  • Frictional performance of ring pack in internal engine is investigated by varying spatial dimensions of ring pack and operating speed. This investigation is performed with commercial software by Ricardo Consultant Engineers, Inc. which is now in wofdwide use in automobile industries. Among the ring performances, blow-by rate, axial ring motions and frictional behaviors of top and second rings are studies in our work.

  • Dipped track profiles between rail transit stations can significantly reduce propulsive energy, braking energy and travel times. This work quantifies their potential benefits for circumstances reflected in various values for dips, speed and acceleration limits, station spacings, and available power. A deterministic simulation model has been developed to precisely estimate train motions and performance using basic equations for kinematics, resistance, power and braking. For a dip of 1% of station spacing, in which gradients never exceed 4%, our results show savings (compared with level tracks) exceeding 9% for propulsive energy, 15% for braking energy and 5% for travel time between stations.

  • An infinite system of stochastic differential equations (SDE)driven by Brownian motions and compensated Poisson random measures for the locations and weights of a collection of particles is considered. This is an analogue of the work by Kurtz and Xiong where compensated Poisson random measures are replaced by white noise. The particles interact through their weighted measure V, which is shown to be a solution of a stochastic differential equation. Also a limit theorem for system of SDE is proved when the corresponding Poisson random measures in SDE converge to white noise.

  • The Reciprocating compressor are widely used in the refrigeration field for its simplicity in principle and high efficiency. In this work, we developed a mathematical model of a reciprocating compressor. The suction and discharge valves are modeled by the spring-mass-damper systems. The working fluid flow is derived from unsteady Bernoulli's equation. With the design parameters, the valve motions and pressure fluctuations are studied numerically and experimentally.

  • In this paper, we propose and developed a keyglove using the touch-typing method as new solutions to the problem of text input into the mobile computing devices. This device recognizes that character is typed in though the hand's movements analysis and requires no additional space on a person's desktop or work surface, and can be easily used with computers of any size, even the smallest mobile computer, and is designed as an input device for wearable computers and virtual environment.   • The secondary motion of piston occurs due to the transient forces and moments in the clearances between piston skirt and cylinder liner The motions are very related to the skirt profile and the magnitude of piston-pin offset. Above all, the elastic deformation is another major effect on the piston secondary motion that has not been considered in the previous researches. In this work, the effects of elastic deformation of the piston skirt on the secondary piston motion are studied for the frictional power loss by using commercial softares, PISDYN and ANSYS.

Work chain-based inverse kinematics of robot to imitate human motion with Kinect

  • The ability to realize human-motion imitation using robots is closely related to developments in the field of artificial intelligence. However, it is not easy to imitate human motions entirely owing to the physical differences between the human body and robots. In this paper, we propose a work chain-based inverse kinematics to enable a robot to imitate the human motion of upper limbs in real time. Two work chains are built on each arm to ensure that there is motion similarity, such as the end effector trajectory and the joint-angle configuration. In addition, a two-phase filter is used to remove the interference and noise, together with a self-collision avoidance scheme to maintain the stability of the robot during the imitation. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of our solution on the humanoid robot Nao-H25 in terms of accuracy and real-time performance.

Suggestion of Model Change Work Improvement by REBA and Therblig

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to provide a method to improve the compliance and reduce the time by reducing the workload during the model change work. Background: The enterprises are constructing the small quantity batch production system by increasing the number of model change and reducing model-changing. However, the compliance is low because the work is strenuous and high skills are needed, so the system management is facing with many difficulties. Method: After classifying the model change work according to the purposes(preparation, change and adjustment) with the target of mascara filling machine, element tasks time were measured and the motion analysis(therblig symbol) and REBA analysis were performed. The study incorporated 3 independent variables as the number of motion, REBA score and the element time. The dependent variable is the type of element work as preparation, change and adjustment. The statistical test was performed by one-way ANOVA(${\alpha}$ < 0.05). Results: For the preparation, the number of motions appeared in the order of Use(U), Transport Loaded(TL), and Position(P). The order appeared in change is Use(U), Release Load(RL), and Grasp (G). The adjustment appeared in the order of Position(P) and Use(U). The results of average motion time as the element work times divided by the number of motion appeared in the order of adjustment(1.85sec/motion), preparation(1.11sec/motion), and change(0.62sec/motion). The results of REBA showed that the average risk level of change and adjustment were medium, but 53.1% of change and 42.9% of adjustment were evaluated as high. Conclusion: Reducing the avoidance and improving the compliance of work could be expected if the job autonomy were improved by improving the working postures with high risk level. Application: It is expected to solve the problem of reducing the time of model change work in the small quantity batch production system. The future work is to carry out the improvement directions found in the results and compare the results after improvement.

ON CONTROLLING A CHAOTIC VEHICLE DYNAMIC SYSTEM BY USING DITHER

  • This work verifies the chaotic motion of a steer-by-wire vehicle dynamic system, and then elucidates an application of dither smoothing to control the chaos of a vehicle model. The largest Lyapunov exponent is estimated from the synchronization to identify periodic and chaotic motions. Then, a bifurcation diagram reveals complex nonlinear behaviors over a range of parameter values. Finally, a method for controlling a chaotic vehicle dynamic system is proposed. This method involves applying another external input, called a dither signal, to the system. The designed controller is demonstrated to work quite well for nonlinear systems in achieving robust stability and protecting the vehicle from slip or spin. Some simulation results are presented to establish the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • A new measurement method to measure vibrational motions of objects is presented. The original principle is similar to the previous work that utilized a 3-facet mirror to obtain three dimensional positions and orientations of rigid bodies. While the previous work was presented for only stationary objects, in this paper, we newly investigate the feasibility of this method for dynamic applications. The 3-facet mirror that looks like a triangular pyramid having an equilateral cross-sectional shape. The mirror has three lateral reflective surfaces inclined 45 degrees to its bottom surface, and its mounted on the object whose motion is to be measured, As optical components, a He-Ne laser source and three position-sensitive detectors(PSD) are used.
