Background: This research evaluated the effectiveness of an online education model in teaching breast self-examination to university staff and students. Materials and Methods: 1,679 women participated in a breast self-examination online training program. Breast self-examination knowledge evaluation forms developed by Maurer (1997) were used in the research and were evaluated on a 100 point scale. Paired t-test and McNemar's Test statistics were employed. Results: The participants scored an average of 46.5 (14.0%) on knowledge on breast self-examination before training, but 77.4 (11.0%) one month after education and 76.7 (9.52%) after six months. There was a clear significant difference between these knowledge levels (p<0.05). Similarly, while the rate for systematic practice of breast self-examination among women was 30.8% before training it increased to 47.8% afterwards. Again the difference was significant (p<0.05). Conclusions: Online education is an effective method for teaching breast self-examination to women.
Purpose: This study explored the degree to which pregnant women in Korea made informed choices regarding noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and investigated factors influencing whether they made informed choices. Methods: In total, 129 pregnant women in Korea participated in a web-based survey. Multidimensional measures of informed choice regarding NIPT and decisional conflict were used to measure participants' levels of knowledge, attitudes, deliberation, uptake, and decisional conflict related to NIPT. Additional questions were asked about participants' NIPT experiences and opinions. Results: All 129 pregnant women were recruited from an online community. Excluding those who expressed neutral attitudes toward NIPT, according to the definition of informed choice used in this study, only 91 made an informed choice (n=63, 69.2%) or an uninformed choice (n=28, 30.8%). Of the latter, 75.0% had insufficient knowledge, 39.3% made a value-inconsistent decision, and 14.3% did not deliberate sufficiently. No difference in decisional conflict was found between the two groups. A significant difference was found between the two groups in the reasons why NIPT was introduced or recommended (p=.021). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that pregnant women who were knowledgeable (odds ratio [OR], 4.77; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.17-10.47) and deliberated (OR, 0.74; 95% CI, 0.57-0.98) were significantly more likely to make an informed choice. Conclusion: The results of this study help healthcare providers, including nurses in maternity units, understand pregnant women's experiences of NIPT. Counseling strategies are needed to improve pregnant women's knowledge of NIPT and create an environment that promotes deliberation regarding this decision.
Objectives: This study was conducted to provide data in order to develop effective family planning programs by analyzing the factors which affect contraceptive use among women in Ethiopia. Methods: The community health survey was conducted on women of childbearing age. The research model was developed based on Andersen's Model. A total of 320 respondents were analyzed through Chi-square analysis, t-tests and logistic regression analysis. Results: Contraceptive prevalence rate was 43.1% and most of them were using modern and short-term methods. Among three factor categories, the need factor(unwanted pregnancy experience) was revealed as the most important factor, following enabling factor which was knowing the FP services in health center. Conclusions: These results lead to several conclusions. First, the results imply that programs should focus on women who are in the over 30yr. as well as the poorer economic group and urban residents. Second, to improve the effectiveness of the program, it is important to help them to be motivated themselves and to promote knowledge on various methods. Third, in terms of service delivery, community health workers are expected to take a crucial role. To improve the availability of services, they should provide practical services as those in health center.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the factors influencing COVID-19 infection prevention behavior of nursing students. Methods: Data collection is from December 17 to October 22, 2021. One hundred and ninety-seven nursing students participated in this study. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test, ANOVA, correlation coefficient, scheffé test, and multiple regression analysis. Results: COVID-19 knowledge (r=.49, p<.001), attitude (r=.41, p<.001), and COVID-19 risk perception (r=.40, p<.001) were related to COVID-19 infection prevention behaviors. The factors influencing COVID-19 preventive behaviors were identified as knowledge (𝛽=.28, p<.001), attitude (𝛽=.25, p<.001), risk perception (𝛽=.18, p=003), 2th grade (𝛽=.19, p=.011), 3th grade (𝛽=.21, p=.006), 4th grade (𝛽=.20, p=.008), and gender (𝛽=.12, p=.033). Conclusion: The results of this study can be used for the development of health policies suitable for community infectious disease prevention behaviors and the development of infectious disease educational intervention programs.
Objective: This research was conducted to determine the breast cancer risk levels of women with and without previous mammography and their beliefs on breast cancer and mammography. Methods: The sample for this descriptive research consisted of women aged 50 years or older who were registered at the Family Health Center in the city center of Erzurum. The research was conducted with a total of 420 women with at least one mammography (210) and without mammography (210) who presented to the center on Wednesdays and Thursdays for any reason between 1 January 2010 and 1 January 2011. Research data were collected using the personal information "Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Form" accepted and recommended by the Turkish Ministry of Health, and the Champion's Health Belief Model Scale for Breast Cancer and Screening (CHBMS). Data were evaluated using percentages and means with the t-test. Results: According to the research data, 89.8% of the women were found to be in the low risk group, 87.6% with and 91.9% without mammography. When the health beliefs of women with and without mammography were compared, it was found that susceptibility, seriouness, motivation, mammography benefit scores were higher among those with mammography (p<0.01). The mammography barrier score average was higher in the group without mammography (p<0.01). Conclusion: Knowing women's health beliefs, which have positive and negative effects on participating in mammography screening, may increase the rate of mammography uptake among women. Moreover, women with high breast cancer risk may be determined by increasing society's level of knowledge on breast cancer and risk factors.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the scope of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of pregnant women about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine. Materials and Methods: A total of 886 pregnant women were recruited for the study. A cross-sectional questionnaire was conducted on these selected participants. Data about past infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), SARS-CoV-2 infection of closely related people, and deaths due to COVID-19 among their relatives were questioned. Results: The rate of vaccination was higher (64.1%) in pregnant women with higher education levels. Informing about the vaccine, especially by health professionals, showed that the rates of vaccination (25%) increased (p<0.001). In addition, a significant increase was observed in vaccination rates with increasing age and financial income (p<0.001). Conclusion: The main limitation of our study is that the vaccine, which was approved for "emergency use", was just started to be administered to pregnant women during the study. Our findings show that our target audience, low-income, low-education, younger pregnant women should be given more attention than those who apply to the doctor for routine follow-up.
