Performance Analysis of Fingerprinting algorithms for Indoor Positioning (옥내 측위를 위한 지문 방식 알고리즘들의 성능 분석)

  • For the indoor positioning, wireless fingerprinting is most favorable because fingerprinting is most accurate among the techniques for wireless network based indoor positioning which does not require any special equipments dedicated for positioning. The deployment of a fingerprinting method consists of off-line phase and on-line phase. Off-line phase is not a time critical procedure, but on-line phase is indeed a time-critical procedure. If it is too slow then the user's location can be changed while it is calculating and the positioning method would never be accurate. Even so there is no research of improving efficiency of on-line phase of wireless fingerprinting. This paper proposes a decision-tree method for wireless fingerprinting and performs comparative analysis of the fingerprinting techniques including K-NN, Bayesian and our decision-tree.

Fire Detection of a Building Using Wireless Multi-point Temperature Sensors (무선 다점 온도센서에 의한 빌딩의 화재 탐지)

  • Fire accidents often happen in large buildings because large buildings are equipped with heavy electrical wiring and piping. When fire is to be occurred in those buildings, it is very dangerous to People and building structures. Therefore, multi-point wireless temperature sensors for large buildings are necessary in order to detect fire in the early time and thus to minimize the loss. A wireless device was composed of the transmitter and receiver. The specification of this device was as follows: 915MHz of transmitted frequency, 4 channels, 9600bps of the transmitted speed, and 10mW of the transmitted power. We confirmed through experiment that the temperature was well sensed and fire location was determined by the 4 channel sensors of the developed sensor system.

Multi-functional Automated Cultivation for House Melon;Development of Tele-robotic System (시설멜론용 다기능 재배생력화 시스템;원격 로봇작업 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, a prototype tele-operative system with a mobile base was developed in order to automate cultivation of house melon. A man-machine interactive hybrid decision-making system via tele-operative task interface was proposed to overcome limitations of computer image recognition. Identifying house melon including position data from the field image was critical to automate cultivation. And it was not simple especially when melon is covered partly by leaves and stems. The developed system was composed of 5 major modules: (a) main remote monitoring and task control module, (b) wireless remote image acquisition and data transmission module, (c) three-wheel mobile base mounted with a 4 dof articulated type robot manipulator (d) exchangeable modular type end tools, and (e) melon storage module. The system was operated through the graphic user interface using touch screen monitor and wireless data communication among operator, computer, and machine. Once task was selected from the task control and monitoring module, the analog signal of the color image of the field was captured and transmitted to the host computer using R.F. module by wireless. A sequence of algorithms to identify location and size of a melon was performed based on the local image processing. Laboratory experiment showed the developed prototype system showed the practical feasibility of automating various cultivating tasks of house melon.

Energy-Efficient Face Routing Protocol Considering Radio Range in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서 무선 반경을 고려한 에너지 효율적인 페이스 라우팅 프로토콜)

  • In wireless sensor networks, geographic routing is known as an efficient method to transmit the data packet using the location information. Geographic routing relies on two techniques: greedy forwarding and face routing. Face routing helps to recover from greedy routing fail and is based on the planar graph in which does not cross each edge. However, the planarization causes frequently short transmission of data packet because it removes other edges except the shortest one. In other words, since the planarization removes the long edges, face routing could not exploit the efficient removed edges of communication graph. This problem brings about the excessive energy consumption of nodes. In this paper, we propose an energy efficient face routing protocol in wireless sensor networks. This proposed protocol searches the removed edges and transmits them via the edges. Simulation shows that the proposed protocol is more efficient in terms of energy consumption than the previous face routing.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been considered as a promising method for reliably monitoring both civil and military environments under hazardous or dangerous conditions. Due to the special property and difference from the traditional wireless network, the lifetime of the whole network is the most important aspect. The bottleneck nodes widely exist in WSNs and lead to decrease the lifetime of the whole network. In order to find out the bottleneck nodes, the traditional centralized bottleneck detection method MINCUT has been proposed as a solution for WSNs. However they are impractical for the networks that have a huge number of nodes. This paper first proposes a distributed algorithm called DBND (Distributed Bottleneck Node detection) that can reduce the time for location information collection, lower the algorithm complexity and find out the bottleneck nodes quickly. We also give two simple suggestions of how to solve the bottleneck problem. The simulation results and analysis show that our algorithm achieves much better performance and our solutions can relax the bottleneck problem, resulting in the prolonging of the network lifetime.

