In this research, CFD calculation was implemented to analyze wind tunnel effect or rotor experiment in wind tunnel. One case included model wind turbine and all wind tunnel geometries. The other case include only rotor and nacelle system. Star-CCM+ was used for CFD analysis and rigid body motion around rotor area was applied to simulate rotating rotor. As for turbulence model, K-omega SST was used. The results were compared in 15m/s inflow condition. These results shows a good agreement with the measurement. Then, the result without wind tunnel was slightly different to the result with wind tunnel. Thus, in the case of Mexnex wind tunnel measurement, the wind tunnel don't affect the measurement result. Then, this wind tunnel and rotor size ratio can be reference for wind tunnel experiment of wind turbine rotor.

Onshore wind turbines may experience substantially different wind loads depending on their working conditions, i.e. rotation velocity of rotor blades, incoming freestream wind velocity, pitch angle of rotor blades, and yaw angle of the wind-turbine tower. In the present study, aerodynamic loads acting on a horizontal axis wind turbine were accordingly quantified for the high tip speed ratio (TSR) at high yaw angles because these conditions have previously not been adequately addressed. This was analyzed experimentally on a small-scale wind-turbine model in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The wind-tunnel simulation of the neutrally stratified atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) developing above a flat terrain was generated using the Counihan approach. The ABL was simulated to achieve the conditions of a wind-turbine model operating in similar inflow conditions to those of a prototype wind turbine situated in the lower atmosphere, which is another important aspect of the present work. The ABL and wind-turbine simulation length scale factors were the same (S=300) in order to satisfy the Jensen similarity criterion. Aerodynamic loads experienced by the wind-turbine model subjected to the ABL simulation were studied based on the high frequency force balance (HFFB) measurements. Emphasis was put on the thrust force and the bending moment because these two load components have previously proven to be dominant compared to other load components. The results indicate several important findings. The loads were substantially higher for TSR=10 compared to TSR=5.6. In these conditions, a considerable load reduction was achieved by pitching the rotor blades. For the blade pitch angle at 90°, the loads were ten times lower than the loads of the rotating wind-turbine model. For the blade pitch angle at 12°, the loads were at 50% of the rotating wind-turbine model. The loads were reduced by up to 40% through the yawing of the wind-turbine model, which was observed both for the rotating and the parked wind-turbine model.
GFRP based composite rotor blades were developed for 750kW & 2MW wind turbines. The blade sectional geometry was designed to have a general shell-spar and shear web structure. For verifying the structural safety under all relevant extreme loads specified in the GL guidelines, the structural analysis of the rotor blades was performed using commercial FEM codes. The static load carrying capacity, blade tip deflections and natural frequencies were evaluated to satisfy the strength and stability requirements. Full-scale proof tests of rotor blades were carried out with optical fiber sensors for real-time condition monitoring. Finally, the prototype of each rotor blade passed all proof tests for GL certification.

This paper describes the flow field and the blade pressure distribution of a horizontal axis wind turbine in various yawed flow conditions. These measurements were carried out with 2.4m-diameter rotor with pressure sensors and a 2-dimensional laser Doppler velocimeter for each azimuth angle in a wind tunnel. The results show that aerodynamic forces of the blade based on the pressure measurements change according to the local angle of attack during rotation. Therefore the wake of the yawed rotor becomes asymmetric for the rotor axis. Furthermore, the relations between aerodynamic forces and azimuth angles change according to tip speed ratio. By the experimental analysis, the flow field and the aerodynamic forces for each azimuth angle in yawed flow condition were clarified.
The wind turbine blade is a very important part of the rotor. Extraction of energy from wind depends on the design of blade. In this work, the analysis is done on a blade of length 38.95 m which is designed for V82-1.65 MW horizontal axis wind turbine (supplied by Vestas). The airfoil taken for the blade is NACA 634-221 which is same from root to tip. The analysis of designed blade is done in flap-wise loading. Two shapes of the spar are taken, one of them is of square shape and the other one is combination of square and cross shape. The blade and spar are of the same composite material. The Finite element analysis of designed blade is done in ANSYS. This work is focused on the two segments of blade, root segment and transition segment. Result obtained from ANSYS is compared with the experimental work.

