A low-resolution national wind map, which is a prerequisite for setting up the national dissemination target and strategy of wind energy development, has been established by numerical wind simulation using the synoptic wind map, developed at the first stage, as an upper boundary condition. Based on the wind map, Wind Resource Information System has been composed in order to support scientific and systematic wind resource assessment and analysis.
Hybrid wind Diesel stand-alone power systems are considered economically viable and effective to create balance between production and load demand in remote areas where the wind speed is considerable for electric generation, and also, electric energy is not easily available from the grid. In Wind diesel hybrid system, the wind energy system is the main constitute and diesel system forms the back up. This type of hybrid power system saves fuel cost, improves power capacity to meet the increasing demand and maintains the continuity of supply in the system. Problem we face in this system is that even after producing enough power through wind turbine system, considerable portion of this power needs to be dumped due to short term oversupply of power and to maintain the frequency within close tolerances. As a result remaining portion of total energy supplied comes from the diesel generator to overcome the temporal energy shortage. This scenario decreases the overall efficiency of hybrid power system. In this study, efficient Simulink modeling for wind-diesel hybrid system is proposed and some simulations study is carried out to verify the feasibility of the proposed scheme.
In accordance with the policy of local government, the large scale of wind farms have been installed in Jeju power system. However, The intermittent characteristics of wind power output may cause grid voltage and frequency variation, especially in weak power system. One of the solution to solve this problem is installation of Energy storage system (ESS). In this case, the ESS will regulate the active power generated from wind farm to mitigate fluctuation. Actually, the local government of Jeju island constructed ESS connected to Hangwon wind turbine in 2016. From this point, this paper analyzes requirement capacity of ESS to mitigate wind power fluctuation based on measured data from Hangwon wind turbine and ESS. The simulation results will be carried out by Matlab program.
In order to clarify characteristics of variation in wind energy over a long-term period, an investigation was carried out at Seoguang site on Jeju island. The wind data for 10 years from Automatic Weather System (AWS) were analyzed for each year. The variation in the annual energy production (AEP) for the 2 MW wind turbine was estimated through statistical work. The result shows that the range of the yearly average wind speed at 15 m above ground level for 10 years was from -22.6% to +13.7%, which is wider range than that in Japan. The coefficient of variation for the AEP was 22.7%, which is about twice of that for the yearly average wind speed. Therefore, for estimating the wind energy potential accurately at a given site, the wind data should be analyzed over a long-term period based on the data from the meteorological station.
we studied a data acquisition and control system of a wind turbine for measuring and controlling a voltage fluctuations of a wind turbine system. The wind turbine system is installed out control area. So, it is so important for supervising to wind turbine of a maintenance, wind speed, optical resources wind turbine output, wind speed, wind direction, over voltage of a generator. This system can be supplied a data of over voltage, under voltage, voltage fluctuations of a wind turbine for controlling an EMS : Energy Management System or a SCADA : Supervision Control and Data Acquisition at a constitute of a wind farm. The of voltage fluctuation system of a wind turbine is improving an electric power supply power quality of a distribution line and unspecified individuals of used wind turbine.
Wind energy has been more and more important and contributive in the energy utilization of the world. This paper proposed a novel method for Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS), in which a secondary control hydrostatic transmission (SC-HST) with two hydraulic accumulators, were employed for wind energy conversion system. This approach can absorb the excessive power of turbine, keep the generator from over-speed and maintain the speed of generator in low speed of turbine. A PID controller was designed for speed control to track a predefined speed. The simulation results indicated that the speed of the generator was ensured with the relative error less than 2%; and the efficiency of the proposed system was 70.4%.
This paper describes the operation mode development for the grid-tied PMSG(permanent magnet synchronous generator) wind power system combined with a battery energy storage. The development of operation modes was carried out through simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software and experiments with a 10kW hardware prototype. The detailed simulation models for PMSG wind power system and battery energy storage were developed using user-defined models programed with C-code. A 10kW hardware simulator was built and tested in connection with the local load and the utility power. The simulation and experimental results confirm that the grid-tied PMSG wind power system combined with battery energy storage can supply highly reliable power to the local load in various operation modes.
An investigation on reliability of reanalysis wind data was conducted using the met mast wind data at four coastal regions, Jeju Island. Shinchang, Handong, Udo and Gangjeong sites were chosen for the met mast sites, and ERA-Interim and MERRA reanalysis data at two points on the sea around Jeju Island were analyzed for creating Wind Statistics of WindPRO software. Reliability of reanalysis wind data was assessed by comparing the statistics from the met mast wind data with those from Wind Statistics of WindPRO software. The relative error was calculated for annual average wind speed, wind power density and annual energy production. In addition, Weibull wind speed distribution and monthly energy production were analyzed in detail. As a result, ERA-Interim reanalysis data was more suitable for wind resource assessment than MERRA reanalysis data.
This paper presents an optimal design of a direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator for a small-scale wind energy conversion system. An analytical model of a small-scale grid-connected wind energy conversion system is presented, and the effects of generator design parameters on the payback period of the system are investigated. An optimization procedure based on genetic algorithm method is then employed to optimize four design parameters of the generator for use in a region with relatively low wind-speed. The aim of optimization is minimizing the payback period of the initial investment on wind energy conversion systems for residential applications. This makes the use of these systems more economical and appealing. Finite element method is employed to evaluate the performance of the optimized generator. The results obtained from finite element analysis are close to those achieved by analytical model.
As the world supply of fossil fuel sources decreases, the need for efficient energy consevation and develping green energy technologies becomes critical. Because of the high cost of the foundation for large turbines and optional high wind speed (over 12 m/s), it is very difficult to be located at inland city. For the solution above mentioned problem, we have been experimented about that not only using the adaption of wind power system on buildings for improving turbine efficiency, but also applying a wound rotor type induction generator for a small wind turbine. In this research, we try to find out the wind direction and wind speed those were measured every 1 min., during operation period, using the anemometers which consist of horizontally spinning cups on a vertical post. Performance testing for small wind turbine generating system was carried out by using the induction motor and invertor. Finally, we measured the power of 1 kW wind turbine system with the clamp meter and a voltmeter.