  • This paper describes a control system for positioning the real-time locations of the autonomous warfare vehicles and infantry, and for avoiding collisions between them. The control system utilizes the low-cost RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) for positioning the locations of the wireless devices. The mathematical mean filtering processes are applied to the calculation of the RSS matrix to improve the performance for positioning the wireless devices in the multi-path propagation environment. A fuzzy rule is proposed to recover and replace the broken packets occurring in the wireless communication. The gradient and geometric triangulation algorithms are proposed to trace the real-time locations of wireless devices, based on the distances between them. The estimated location results of the geometric triangulation algorithm are compared with the results of the GPS and the gradient algorithm.

  • In this study, the applicability and practicality of landslides monitoring by using wireless sensor network (WSN) was analysed. WSN system consists of a sensor node for collecting and transmitting data using IEEE 802.14e standard, a gateway for collecting data and transmitting the data to the monitoring server. In the topology of the sensor network, a highly flexible and reliable mesh type was adopted, and three testbeds were chosen in each location of Seoul metropolitan area. Soil moisture sensors, tensiometers, inclinometers, and a rain gauge were installed at each testbed and sensor node to monitor the landslide. For the estimation of the optimal network topology between sensor nodes, the susceptibility assessment of landslides, forest density and viewshed analysis of terrain were conducted. As a result, the network connection works quite well and measured value of the volumetric water content and matric suction simulates well the general trend of the soil water characteristic curve by the laboratory test. As such, it is noted that WSN system, which is the reliable technique, can be applied to the landslide monitoring.

Two-Phase Localization Algorithm in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서의 2단계 위치 추정 알고리즘)

  • Sensor localization is one of the fundamental problems in wireless sensor networks. Previous localization algorithms can be classified into two categories, the GGB (Global Geometry-Based) approaches and the LGB (Local Geometry-Based). In the GGB approaches, there are a fixed set of reference nodes of which the coordinates are pre-determined. Other nodes determine their positions based on the distances from the fixed reference nodes. In the LGB approaches, meanwhile, the reference node set is not fixed, but grows up dynamically. Most GGB algorithms assume that the nodes are deployed in a convex shape area. They fail if either nodes are in a concave shape area or there are obstacles that block the communications between nodes. Meanwhile, the LGB approach is vulnerable to the errors in the distance estimations. In this paper, we propose new localization algorithms to cope with those two limits. The key technique employed in our algorithms is to determine, in a fully distributed fashion, if a node is in the line-of-sight from another. Based on the technique, we present two localization algorithms, one for anchor-based, another for anchor-free localization, and compare them with the previous algorithms.

A Micro Mobility Management Scheme in Wireless LAN Environments (무선 LAN환경에서 마이크로 이동성 지원 방안)

  • Mobile IP is a base protocol to support host mobility in IP-based wireless network. It is well known that the protocol contains two main delay factors on a handoff process; one is to detect a host movement, and the other is to register the host's current location to its home network. This paper examines Layer 2(L2) handoff procedure in the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN, and identifies these L2 triggers that can be usefully applied to Layer 3(L3) handoff. Then, the MCAA(Multiple-Casting using Anchor Agent) mechanism is proposed. It makes use of the L2 trigger and the network topology to construct an anchor agent dynamically, and the multiple-casting scheme to prevent an ongoing packet to be lost. Using a network simulator, the proposed mechanism has been evaluated the handoff delay and the packet lost point of view, in comparison with the regional registration protocol which is the most well known micro mobility support mechanism.

  • This paper was proposed Intelligent and wireless USN/RFID module system that can overcome disadvantage of existing RFID system with no sensing module and wire communication. The proposed USN/RFID system was designed and fabricated. After fabricating new system, we analyzed the characteristics of USN/RFID module. After design VCO block that is point circuit to develop next generation system one chip of RFID system, we were carried out simulation and verified the validity. this paper was showed that VCO system was enough usable in wireless network module. USN/RFID Reader module shows superior result that validity awareness distance corresponds to 30 M in the case of USN and to 5 M in RFID Reader's case and 900 MHz of commercial frequency does practical use enoughly in range of high frequency. The USN/RFID Reader module is considered to act big role to Ubiqitous industry offering computing surrounding of new concept that is intelligence type service and that was associated to real time location system(RTLS), environment improvement/supervision, national defense, traffic administration etc.