Aerodynamic loads for a horizontal axis wind turbine of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI rotor in yawed condition were predicted by using the blade element momentum theorem. The classical blade element momentum theorem was complemented by several aerodynamic corrections and models including the Pitt and Peters' yaw correction, Buhl's wake correction, Prandtl's tip loss model, Du and Selig's three-dimensional (3-D) stall delay model, etc. Changes of the aerodynamic loads according to the azimuth angle acting on the span-wise location of the NREL Phase VI blade were compared with the experimental data with various yaw angles and inflow speeds. The computational flow chart for the classical blade element momentum theorem was adequately modified to accurately calculate the combined functions of additional corrections and models stated above. A successive under-relaxation technique was developed and applied to prevent possible failure during the iteration process. Changes of the angle of attack according to the azimuth angle at the specified radial location of the blade were also obtained. The proposed numerical procedure was verified, and the predicted data of aerodynamic loads for the NREL Phase VI rotor bears an extremely close resemblance to those of the experimental data.
To get more realistic wind turbine torque characteristic, it is important to consider many parameters about wind turbine system. One of them is the tower effect which is occurred when a blade is bypassing the wind turbine tower and influences shaft torque fluctuation. In this paper, to emulate the similar torque performance of wind turbine, the wind turbine simulation and experiment with torque fluctuation by blade tower effect are implemented and verified. The simulation model is based on MATLAB Simulink.

This paper describes the cycloidal wind turbine, which is a straight blade vertical axis wind turbine using the cycloidal blade system. Cycloidal blade system consists of several blades rotating about an axis in parallel direction. Each blade changes its pitch angle periodically. Cycloidal wind turbine is different from the previous turbines. The wind turbine operates with optimum rotating forces through active control of the blade to change pitch angle and phase angle according to the changes of wind direction and wind speed. Various numerical experiments were conducted to develop a small vertical axis wind turbine of 1 kW class. For this numerical analysis, the rotor system equips four blades consisting of a symmetric airfoil NACA0018 of 1.0m in span, 0.22m in chord and 1.0m in radius. A general purpose commercial CFD program, STAR-CD, was used for numerical analysis. PCL of MSC/PATRAN was used for efficient parametric auto mesh generation. Variables of wind speed, pitch angle, phase angle and rotating speed were set in the numerical experiments. The generated power was obtained according to the various combinations of these variables. Optimal pitch angle and phase angle of cycloidal blade system were obtained according to the change of the wind direction and the wind speed. Based on data obtained from the above analysis, control device was designed. The wind direction and the wind speed were sensed by a wind indicator and an anemometer. Each blades were actuated to optimal performance values by servo motors.
The 3-dimensional flow field has been investigated by numerical analysis in a 2.5MW wind turbine blade. Complicated and separated flaw phenomena in the wind turbine blade were captured by the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) steady flaw simulation using general-purpose code, CFX and the mechanism of vortex structure behavior is elucidated. The vortical flow field in a wind turbine rotor is dominated by the tip vortex and hub separation vortex. The tip vortex starts to be formed near the blade tip leading edge. As the tip vortex develops in the tangential direction, interacting with boundary layer from the blade tip trailing edge. The hub separation vortex is generated near the blade hub leading edge and develops nearly in the span-wise direction. Furthermore, 3-dimensional blade tip shape has been designed for increasing shrift power and reducing thrust force on the wind turbine blade. It is expected that the behavior of the tip vortex and hub separation vortex plays a major role in aerodynamic and aeroacoustic characteristics.

The purpose of this study is to define the optimized layer pattern of composite wind turbine blade by using a commercial FEM program and to perform the fatigue test of T-Bolt. FEM analysis is done by using a PATRAN and ABAQUS to get a information about stress distribution ,critical deformation shape and get a critical load factor in local buckling analysis. As a result of the linear and nonlinear structural analysis, layer pattern of blade was optimized. T-Bolt is a connecting part of wind turbine blade and rotor hub, therefore T-bolt is cirtical part of wind turbine blade. T-bolt fatigue test is conducted to get a information of life cycle of T-bolt. The test is done by using a hydraulic actuator system
