using ANOVA with muscle activity (%MVC) of each three forms of work and required work time from SPSS 18.0. Results: According to the test result, all muscles did not demonstrate any statistically significant difference, with an exception of the backbone erector (right). The muscle activity of backbone erector (right) in the work method that uses the harvest basket developed in this study was detected to be approximately 23% less than that of the previous working method. Moreover, compared to the previous working method, the required work time decreased to a statistically significant degree. Conclusion: As such, the decrease in the amount of waist muscle usage at harvesting work would enable the prevention of muscular skeletal disease and stabilization of lumbar spine. Application: Which in turn would increase the effectiveness and reduce personnel expense (labor costs) while enhancing productivity with a decreased working hours.
