Social Factors and Changing Attitudes towards Women's Political Leadership in the World Values Surveys

  • Purpose - This study aims to analyze changes in attitudes towards women's political leadership and the social factors related to such changes. The study reviews the field of women's political leadership, specifically the political and economic participation of women in the world, and the impact of variables such as the changes in attitude on such participation. Research design, data, and methodology - The population for this study comprises 99 countries that are members of the United Nations and have participated in the third and fifth waves of the World Values Surveys. The sample consists of 31 such countries selected for sampling. Results - This study is a secondary analysis to examine the hypotheses regression and the LISREL model are used. The findings of the study indicate that the correlation between two variables, namely women's political participation and leadership of women, is statistically significant. Conclusions - The changing rate of women's economic participation is also significant. The significance of these coefficients indicates that the results, with a 95% confidence level, can be extended to all member states.

병원간호사의 정치관심도, 정치 효능감 및 매체 이용이 정치참여에 미치는 영향 (Political Interest, Political Efficacy, and Media Usage as Factors Influencing Political Participation in Hospital Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify how political interest, efficacy and media usage influence political participation in hospital nurses. Methods: Participants were 286 nurses, who were informed of the study purpose and agreed to participate. Data were collected during November and December, 2012 using a questionnaire on political interest, political efficacy, media usage and political participation. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$'s test, Pearson Correlation Coefficients, and Multiple Stepwise Regression. Results: Scores for political participation and political interest was average. The score for political efficacy was higher than average. Political participation was significantly different by education level, job career, position, and intention to vote in the election for the 18th President. Political participation had a moderate positive correlation with political interest (r=.50, p<.001), political efficacy (r=.32, p<.001) and media usage (r=.14, p=.022). Political interest (${\beta}$=.43) was the factor most influential on political participation, explaining 25% of the variance. A total of 32% of political participation was explained by political interest, political efficacy, and TV news or SNS for media use. Conclusion: The results suggest that it is necessary to develop strategies to promote political interest and political efficacy for hospital nurses to improve political participation.

Political Participation Based on the Learning Efficacy of Dental Hygiene Policy in Dental Hygiene Students

  • Background: To investigate political participation by dental hygiene students and analyze the differences therein based on the learning efficacy of dental hygiene policy. Methods: A total of 239 dental hygiene students who were expected to graduate responded to the survey. The data were collected online using a structured questionnaire consisting of 6 items on general characteristics, 10 on political participation, and 15 on the learning efficacy of dental hygiene policy. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 23.0. Political participation based on the learning efficacy of dental hygiene policy was analyzed using independent t-tests, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis (p<0.05). Results: Among the dental hygiene students, 60.7% voted in all three recent presidential, general, and local elections, and 14.2% did not. For political parties supported, 65.7% responded that they had "no supporting party," and 34.3% indicated that they had a "supporting party." In terms of the level of political participation of dental hygiene students (0~50 points), the average score was 25.8 points, with the average passive political participation (0~25 points) score at 15.6 points and the average active political participation (0~25 points) score at 10.2 points. With an increase in dental hygiene policy learning efficacy, both passive and active political participation showed higher scores (p<0.05). Conclusion: Dental hygiene students showed low political participation. The presence of a supporting party, higher voting participation, and higher learning efficacy of dental hygiene policy were associated with higher passive and active political participation. Therefore, to increase this population's interest in political participation, various opportunities for related learning need to be promoted and provided in academia, leading to the enhancement of their political capabilities. In this manner, dental hygienists should expand their capabilities in various roles such as advocates, policy makers, and leaders.

농촌여성들의 지역사회조직 참여 결정요인 (Determinants Affecting Rural Women's Participation on Community Organizations in Rural Korea)

  • This study aims to examine the determinants affecting rural women's participation in community organizations in rural Korea. The data was collected through interviews with 958 rural women among 1,870 respondents who have lived in Up and Myen as an administrative unit of a rural community, and analyzed by the SPSS/PC Win V.10 program. The statistical method utilized for this study was the hierarchy multiple regression model. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, rural women with a high income, a larger farm, or a fruit farm are more likely to participate in agricultural cooperatives. Second, rural women with a high income, a larger farm, who are engaged in full time forming, and grow fruit and special crops, are more likely to participate in cooperative firms. Third, rural women who are educated and have a larger farm, a fruit farm, and high community attachment are more likely to participate in learning organizations. Fourth, rural women who were educated and have small households are more likely to participate in religious groups. Fifth, rural women with a small farm are more likely to participate in civic organizations. Sixth, there was no significance between all of these variables and participation in political parties.

