폐경 후기 중년여성의 신체상, 우울 및 성기능과의 관계 (The relationships among Body Image, Depression and Sexual function in Postmenopausal Women)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship among body image, depression and sexual function in Korean postmenopausal women. Methods: Subjects were 96 postmenopausal women who have lived in Korea. Data was collected using Semantic Differential scale, CES-D, and FSFI. Results: The level of body image was positive, depression was mild, and sexual function was moderate. There were no significant correlation between depression and sexual function. The subjects who had more positive body image experienced higher sexual function and less depressed mood. Conclusion: These findings showed the need for a knowledge development program for nurses regarding women's sexual function. Also, nurses must do counseling with sexual partner's and consider patients' body image when counseling those who complain of sexual dysfunction.

의사와 간호사의 장애인에 대한 태도 (Attitudes of Physicians and Nurses toward with Disabled Person)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to explore the attitudes of physicians and nurses. Method: Attitudes were measured by using the korean version of the SADP(Scale of Attitudes toward the Disabled Persons : Choi, G. H., & Lam, C. S., 2000). A korean version SADP consist of 24-item, six-point Likert-type scale(the points are -3, -2, -1, +1, +2, +3, where -3 is disagree very much and +3 is Agree very much), measuring general attitudes toward people with disabilities. The sample included 90 physicians, 114 nurses at a university hospital in Busan. The data were collected using questionnaires, and were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean score, standard deviation, t-test and one-way ANOVA. Result: When studying the physicians group by itself, SADP scores tended to increase with women physicians, old age, married, higher educational level, more years of experience, medical unit. When studying the nurses group by itself, SADP scores tended to increase with the age of thirty, single, educational level, more years of experience, surgical unit. But not to a statistically significant degree. Conclusion: Findings suggest that the nurses had significantly higher score than the physicians(t=-4.63, p<.001). When studying the physicians group and the nurses group by itself, not to a statistically significant degree.

간호사의 사회봉사활동에 대한 인식과 태도 (A Study on Recognition and Attitudes toward the Social Service Activity of Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate recognition and attitudes about social service activity(SSA) of nurses. Method: This was a descriptive study. The data was collected from July 15 to 31, 2002 by using a self-report questionnaire consisting of general characteristics(15items), recognition(24items) and attitude(23items) about SSA. The questionnaire was sent to 711 nurses of 38 hospitals in the Gyounggi province area, and 664 questionnaires were returned. The answer rate was 93.4%. The data was analyzed by the SPSS 12.0 Win program. Result: Seventy-one percent of nurses had a SSA experience during university, but only 14.2% nurses participate in SSA now. The mean score of recognition of SSA was 3.58($\pm$0.45), and that of attitude was 3.70($\pm$0.42). The relationship between recognition and attitude had a positive correlation(r=.398, p=.000), the higher the score of recognition, the higher the score of attitude. Conclusion: From these results, to improve nurses' participation in SSA, research to investigate the barrier factors of SSA participation in spite of the high level of recognition and attitude is needed. Programs for nurses to participate in SSA and systemic management should be set up.

간호사 임금수준의 상대적 적정성 연구 (Are the nurses overpaid or underpaid\ulcorner)

  • It is generally believed that the medical profession in Korea is an well-paid field along with legal profession. In this vein, the nursing is regarded one of well-paid profession. The actual data, however, reveals that nurses belong to low income bracket. We carefully compare the nurse's earnings with those of other professions. We selected 58 professions, which are similar in vocational characteristics and education background to nurses and conduct a regression analysis to estimate earning functions. Using the estimated coefficients, we project an optimum salary level for nurse, and compare it with the actual salary level. The estimated results show that the nurses are underpaid : their actual salary is less than the optimum level. We provide several explanations for this phenomenon : a tradition based on Confucian value, wage discrimination for women, and wage inequality among hospitals. Undercompensation will result either ratard professional development, or block the motivation for high quality of nursing care. If the current underpaying situation is not improved, a shortage of nurses along with an noticeable decline in the quality of medical services are expected. Therefore an adequate compensation for nurses must be properly assessed and addresed not only be health care authorities but also by legislators. Further research is needed to explain why there is such as wide salary inequality among nurses, and to find what cause it.

의료처치 및 환자 비밀유지에 대한 중환자실 간호사와 일반병동 간호사의 윤리적 갈등 경험 비교연구 (Comparison of Experiences of Ethical Dilemma between Intensive Care Unit and General Unit Nurses regarding Treatment Decisions and Confidentiality)

  • Purpose : This study compares experiences of ethical dilemma between nurses working in intensive care units and those in general units under specific situations of treatment decisions and confidentiality. Method : This cross-sectional descriptive study utilizes the self-report survey method. The survey questionnaires were completed by 50 and 52 nurses working in intensive care units and general units, respectively. The instrument, which consisted of 16 items of ethical dilemma situations about treatment decision and confidentiality, was used. The mean scores for each item were compared between the two groups. Results : The study found no differences in terms of age, gender, education level, clinical experience in years, and being educated on healthcare ethics. For 9 out of 16 items, the mean scores of nurses in intensive care units were significantly higher than those of nurses in general units. Conclusions : Nurses in intensive care units experienced ethical dilemmas regarding treatment decisions and confidentiality more often than those in general units. This study emphasizes the need to establish strategies for improving the ethical competence of critical care nurses.

노인요양시설에서 활용되는 간호중재의 중요도와 수행도 분석 (The Importance and Performance of Nursing Interventions Perceived by Nurses in Long-term Care Facilities for Elderly)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify nursing interventions which were perceived highly in the importance and performance of nursing interventions by nurses in long-term care facilities for elderly. Method: Data was collected from nurses working in long-term care facilities for elderly over 2 years who participated in continuous education by Korea Association of Senior Citizens Welfare Institution. Data was analyzed using mean and paired t-test to compare difference between the importance and performance of each nursing intervention. Results: Among 264 nursing intervention, 49 nursing interventions were considered highly important and performed very often by nurses. Especially, 11 nursing interventions had significant difference between the importance and the performance, which meant that nurses perceived them as the most important and they were not implemented often as much as that by nurses. Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that what kinds of the nursing interventions were perceived highly important and performed very often by nurses in long-term care facilities for elderly. These nursing interventions can be utilized in the development of standardized nursing intervention classification to be used for the long-term care facilities for elderly.
