  • To predict rolling performance for a barge-type FPSO, the evaluation of correct nonlinear roll damping is critical. The square section of FPSO causes a considerable viscous damping effect. Free roll decay tests were carried out to estimate nonlinear roll damping for a barge-type FPSO, under three different conditions. The roll motion RAO was deduced from model tests in the wave condition of the wideband spectrum. In numerical calculation, the quadratic damping was considered as equivalent linear damping, using the results of free roll decay test. Tested roll performance in the JONSWAP wave spectrum was compared with numerical results. These two results shaw good agreement, in spite of the proximity of peak wave period and roll natural period.

  • This study discusses the multiple knife-edge diffraction loss with the receiver and jammer located in the Seoul metropolitan northwestern region. The considered positioning and jamming signals are the GPS L1 C/A signal and several jamming signals such as the wideband Gaussian noise, matched spectrum, and continuous wave signals. To calculate the accurate diffraction effects, the 3-dimensional topography data at the Seoul metropolitan northwestern region was used.

  • Experimental results and data of numerical simulations are presented, concerning generation of wideband radio frequency (RF) oscillations in a nonlinear transmission line (NLTL) which contains a pre-magnetized core of ferrite material. Emphasis is made on the means for extracting the RF signal from the line, in order to radiate it into free space. Antennas of two types that can be used for the purpose are considered, both featuring a coaxial design. This permits availing of the principal advantages of coaxial systems, such as operation in the mode of a traveling TEM wave; wide range of the transmitted frequencies, and a reasonably simple design. The antennas studied, specifically a disc-cone dipole (DCD) and an impulse reflector antenna ('Half-IRA', or HIRA type) differ significantly in effective width of the radiated spectrum and in spatial characteristics of the radiated field in far region.

  • In this paper, a wideband SAW convolver using a parabolic horn waveguide was designed and its characteristics were investigated. The convolver was made with parabolic horn waveguide at compression ratio 9:1 for reducing propagation loss and for improving convolution efficiency between two input IDTs of center frequency 193.78 ㎒. The SAW convolver utilizing acoustic nonlinearities of piezoelectric material demonstrated that it can provide large S/N ratio and can be use for programmable matched filter(PMF) in spread spectrum communication system.

  • It is necessary to find characteristic phenomena related with permittivity differences for classification of liquid characteristics. If these phenomena can be remotely detected and characteristics can be extracted, it will be very useful in finding flammable liquid materials and classifying substances of these liquids. Therefore, in this paper, reflection and transmitted signals were analyzed from three receiving antennas with one transmitting antenna using wideband electromagnetic wave signals. Frequency response characteristics of reflected or transmitted signals are different according to characteristics of liquid materials. However, conventional FFT methods cannot be applied due to problems of low resolution caused by data windowing distortion. To minimize these problems, eigenvector analysis method was applied for high resolution spectrum estimation of received signals. From these results, it can be shown that classification of many kinds of liquids are possible using peak frequencies and corresponding peak power values of spectrum estimates obtained from various liquid materials.
