Bayesian Selection Rule for Human-Resource Selection in Business Process Management Systems (베이지안 규칙을 사용한 비즈니스 프로세스 관리 시스템에서의 인적 자원 배정)

  • This study developed a method for selection of available human resources for incomingjob allocation that considers factors affecting resource performance in the business process management (BPM) environment. For many years, resource selection has been treated as a very important issue in scheduling due to its direct influence on the speed and quality of task accomplishment. Even though traditional resource selection can work well in many situations, it might not be the best choice when dealing with human resources. Humanresource performance is easily affected by several factors such as workload, queue, working hours, inter-arrival time, and others. The resource-selection rule developed in the present study considers factors that affect human resource performance. We used a Bayesian Network (BN) to incorporate those factors into a single model, which we have called the Bayesian Selection Rule (BSR). Our simulation results show that the BSR can reduce waiting time, completion time and cycle time.

  • The Japanese developed the first Car navigation system in 1981 with the advent of Honda, which was known as the car inertial navigation system. Now days, It is possible to search the shortest route to and from places and arrival time using the internet via cell phone to the driver based on GIS and GPS. However, even with a good navigation system, it losses the shortest route when there is an average speed of the vehicle being between S-15 kilometers. Therefore, in order to improve the vehicle waiting time and average vehicle speed, we are suggesting an optimal green time algorithm using fuzzy adaptive control, where there are different traffic intersection lengths, and lanes. In this paper, to be able to assist the driver and forecast the optimal traffic information with regards to the road conditions; dangerous roads, construction work and estimation of arrival time at their destination using internet.

Slotted Transmissions using Frame aggregation: A MAC protocol for Capacity Enhancement in Ad-hoc Wireless LANs (프레임 집합화를 이용한 애드-혹 무선 랜의 성능 향상을 위한 MAC 프로토콜)

  • The IEEE 802.11 DCF channel access function allows single transmission inside two-hop network in order to avoid collisions and eliminate the hidden and exposed terminal problems. Singular transmission capability causes data frames waiting for the entire roundtrip time in the transmitter neighborhood, and results in increased frame latency and lower network throughput. Real-time and pervasive applications are severely affected for the lower medium utilization; especially with high network traffic. This work proposes a new scheme with the help of Frame Aggregation technique in IEEE802.11n and overcomes the single transmission barrier maintaining the basic DCF functionality. Proposed scheme allows parallel transmissions in non-interfering synchronized slots. Parallel transmissions bypass the conventional physical carrier sense and random Backoff time for several cases and reduce the frame latency and increase the medium utilization and network capacity.

A Study on Left-turn Queues Analysis using Queueing Theory under Permissive Left-turn Signal System (비보호좌회전 신호체계운영에 따른 좌회전 대기행렬분석에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the optimal length of left-turn lane in permissive left-turn signal system at the signalized intersection which has a left-turn bay is estimated. It is a simulation analysis using the queueing theory that estimate the length of left-turn lane. Traffic density conform to the standards of operating a permissive left-turn system of the Practical Manual Traffic Safety Facilities. And each of a left-turn arrival rate, a left-turn service rate, left-turn average queueing time, for green time average queueing vehicle, for red time average queueing vehicle and average queueing vehicle cycle is calculated. As a result of this study, we would learn how much the space should be secured at the signalized intersection which has a left-turn bay. The methodology using the queueing theory to work out the optimal length of waiting lane in the permissive left-turn signal system was presented.

A Study on the Improvement of Inter-Terminal Transportation Using Buffer Space (완충지역을 활용한 타부두 환적 컨테이너 운송 개선 방안)

  • Competition between ports around the world is intensifying to attract transshipment cargo. However, recently, there have been concerns about the departure of transshipment cargo volume at Busan Port, such as the lifting of the cabotage policy in China's shipping sector and the implementation of a safe fare system. In terms of operation, terminal congestion and vehicle waiting time are seriously occurring due to imbalance in the transshipment volume of each terminal and vehicles concentrated in a specific time period. In this paper, we propose a method of inter-terminal transportation (ITT) using buffer space to solve the problem caused by inefficient ITT systems and presented a mixed integer programming (MIP) for the problem. The effect of using the buffer space was analyzed for various work volumes and capacity fluctuation ranges by applying the terminal congestion pattern and ITT vehicle in/out pattern based on the Busan New Port data.

