  • Windows provides Directshow for efficient multimedia streaming processings such as multimedia capture, storage, display and etc. Presently, many motion picture codecs and audio codecs are made to be used in Directshow framework and Windows also supports many codecs (MPEG4, H,263, WMV, WMA, ASF, etc.) in addition to a lot of useful tools for multimedia streaming processing. Therefore, Directshow can be effectively utilized for developing windows-based multimedia streaming applications such as visual monitoring systems which needs to store real-time video data for later retrieval. In this paper, we present our efforts for developing a Directshow Filter System supporting storage of motion pictures in various motion picture codecs. Our Directshow Filter system also provides an additional functionality of motion detection.

An Algorithm for the Traveling Salesperson Problem with Time Windows and Lateness Costs

  • This paper presents a model and dynamic programming based algorithm for the Traveling Salesperson Problem with Time Windows (TSPTW). The main difference of our model compared with the previous ones lies in that the time windows we are concerned are far more flexible and realistic. In the typical TSPTW, the service at a node must begin within the time grid called the time window that is defined by the earliest and the latest time to start the service at the node. But, in real business practices, a lateness cost is usually penalized rather than the service is prohibited at all when a vehicle arrives after the latest time. Considering this situation, we propose a model with a new time window that allows an arrival after the latest time and penalizes the late arrival by charging a lateness cost. An algorithm introduced for the model is extensively tested to verify the accuracy and efficiency.

  • This study implemented a remote control system using PDA based on WINDOWS CE. NET. In existing remote control systems, the user generally controls remote objects and obtain data using a computer, which is a local system connected to the internet, and the remote objects are connected to server computers. In order to control remote objects, the user has to have a computer, a space to use the Internet, and wired internet. The system proposed in this study uses an embedded board as a server and PDA as a client. Thus, the user can control remote objects at any place as long as wireless internet is available. In addition, because an embedded board is used as a server, the system has the characteristics of high performance and low power consumption. The proposed system provides not only remote control environment using PDA but also conventional control environment using a computer as a client. In case PDA is not available, remote objects still can be controlled from any place as long as there are wired internet and a computer.

  • High-rise apartments have a problem using natural ventilation because of the strong outdoor wind velocity. Conventional high-rise apartments have adopted mechanical ventilation systems to maintain the indoor air quality. However, it leads to the overuse of electricity and the sick house syndrome. Double-skin facade is the alternative for the high-rise building to use natural ventilation and this study is focused on the performance of the box-window, which is a kind of double-skin facades. Indoor wind velocity and HCHO concentrations are analyzed with three types of box-windows: the diagonal type, parallel type and perpendicular type. The airflow is simulated by computational fluid dynamics program. Box-windows reduce the maximum value of indoor wind velocity about 50% compared with the single window and the HCHO concentrations do not have the big difference. Box-windows could be the alternative to enhance the use of the natural ventilation and indoor air quality of the high-rise apartment.

  • IT security companies have been releasing file system filter driver security solutions based on the whitelist, which are being used by several enterprises in the relevant industries. However, in February 2019, a whitelist vulnerability was discovered in Microsoft Edge browser, which allows malicious code to be executed unknown to users. If a hacker had inserted a program that executed malicious code into the whitelist, it would have resulted in considerable damage. File system filter driver security solutions based on the whitelist are discretionary access control (DAC) models. Hence, the whitelist is vulnerable because it only considers the target subject to be accessed, without taking into account the access rights of the file target object. In this study, we propose an industrial device security system for Windows to address this vulnerability, which improves the security of the security policy by determining not only the access rights of the subject but also those of the object through the application of the mandatory access control (MAC) policy in the Windows industrial operating system. The access control method does not base the security policy on the whitelist; instead, by investigating the setting of the security policy not only for the subject but also the object, we propose a method that provides improved stability, compared to the conventional whitelist method.

  • In this paper, We proposed a pseudo-random bit sequence generator based on the concept of n-dimensional cellular automata which is a method of analyzing dynamical systems. The proposed generator is designed for using and disusing key. And the key size is variable from 128 bits to 256 bits. The generator was estimated to generate 380Mbits/sec under Pentium MMX 200MHz (64M RAM, Windows 98).

  • Most industrial logistic systems have focused on carrying products from manufacturers or distribution centers to customers. In recent years, they are faced with the problem of integrating reverse flows into their transportation systems. In this paper, we address the vehicle routing problems with mixed delivery and pick-up(VRPMDP). Mixed operation of delivery and pick-up during a vehicle tour requires rearrangement of the goods on board. The VRPMDP considers the reshuffling time of goods at customers, hard time windows, and split operation of delivery and pick-up. We construct a mixed integer mathematical model and propose a new genetic algorithm named GAMP for VRPMDP. Computational experiments on various types of test problems are performed to evaluate GAMP against the modified Dethloff's algorithm. The results show that GAMP reduces the total vehicle operation time by 5.9% on average, but takes about six times longer computation time.

  • We studied the technique which can control the real system without additional hardware drivers using virtual machine driver operated on the windows operating system. We showed the feasibility of the proposed scheme under the error and the delay of a sampling time on the multi task processing through the load test of the experiment using graphic user interface.

  • The Virtual Interface Architecture (VIA) is usually suggested as a new standard high-performance communication of the cluster systems. However the VIA specification aims for platform independence, the current Intel VI Provider Library (VIPL) design favors systems with Intel architecture processors running the Windows operating system (OS).   • This paper proposes a design method of a CDU(Control Display Unit) for commercial INS(Inertial Navigation Systems). In order to guarantee reusability and extendability, the design method is based on the class programming of the Windows operating system. Since the CDU has abstracted functions and variables, it can be interfaced with any INS. It is also easy to extend the designed functions using inheritance and polymorphism of the class. In order to show usefulness of the CDU, it has been implemented for the H-726 INS.