미군정기의 여성신문과 여성운동 (Women's Newspapers and Women's Movement during the Period of US Military Government in Korea)

  • 본 논문은 미군정기에 발행된 여성신문들을 여성운동과의 관계 속에서 살펴보고자 하는 것이다. 미군정기에 여성들을 대상으로 하는 일간지가 5개나 발행되었다는 것은 그만큼 당시의 여성운동이 활발했음을 보여주는 것이었다. 그 중 3개는 여성이 발행인이었고, 대부분의 신문에는 적은 수나마 여성운동과 직 간접적 관계를 맺고 있던 여성들이 참여하였다. 하지만 이런 여성신문들은 경제적 여건이 좋지 못해 휴간이 잦고 발행기간도 짧아 안정적으로 제 역할을 하지 못했다. 또한 신문의 내용이 여성신문으로서의 특성을 제대로 살렸다고 보기 어려운 점들도 있었다. 특히 당시 여성운동단체들이 본격적으로 여성해방을 위해 활동했다기보다는 대체로 국가수립을 둘러싼 정치활동의 보조적 역할을 하는데 머물렀기 때문에 여성운동단체들과 직 간접적 관계를 맺고 있던 여성신문들의 논조도 이런 특성을 그대로 보여 주는 한계를 드러냈다. 여전히 성별 분업론에서 크게 벗어나지 못한 논조들 보이며, 단지 현실적 필요 때문에 여성들의 정치 참여를 강조하는 입장을 보였을 뿐이다.

日本の保守政権下における女性の実質的代表-女性活躍推進法案を巡る国会審議をケースとして (Substantive Representation of Women Under the Conservative Government in Japan: An analysis of the Diet deliberation of the Bill on Promotion of Women's Participation and Advancement in the Workplace)

  • かつてフェミニズムや男女平等を批判していた安倍晋三首相率いる第二次安倍政権は,2012年以降,女性の社会進出を後押しする政策を積極的に促進し,2015年には女性の職業生活における活躍の推進に関する法律(女性活躍推進法)を成立させている。女性活躍推進法は,女性政策ではなく,女性を利用しようとする経済政策であるとの批判が多いが,一方では女性のための政策としての側面もあるとの指摘もあり,保守政権による女性政策の興味深いケースとなっている。本稿は,女性活躍推進法の審議過程における女性の実質的代表の内実を明らかにすることを目的とする。具体的には,安倍政権による女性政策,また,女性の実質的代表に関する先行研究の知見から導き出した二つのリサーチクエスチョンへの答えを,法案審議での議員発言をデータとして提示することが本稿の課題である。第一に,女性活躍推進法が女性活用の経済政策であるという評価から,審議過程においても,女性の利益や権利を代表する発言よりも,女性を経済成長や少子高齢化社会における資源として活用しようとする発言が多いのかどうかを探る。第二に,女性を実質的に代表する発言があるとすれば,どのような発言内容が見られるのかを明らかにする。特に,保守政党である自由民主党が多数を占めている国会での審議においては,女性の家庭内ケア提供役割を所与とした女性のための発言が大勢を占めているのかに注目する。これらのリサーチクエスチョンに答えることで,女性活躍推進法を巡る女性の実質的代表の有り様,また保守主義と女性の実質的代表の関係を明らかし,女性の実質的代表の研究に貢献することを目指す。分析の結果,女性を活用しようとする発言は,女性を代表する発言,また女性活用の姿勢を批判する発言と比べて数が少なかったこと,議員発言によって多種多様な女性が代表されていることが明らかになった。また,保守系議員による,女性の家庭内ケア提供役割を所与とした保守的な女性の代表発言がある一方で,主に野党議員による,保守的ではない女性の代表発言も多くあったことも示された。これらの分析結果は,保守政権が支配する議会であっても,非保守的な女性の実質的代表が,少なくとも審議過程においては可能であることを示唆している。

"And not just the men, but the women and the children, too": Gendered Images of Violence in Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Cambodian Cold War Museums

  • This article is a sub-section of a comparative analysis of depictions of violence in Jakarta's Museum of the Indonesian Communist Party's Treachery, Ho Chi Minh City's War Remnants Museum, and Phnom Penh's Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. In comparing these public history sites, I analyze how memories of mass violence were central to state formation in both Suharto's anti-Communist New Order (1966-1998), the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (1976-present), and Cambodia since the collapse of Democratic Kampuchea (1979-present). While this comparison points out specific distinctions about the role of the military, the nature of revolution, and conceptions of gender, it argues for a central similarity in the use of a mythology of victimization in building these post-conflict nation-states. This article focuses on my gendered analysis of the use of images of women and children in each museum. Depending on context and political purpose, these museums cast women as tragic victim, revolutionary heroine, or threat to the social order. My analysis of gender places stereotypical images of violence against women (the trope of women and children as the ultimate victims) in conversation with dark fantasies of women as perpetrators of savage violence and heroic images of women liberated by participation in violence.

