  • Korean traditional house has inherented construction characteristics that contain human requirements with the adaptation to nature's order. As for traditional buildings, there are a lot of facilities like palaces, Buddhist temples, Confucianism architectures, government facilities, etc. Among them, housing construction is not only closely connected to our lives, but also plays an important role to connect our lives from the past to present. The master room in a traditional korean house is responsible for playing a center role of the residential life which implies the traditional values responsible for multi-functions and it is also the sphere of the living space. Therefore, this thesis considers the residential environmental adjustment method and the behaviors centered around the main buildings of Jeonnam Province. And also investigates the main reason for windows and doors formation. From this, we would like to further evaluate the master room life, and the inner space constructions following the spacial and organizational analysis of windows and doors. We would like to analyze the space organization methods, environmental adjustment methods and the usages of traditional buildings. Using the modern interpretation as basis, we would like to use the foundation materials to reflect single family housing plans.

  • Purpose: "Building energy design standard" is used to limit the thermal transmittance of building in Korea. However, it only covers the insulation standard for each appropriate elements of a building, not the thermal performance of Junction thermal bridge of windows and doors installed in wall. Therefore in this study, we have evaluated the thermal performance of Junction thermal bridge depending on installation method and position of windows and provide it as design data. Method: We analyzed heat transfer of 4-Track sliding window and tilt & turn triple glazed window that are placed in the first class category on window energy efficiency rating using Window 7.4 and Therm 7.4. Result : First, linear thermal transmittance of 4-Track sliding window differs by 2.2 times or more depending of installation method and location. It is higher than the linear thermal transmittance, 0.01W/mK, proposed by Passivhaus. Second, linear thermal transmittance of Tilt & turn triple glazed window differs by 7.7 times or more depending of installation method and location. The average linear thermal transmittance was less than 0.01W /mK when windows were installed on the internal wall insulation by the fixed hardware attachment method. Third, the thermal losses of a window caused by a junction thermal bridge are inversely proportional to the window area and converge gradually as the area increased.

  • Nowdays the apartment is a main type of modernized residential buildings. According to the improvement of construction techniques and functions of windows and doors, recent apartments are enhanced air tightness of windows, doors and building envelopes. As Infiltration is decreased and natural ventilation is reduced, energy could be saved in winter. However, indoor air quality is bad. The air Infiltration of a building could be enlarged by physical actions, such as building designs, constructions and reduction of air tightness which is caused by aging. This research analyzes and measures with KNS-4000P (Sapporo air tightness measurement) the air tightness of the high rise apartments which is recently constructed and not occupied yet. With depressurization method, the KNS-4000 installed on the window and the indoor air-leakage was measured. At that time, Air come out from the edge of the windows and doors because of the pressure differences between indoor and outdoor. We measure the amount of the air as effective air leakage areas. This method of depressurization takes less time to measure than other methods and is less affected from other conditions. We measured infiltration of total 56 household, 29 households S apartment (total floor area : $64.42m^2$) in Balan and 29 households D apartment(total floor area : $78.21m^2$) in Chonan. As a result of the field measurements at October 2003, normalized leakage area of D apartment in Cheonan was $2.05cm^2/m^2{\sim}3.49cm^2/m^2$ (average: $2.77cm^2/m^2$) and normalized leakage area of S apartment in Balan is $1.23cm^2/m^2{\sim}1.68cm^2/m^2$ (average: $1.5cm^2/m^2$).

  • Human beings at the beginning of the world have tried to gain mental and physical satisfaction from nature. However, as it became difficult to find such satisfaction in nature, an advanced civilization was created that confronted nature by developing a unique environment. In this process of confrontation, an ecological crisis occurred. As an alternative to solve this problem, there began interest in the ecological paradigm of many fields, and the domain of space design for living became the center of attention. Korean traditional architecture has ecological characteristics suitable for Koreas nature and climate. When discussing Korean traditional architecture from the viewpoint of an ecological paradigm, studies have been based on the understanding that it is the entire combination of structures existing with and as a part of a natural ecosystem rather than the use of independent and individual structures like that of Western architecture. In particular, Korean traditional windows and doors are examples of maintaining an ecological essence by accepting natural surroundings and have important meaning in the subject of ecological space design, but its unfortunate that theyre not utilized in contemporary Korean architecture. Focusing on these discrepancies, this study aims to make traditional windows and doors native to Korea the subject of discussion and to expand the area of study in Korean traditional architecture.

  • Creating different cutout shapes in order to make doors and windows, reduce the structural weight or implement various mechanisms increases the likelihood of buckling in thin-walled structures. In this study, the effect of cutout shape and geometric imperfection (GI) is simultaneously investigated on the critical buckling load and knock-down factor (KDF) of composite cylindrical shells. The GI is modeled using single perturbation load approach (SPLA). First, in order to assess the finite element model, the critical buckling load of a composite shell without cutout obtained by SPLA is compared with the experimental results available in the literature. Then, the effect of different shapes of cutout such as circular, elliptic and square, and perturbation load imperfection (PLI) is investigated on the buckling behavior of cylindrical shells. Results show that the critical buckling load of a shell without cutout decreases by increasing the PLI, whereas increasing the PLI does not have a great impact on the critical buckling load in the presence of cutout imperfection. Increasing the cutout area reduces the effect of the PLI, which results in an increase in the KDF.
