A trajectory control system plays an important role in controlling motions of marine vehicle when a series of way points or a path is given. In this paper, a sliding mode control (SMC)-based trajectory tracking controller for marine vehicles is presented. A small-sized unmanned ship is considered as a control object. Both speed and heading angle of a ship should be controlled for tracking control. The common point of related researches was to separate ship's speed and heading angle in control methods. In this research, a new control law from a general sliding mode theory that can be applied to MIMO (multi input multi output) system is derived and both speed and heading angle of a ship can be controlled simultaneously. The propulsion force and rudder force are also applied in modeling stage to achieve accurate simulation. Disturbance induced by wind is also tackled in the dynamics considering robustness of the proposed control scheme. In the simulation, we employed a way-point method to generate ship's trajectory and applied the proposed control scheme to ship's trajectory tracking control. Our results confirmed that the tracking error was converged to zero, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Sea surface winds in the sea off the east coast of Korea were derived from L-band ALOS (Advanced Land Observing Satellite) PALSAR (Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) data and their characteristics of errors were analyzed. We could retrieve high-resolution wind vectors off the east coast of Korea including the coastal region, which has been substantially unavailable from satellite scatterometers. Retrieved SAR-wind speeds showed a good agreement with in-situ buoy measurement by showing relatively small an root-mean-square (RMS) error of 0.67 m/s. Comparisons of the wind vectors from SAR and scatterometer presented RMS errors of 2.16 m/s and $19.24^{\circ}$, 3.62 m/s and $28.02^{\circ}$ for L-band GMF (Geophysical Model Function) algorithm 2009 and 2007, respectively, which tended to be somewhat higher than the expected limit of satellite scatterometer winds errors. L-band SAR-derived wind field exhibited the characteristic dependence on wind direction and incidence angle. The previous version (L-band GMF 2007) revealed large errors at small incidence angles of less than $21^{\circ}$. By contrast, the L-band GMF 2009, which improved the effect of incidence angle on the model function by considering a quadratic function instead of a linear relationship, greatly enhanced the quality of wind speed from 6.80 m/s to 1.14 m/s at small incident angles. This study addressed that the causes of wind retrieval errors should be intensively studied for diverse applications of L-band SAR-derived winds, especially in terms of the effects of wind direction and incidence angle, and other potential error sources.

This study is to evaluate the accuracy of the meteorological information provided for the aircraft operating at low altitude. At first, it is necessary to identify crucial elements of weather information closely related to flight safety during low altitude flights. The study conducted a survey of pilots of low altitude aircraft, divided into pre-flight and in-flight phases, and reached an opinion that wind direction, wind speed, cloud coverage and ceiling and visibility are important items. Related to these items, we compared and calculated the accuracy of TAFs and METARs from Taean Airfield, Seosan Airport and Gunsan Airport because of their high number of domestic low-altitude flights. Accuracy analysis evaluated the accuracy of two numerical variables, Mean Absolute Error(MAE) and Root Mean Square Error(RMSE), and the cloud coverage which is categorical variable was calculated and compared by accuracy. For numeric variables, one-way ANOVA, which is a parameter-test, was approached to identify differences between actual forecast values and observations based on absolute errors for each item derived from the results of MAE and RMSE accuracy analyses. To determine the satisfaction of both normality assumptions and equivalence variability assumptions, the Shapiro-Wilk test was performed to verify that they do not have a normality distribution for numerical variables, and for the non-parametric test, Kruscal-Wallis test was conducted to determine whether or not they are satisfied.
Photovoltaic generation which has unlimited energy sources are very intermittent because they depend on the weather. Therefore, it is necessary to get accurate generation prediction with reducing the uncertainty of photovoltaic generation and improvement of the economics. The Meteorological Agency predicts weather factors for three days, but doesn't predict the sunshine and solar radiation that are most correlated with the prediction of photovoltaic generation. In this study, we predict sunshine and solar radiation using weather, precipitation, wind direction, wind speed, humidity, and cloudiness which is forecasted for three days at Meteorological Agency. The photovoltaic generation forecasting model is proposed by using predicted solar radiation and sunshine. As a result, the proposed model showed better results in the error rate indexes such as MAE, RMSE, and MAPE than the model that predicts photovoltaic generation without radiation and sunshine. In addition, DNN showed a lower error rate index than using SVM, which is a type of machine learning.