개인과 미디어의 선택성이 강화된 디지털 뉴스 유통 환경에서 선택적 노출과 의견변화, 정치참여의 관계 연구 (A study on the relationship between selective exposure, opinion change, and political participation in a digital news distribution environment)

  • 본 연구는 현재 디지털 뉴스 유통 과정이 개인의 선택, 이에 기반한 미디어의 선택으로 인해 이용자들에게 정치적으로 편향된 정보를 제공할 수 있다는 점에 초점을 맞추고 개인의 뉴스 선택에 영향을 미치는 요인과 이용자의 정파적 선호에 맞춤화된 뉴스가 추천됐을 때 발생할 수 있는 의견변화와 정치참여의 효과를 탐색적으로 분석했다. 자신의 정파적 선호에 부합하는 뉴스를 선택하는 선택적 노출의 현상은 개인이 한정적 정보처리를 많이 이용하고, 정치적 신념이 같은 집단 간의 높은 토론 효능감을 경험할수록 그 정도가 높은 것으로 니타났다. 선택적 노출의 정도가 높은 개인에게 정파적 성향과 일치하는 일방향 메시지의 뉴스를 무작위로 제공했을 때 기존 의견이 강화되는 방향으로 의견 공고화와 의견보강 정보처리가 일어나면서 온라인 정치참여가 높아지는 경향성이 발견되었다. 반면 이들에게 미디어가 경쟁하는 두 정파적 입장을 균형있게 다룬 양방향 메시지 뉴스를 무작위로 제공했을 경우 상대편의 견해와 논지를 이해하고 더 나은 의견이 있다면 기존 의견을 조정해보려는 의향이 함께 발견되었다. 이 연구는 숙의민주주의 과정에서 다양한 의견을 균형있게 이용하는 것의 중요성을 지적하고 이와 관련한 미디어 리터러시의 필요성을 제안했다.

소셜미디어 이용정도 및 이용동기가 사회자본에 미치는 영향: 개방형/폐쇄형 소셜미디어 비교 (The Impact of Social Media Use and Motive on Social Capital: Comparison of Open/Closed Social Media)

  • 본 연구는 전국의 고등학생 및 대학생에 대한 대규모 조사를 통하여 소셜미디어 이용정도 및 이용동기가 교량적/결속적 사회자본 및 참여를 증진시키는 데 얼마나 기여하고 있는지 고찰했다. 특히 소셜미디어를 네트워크 성격에 따라 개방형 네트워크와 폐쇄형 네트워크 서비스로 구분해 분석한 결과, 전자는 교량적 사회자본의 강화에, 후자는 결속적 사회자본의 증진에 기여하는 것으로 나타났다. 소셜미디어이용동기는 교량적/결속적 사회자본 모두에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 소셜미디어를 통한 정치 사회적 참여에는 소셜미디어 유형별 이용정도와 이용동기가 모두 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 결론적으로, 소셜미디어가 사회자본에 미치는 효과는 어떤 성격의 매체를 이용하고 그것을 어떠한 목적으로 이용하는가에 따라 결정된다고 볼 수 있다.

성별ㆍ지역간 사회교육 기회격차에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Opportunity level of Adult Education by Gender and Regions)

  • Education has been emphasized as one of tools of realizing social equality, which has its base on the ideology of equal education opportunity. The Opportunity level of adult education is important in the meaning of social equality. but these days It is being inequality. so The objectives of this study were 1) measuring the opportunity level of adult education in Korea, 2) analysing the difference adult education level by gender, regions, 3) making out the gap of the its level by social educational agencies, 4) to suggest the way to improve the opportunity level of adults educations between adults by gender, regions. The followings are the results from the study: Adult education participation level were lower. Adult education participation level per adult education type showed higher participation at private institutes, lower at cultural center of community and school's human and material resources are not properly utilized in adult educational activities. By adult education participation level per gender and location, women have a higher participation level then men, and urban areas have a higher participation level then rural areas. In case of location, environment variables is most explanatory in adult education participation level. To strive for methods to activate school-oriented adult education activities and to develop political solution to ease the resources gaps for adult education investment among regions in order not to deepen environment gaps of adult education between urban and rural areas. For adult education activation, institution and bodies in charge of adult education should expand and discover hardware and develop and distribute software. Also, adult education specialists who operate and manage these hardware and sofeware efficiently should be recruited.