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to identify knowledge of, attitude toward, and the importance of, sexuality in the elderly. Method: By convenience sampling, 152 elderly people aged 60 and over who registered at 3 elderly schools located in W city were selected. Knowledge and attitude toward sexuality were measured with ASKAS. Perceived importance toward sexuality was measured with an instrument developed by the investigator. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation. Results: Elderly males, elderly couples, and elders perceiving themselves as healthy reported higher scores in knowledge on and the importance of sexuality. Elderly males, elders with higher education, and elders perceiving themselves as healthy showed a more acceptable attitude toward sexuality. The higher knowledge of sexuality, the more acceptable the sexuality. The higher knowledge of and more acceptable attitude toward sexuality, the higher significance of sexuality. Conclusions: Sexuality is an important issue in elderly life. To improve knowledge, positive views of sexuality, recognition of its importance, education and consulting programs on sexuality need to be developed, reflecting characteristics of the elderly. These programs should be provided not only to the elderly but also to people caring for the elderly and their families.
The purpose of this study was to provide the effective pain management care for post operative patients through understanding patient's knowledge and attitude about pain-management. The data was collected by distributing structured questionnaires to 200 inpatients in 2 secondary hospitals located in Ulsan, beginning June 28, 2010 to August 11, 2010, and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient. The level of Knowledge about pain management postperations was $6.44{\pm}2.03$. The level of attitude about pain management postperations was $6.92{\pm}1.78$. The significant differences were founded within the inpatient's knowledge about pain management according to the inpatient's demographic data:Age(F=5.55, p=.01), Marital status(t=-2.17, p=.03). The significant differences were founded within the inpatient's attitude about pain management according to the inpatient's demographic data:Job(F=3.45, p=.03). Developing educational material and guidebooks is needed to form more positive about pain-control after operations. This study researched only inpatient's knowledge and attitude about pain-management, but researching nurses, doctors, inpatients and family member's knowledge and attitude should be included in following studies.
Purpose. This cross-sectional survey was conducted to described the compliance of Breast Self-Examination of middle-aged women using a convenient sample, and to examine relationships between the compliance of BSE and Health Beliefs, and the influencing factors on the compliance of BSE. Methods. The subjects were 373 literate volunteers who were from 41 to 60 years of age who visited 6 public health centers. From June 7, 2004 to August 20, 2004, data were collected by 5 research assistants using a self-report questionnaire. The questionnaire was used to obtain information on the general characteristics, knowledge, health beliefs, and compliance of BSE. Results. The findings of this study suggested that there were significant differences in the scores of the perceived susceptibility and severity between compliers and non-compliers of the BSE. BSE compliance was significantly correlated with knowledge, perceived susceptibility, and perceived severity. The most powerful predictor of BSE compliance was the perceived susceptibility. The perceived susceptibility, the perceived severity, the knowledge and educational level accounted for $41.8\%$ of the variance in middle aged women's BSE compliance. Conclusion. Increase in knowledge about breast cancer, with a concomitant increase in both perceived susceptibility and perceived severity could produce a subtle cue or motivating force sufficient to affect a behavior change. Further research is needed to examine the qualitative difference between BSE and other early detection behaviors.
The purpose of this study was to develop a standardized preschool oral health education program as one of educational media and to apply it to preschool education. It's ultimately meant to help improve the oral health education policy of the nation toward young children and to provide multiple information on that. The subjects in this study were 250 young children who were at the age of 7 and attended kindergartens in the city of S. To evaluate an oral health education program prepared in the study, the selected young children were taught by using it, and a survey was conducted twice before offering education and three weeks after it to assess their knowledge. Besides, their patient hygiene performance was tested. For data handling, SPSS program was utilized, and in order to see if there would be any changes in their oral health behaviors, statistical data on percentage were obtained and crosstab was employed. To track any possible additional changes in their relevant knowledge and Simplified Oral Hygiene Index, t-test was implemented. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for changes in oral health behaviors, there were significant differences in tooth brushing time(p<0.05), tooth brushing method(p<0.01) and toothbrush keeping method(p<0.001) between before and after the education. 2. Regarding changes in oral health knowledge, there was a significant gap between before and after the education(p<0.001). In detail, their knowledge about the cause of dental caries(p<0.05), the right choice of toothbrush(p<0.001) and toothbrushing after meals(p<0.01) became significantly different. 3. There was no gap in patient hygiene performance index between before and after the education. 4. To boost the effect of oral health education on kindergarteners, it seems necessary to give a lecture on oral health, to demonstrate tooth brushing by using dntiform, and to offer instruction by utilizing disclosing solution. 5. Repeated education should be provided on a regular basis by preparing standardized teaching plans tailored to the characteristics of kindergarteners, and a wide variety of teaching materials that could be easy to understand, authentic and provide motivation to them should be developed.