The influence of leodo Ocean Research Station structure to surrounding atmospheric flow is carefully investigated using CFD techniques. Moreover, the validation works of computational results are performed by the comparison with the observed data of leodo Ocean Research station. In this paper, we performed 3-dimensional CAD modelling of the station, generated the grid system for numerical analysis and carried out flow analyses using Navier-Stokes equations coupled with two-equation turbulence model. For suitable free stream conditions of wind speed and direction, the interference of the research station structure on the flow field is predicted. Beside, the computational results are benchmarked by observed data to confirm the accuracy of measured date and reliable data range of each measuring position according to the wind direction. Through the results of this research, now the quantitative evaluation of the error range of interfered gauge data is possible, which is expected to be applied to provide base data of accurate sea surface wind around research stations.
Numerical weather prediction experiments were carried out by applying topographic effects to reduce or enhance the solar radiation by terrain. In this study, x and ${\kappa}({\phi}_o,\;{\theta}_o)$ are precalculated for topographic effect on high resolution numerical weather prediction (NWP) with 1 km spatial resolution, and meteorological variables are analyzed through the numerical experiments. For the numerical simulations, cases were selected in winter (CASE 1) and summer (CASE 2). In the CASE 2, topographic effect was observed on the southward surface to enhance the solar energy reaching the surface, and enhance surface temperature and temperature at 2 m. Especially, the surface temperature is changed sensitively due to the change of the solar energy on the surface, but the change of the precipitation is difficult to match of topographic effect. As a result of the verification using Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) Automated Weather System (AWS) data on Seoul metropolitan area, the topographic effect is very weak in the winter case. In the CASE 1, the improvement of accuracy was numerically confirmed by decreasing the bias and RMSE (Root mean square error) of temperature at 2 m, wind speed at 10 m and relative humidity. However, the accuracy of rainfall prediction (Threat score (TS), BIAS, equitable threat score (ETS)) with topographic effect is decreased compared to without topographic effect. It is analyzed that the topographic effect improves the solar radiation on surface and affect the enhancements of surface temperature, 2 meter temperature, wind speed, and PBL height.

The purpose of this study is to build urban canopy model (Met Office Reading Urban Surface Exchange Scheme, MORUSES) based to Unified Model (UM) by using urban building information data in Seoul, and then to compare the improving urban canopy model simulation result with that of Seoul Automatic Weather Station (AWS) observation site data. UM-MORUSES is based on building information database in London, we performed a sensitivity experiment of UM-MOURSES model using urban building information database in Seoul. Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis of 1.5 km resolution Seoul building data is applied instead of London building information data. Frontal-area index and planar-area index of Seoul are used to calculate building height. The height of the highest building in Seoul is 40m, showing high in Yeoido-gu, Gangnam-gu and Jamsil-gu areas. The street aspect ratio is high in Gangnam-gu, and the repetition rate of buildings is lower in Eunpyeong-gu and Gangbuk-gu. UM-MORUSES model is improved to consider the building geometry parameter in Seoul. It is noticed that the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of wind speed is decreases from 0.8 to 0.6 m s-1 by 25 number AWS in Seoul. The surface air temperature forecast tends to underestimate in pre-improvement model, while it is improved at night time by UM-MORUSES model. This study shows that the post-improvement UM-MORUSES model can provide detailed Seoul building information data and accurate surface air temperature and wind speed in urban region.

The movement of drifting ships on the sea is closely related to marine environmental forces such as waves, currents, winds, etc. To develop a prediction model for trajectories oi drifting ships, an experiment on the movement of drifting ships was carried out in the Southeastern Sea of Korea. Five types of ships including a lire raft and tour ships with G/T 10tons, G/T 2o tons, G/T 50 tons, and G/T 80 tons, were considered in the experiment. The G/T 50 ton class ship was used as a base ship for obtaining the currents, winds and heading angles of ship following the trajectory. The trajectory of each ship was measured by DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) and collected using APRS(Automatic Position Reporting System) installed on the base ship. The error range in position fix of DGPS are approximately ±1 m. The drift speed of ship in the experiment was between 3% to 5% of wind speed and drift direction of ship was deflected by ±90° from wind direction. Also, the heading of drifting ship was normal to wind direction.
