Effects of Individuals, Leader Relationships, and Groups on Innovative Work Behaviors

  • Purpose - The intent of this research is to discover the factors that enhance innovative work behaviors of group members in order to strengthen the competitiveness of small enterprises. In addition, we verify that employee job characteristic factors have an influence between antecedent variables and dependent variables in the work situations at small companies. Research design, data, and methodology - This study is focused on identifying the factors, such as self-efficacy, leader member exchange (LMX), and collective efficacy, which promote innovative work behaviors. A total of 305 valid questionnaires were collected. Results - The results of a path analysis showed that LMX did not have significant effects on task significance, and autonomy did not have significant effects on innovative work behavior. Conclusions - These findings of the study imply that even though leaders supported the groups in accordance with official procedures by placing group members within or outside certain groups, task identity perceived by group members was not impacted. In addition, autonomy given to those with relatively less capability might be a burden rather than a positive outcome.

Shift Work and Anxiety Symptoms at an Electronic Manufacture Company: The mediating effect of vitamin D and sleep quality (일개 전자제품 제조업 근로자에서 교대근무와 불안증상: 비타민 D와 수면의 질의 매개효과)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare vitamin D levels, sleep quality, and anxiety symptoms between shift workers and daytime workers and analyze the mediating effect of vitamin D and sleep quality between shift work and anxiety symptoms. Methods: The subjects of the study were 6744 people who received a medical examination while working for an electronics manufacturing company in 2016. We evaluated their shift work, vitamin D levels, sleep quality, and anxiety symptoms with blood samples and questionnaires. Chi-square test, t-test and path statistical analysis were performed. Results: The shift workers had significantly higher symptoms of anxiety than the day workers, significantly lower levels of vitamin D in the blood, and significantly poorer quality of sleep. The results of the pathway analysis confirmed that blood vitamin D and sleep quality had a mediating effect between shift work and anxiety symptoms. Conclusions: Shift workers should be constantly paying attention to mental health effects such as anxiety symptoms. Shift workers should also be alerted of the risk of vitamin D deficiency, encouraged about sun exposure and vitamin D intake, and required to undergo training and counseling on sleep hygiene.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the factors affecting the intention to use cloud computing in the smart work environment. This study is meaningful in that it examines the characteristics of smart work and the fit of cloud computing characteristics, and it is a study that reveals the factors affecting the intention to use cloud computing by applying the integrated model of TTF and TAM. Design/methodology/approach In order to understand the factors affecting the intention to use cloud computing in the smart work environment, a research model that integrates TTF and TAM with the hypothesis was proposed. In order to verify the research hypothesis, this study conducted a survey on individuals with experience in smart work and cloud computing. And with the data 280 collected in the survey, path analysis was performed using the PLS structural equation. Findings As a result, it was found that task characteristics and technology characteristics had a positive (+) effect on task-skill fit, and task-skill fit had a positive (+) effect on perceived ease of use and usefulness. Also, task-skill fit, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness were found to have a positive (+) effect on intention to use.

Path Planning for Cleaning Robots Using Virtual Map (가상지도를 이용한 청소로봇 경로계획)

  • The most common cleaning methods of cleaning robot can be divided into two categories: the random and the boustrophedon method. A cleaning robot using the random method moves straight until it bumps into an obstacle. If it collides with an obstacle, the cleaning robot turns a specific angle and continues moving straight. Therefore, the random method often tends to clean the already clean area repeatedly. In addition, it takes a long time to complete cleaning. A cleaning robot using the boustrophedon method moves straight until it collides with an obstacle. If it meets an obstacle, the cleaning robot moves to the next uncleaned space through turning and moving ahead. when resuming cleaning from the new region, a cleaning robot moves in the direction opposite to the direction of the previous cleaning. Because the boustrophedon method cleans a cleaning space more densely, its performance is excellent in an obstacle-free space or a small space. However, In a space with obstacles or a complex structure, it takes a long time to complete the cleaning work. Cleaning should be systematically approached with a good understanding of the work area. The virtual map-based cleaning robot proposed in this paper cleaned a work space efficiently. The efficiency of the proposed method was measured through simulation.

A Study on Stowage Automation Algorithm for Cargo Stowage Optimization of Vehicle Carriers (차량 운반선의 화물 적재 최적화를 위한 적재 자동화 알고리즘 연구)

  • With the development of the 4th industry, the logistics industry is evolving into a smart logistics system. However, ship work that transports vehicles is progressing slowly due to various problems. In this paper, we propose an stowage automation algorithm that can be used for cargo loading of vehicle carriers that shortens loading and unloading work time. The stowage automation algorithm returns the shortest distance by searching for a loading space and a movable path in the ship in consideration of the structure of the ship. The algorithm identifies walls, ramps and vehicles that have already been shipped, and can work even with randomly placed. In particular, it is expected to contribute to developing a smart logistics system for vehicle carriers by referring to the ship's master plan to search for vehicle loading and unloading space in each port and predict the shortest movable path.