An Empirical Study on Effectiveness of Hospital Information System and Its Influencing Factors (With Emphasis on the Order Communication System) (병원정보시스템의 유효성 평가와 영향요인에 관한 실증적 연구 - 처방전달시스템(OCS : Order Communication System)을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the successful way of the hospital management focusing on the OCS. More than 40 educational hospitals have OCS. However, only five of them were chosen for the research. Questionnaires are collected from more than 750 persons working in five educational hospitals and some of them were interviewed. The major conclusions of the study can be summarized as follows: o The OCS has simplified the treatment procedure for outpatients, and the outpatients' waiting time has been shortened. o Higher rate of satisfaction was found among the personnel in general. o The number of patients who visited outpatients clinics has increased, so as the hospital profits: the personnel are rescheduled or sent to other departments the number of employees in hospitals have decreased. o The system has the positive effect on large hospitals with over 1000 beds, highly invested hospitals, well computerized hospitals and where the personnel are much interested in the system. o The managers' and the doctors' intention to utilize the OCS is the most important factor influencing the patients' convenience, the simplification of the work and the rate of the employees' satisfaction about their duties. The suggestions for more efficient hospital management through the OCS are as follows ; o The managers and the doctors are need to decide to make active use of the OCS. o The hospital can be run more effective under the clear management purpose. o The work in the hospital must be standardized based on patients' needs. o The OCS must be built and developed mainly for the users' utility. o The education of the personnel and the inspection of the program are necessary before the OCS is introduced. o The hardware should be thoroughly benchmarked before the purchase.

Unifying User Requests for Multimedia Storage Systems (멀티미디어 저장 시스템을 위한 사용자 요청 통합)

  • Most work on multimedia storage systems has assumed that client will be serviced using a round-robin strategy. The server services the clients in rounds and each client is allocated a time slice within that round. Furthermore, most such algorithms are evaluated on the basis of a tightly coupled cost function. This is the basis of well-known algorithm such as FCFS, SCAN, SCAN-EDF, etc. In this paper, we describe a scheduling module called Request Unifier(RU) that takes as input, a set of client request, and a set of constraints on the desired performance such as client waiting time or maximum disk bandwidth, and a cost function. It produces as output a Unified Read Request(URR), telling the storage server which data items to read and when these data items to be delivered to the clients. Given a cost function, a URR is optimal if there is no other URR satisfying the constraints with a lower cost. We present three algorithms in this paper that can accomplish this kind of request merging and compare their performance through an experimental evaluation.

Performance Comparison of Synchronization Methods for CC-NUMA Systems (CC-NUMA 시스템에서의 동기화 기법에 대한 성능 비교)

  • The main goal of synchronization is to guarantee exclusive access to shared data and critical sections, and then it makes parallel programs work correctly and reliably. Exclusive access restricts parallelism of parallel programs, therefor efficient synchronization is essential to achieve high performance in shared-memory parallel programs. Many techniques are devised for efficient synchronization, which utilize features of systems and applications. This paper shows the simulation results that existing synchronization methods have inefficiency under CC-NUMA(Cache Coherent Non-Uniform Memory Access) system, and then compares the performance of Freeze&Melt synchronization that can remove the inefficiency. The simulation results present that Test-and-Test&Set synchronization has inefficiency caused by broadcast operation and the pre-defined order of Queue-On-Lock-Bit (QOLB) synchronization to execute a critical section causes inefficiency. Freeze&Melt synchronization, which removes these inefficiencies, has performance gain by decreasing the waiting time to execute a critical section and the execution time of a critical section, and by reducing the traffic between clusters.

  • This research aims to analyze the importance-performance among multiplex cinema selection attributes. Therefore, we collected data for visitors who visited the multiplex cinema and want to watch movies. Of the various multiplex cinema selection attributes, four factors were deduced that includes: major services, human services, physical environment, auxiliary services using exploratory factor analysis. In the quadrant I, the area of 'Concentrate Here' was 'diversity of screening time', 'diversity of movie genre', 'convenience of mobile app use', 'size and convenience of parking facility'. In the quadrant II, 'Keep up the Good Work' area was 'convenience of website booking', 'discounts through card partnerships', 'employee friendliness', 'accurate employee information delivery', 'comfortable seating', 'screen size', 'cinematic sound quality', and 'convenience of traffic' etc. The quadrant III, 'Low Priority' appeared to be 'membership system', 'tidiness of staff attire', 'resting space for waiting time', 'accessibility to the neighboring area', 'diversity of the snack corner', and 'overall cleanliness' etc. The quadrant IV, 'Possible Overkill' was 'appropriateness of the auditorium temperature' and 'service proficiency'.

  • One of the important performance measure for productivity at container terminals is the working productivity in the quay. working scheduling of quay cranes (QCs) gives a significant impact on the quay working productivity. The recent managers of the terminals pay high interests in equipment investment and operation methods with a new concept in order to enhance the quay working productivity. The double cycle or dual cycle, which is a method to increase the quay productivity with no application of new equipment, but with the change of operations, has been received strong attention in academic research. The majority of studies until this time has been realized the quay work as the bottleneck and focused on those works. However, if the QCs do notver, it the Cs d-trotver,(CT) if t the Cs, there would be the pos ibilf tes that the effectiveness of them is decreasedveaused by the longer, if t the Cs. Thus, this paper, suggests the solutions on the con th scheduling for the dual cycle operation considering the YT.