  • Due to an increased sitting time in work, lumbar disc disease is one of the most frequent diseases in modern days, and this occasionally requires surgery for treatment. Endoscopic disc surgery, one of the common disc surgeries, requires a process of inserting a guide needle to the target disc for which the insertion path is manually planned by drawing lines on the patient's skin while monitoring the fluoroscopic view of the lumbar. Such procedure inevitably exposes both surgeon and patient to the fluoroscopy radiation emitted from the c-arm for a long time. To reduce the radiation exposure time, this study proposes a computer assisted method of calculating the 3D guide needle path by using 2D c-arm images of the disc in 3 different angles. Additionally, a method of the guide robot control based on the 3D needle path was developed by implementing the Hand-eye Calibration method to calculate the transformation matrix between the c-arm and robot base coordinate systems. The proposed system was then tested for its accuracy.

  • An intelligent performance diagnostic computer program of a gas turbine using the NN(Neural Network) was developed. Recently on-condition performance monitoring of major gas path components using the GPA(Gas Path Analysis) method has been performed in analyzing of engine faults. However because the types and severities of engine faults are various and complex, it is not easy that all fault conditions of the engine would be monitored only by the GPA approach. Therefore in order to solve this problem, application of using the NNs for learning and diagnosis would be required. Among then, a BPN (Back Propagation Neural Network) with one hidden layer, which can use an updating learning rate, was proposed for diagnostics of PT6A-62 turboprop engine in this work.

A Path Analysis of Digital Storytelling using Petri-Net Applied Humanities (인문학에 적용된 패트리넷을 이용한 디지털 스토리텔링 경로 분석)

  • Humanities is very difficult area to use the computer. However, recently, convergence trend has increase widely at all of the academic area. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a technical method to use an IT for the popularity of humanities. For this purpose, we implement a path process that use Petri-net to apply digital storytelling to humanities. We also make a structure to connect an examples and questions from sentences or articles as digital storytelling. The digital storytelling consists of six factors; author, synopsis, background, construction, view point, and user's or reader's review. Proposed method provides a process to analyze the data path of a literary work using Petri-net.

Experimental Analysis of Tilt-stability in Bicycling (자전거 주행시 경사 안정성에 대한 실험적 분석)

  • In development of an advanced bicycle simulator, the investigation of the interactions between bicycle and rider during cycling is paramount important because bicycle is a two-wheeled human-powered vehicle. Tn this work, the tilt stability. among various interactions, of bicycling is investigated experimentally, In the experiments, the tilt angles of the bicycle, riders body and head are measured, as the riding p;1th and the speed are varied. Subjects are asked to ride along four typical paths on rigid flat ground : the straight, C-curved, S-curved and circle paths. The results from extensive experiments with different subjects can be summarized as : 1) The tilt angles of bicycle and rider are almost out of phase during pedaling along the straight path. 2) The bicycle tilt angle is nearly proportional to the square of bicycle speed for the straight and curved paths, and to the curvature for the curved paths. The head tilt angle is the biggest and the body tilt angle is the smallest for the straight path, but the tendency is reversed for the C-curved path. During the curve maneuvering, the rider's head tends to tilt by less than 40% of the bicycle tilt angle.

  • Tube hydroforming process is generally consisted with pre-bending, preforming and hydroforming processes. Among forming defects which may occur in tube hydroforming such as buckling, wrinkling and bursting, the wrinkling and bursting by local instability under excessive tensile stress mode were mainly caused by thinning phenomenon in the manufacturing process. Thus the accurate prediction and suitable evaluation of the thinning phenomenon play an important role in designing and producing the successfully hydroformed parts without any failures. In this work, the formability on hydroformed part for automobile, i.e. engine cradle, was evaluated using finite element analysis. The initial tube radius, loading path with axial feeding force and internal pressure, and preformed configuration after preforming process were considered as the dominant process parameters in total tube hydroforming process. The effects on these process parameters could be confirmed through the numerical experiments with respect to several kinds of finite element simulation conditions. The degree of enhancement on formability with each process parameters such as initial tube radius, loading path and preform configuration were also compared. Therefore, it is noted that the evaluation approach of the formability on hydroformed parts for lots of industrial fields proposed in this study will provide one of feasible methods to satisfy the increasing practical demands for the improvement of the formability in tube hydroforming processes.
