In this paper, we studied an antenna that forms a wide beam width by applying a horn-shaped reflector to a patch array antenna. To implement a wide beam width, three patches were arranged in each of the four directions on a square microstrip substrate, and a horn-shaped reflector was applied to the rear of the array antenna. Through this structure, the vertical beam pattern formed from the patch was converted to a diagonal direction, and as a result, the beam widths formed in each of the four sectors were added to create a wide beam width close to a hemisphere. The proposed antenna was studied for application to UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle), and the simulation test results confirmed that the 4.5 dBi beam width was 146.8°.

In this paper, we propose new cell structures using multi-hop Relay Station(RS) based on IEEE802.16j in Narrow-Beam Trisector Cell (NBTC) and Wide-Beam Trisector Cell (WBTC), which are two methods for cell sectorization using 3-sector directional antennas. Then, we analyze our proposed structures compared with the existing system which does not use any RS about the numbers of optimized Base Station (BS) and multi-hop relay, the extended BS coverage, and the deployment cost according to the traffic density using optimization model. According to the results, we know the reduction of total deployment cost of the proposed systems and that WBTC is suitable when the traffic density is high and NBTC is suitable when the traffic density is low in our proposed multi-hop based NBTC and WBTC structures.

In this paper, a symmetric microwave lens to steer wide angle and to operate at broad band frequency range for a linear phased array transmitter was designed. To get accurate beam steering performance far a linear phased array transmitter, uniform amplitude transmission characteristics of microwave lens was focused. The measured result for the insertion loss deviation between Input and output ports of microstrip lens with 8 beam ports and 8 array ports was $\pm$3.1 ㏈ over 6~18 ㎓ band, which was very uniform characteristics. Using 8 elements linear array antenna, it was confirmed the radiation beam could be steered over $\pm$60$^{\circ}$ in azimuth. And the measured lens performance data and multi-beam steering pattern were presented.

In this papar, we have proposed a small electronically steerable parasitic array radiator with 180 degree azimuth beam coverage and high gain characteristics. The proposed antenna is composed of a uniplanar Yagi dipole as a feeding element and two dipoles as parasitic elements. The fabricated antenna is tested by electronically changing the reactance loaded on the parasitic dipoles and the results show that it has 5.2dB~6.7dB gain in $-90^{\circ}{\sim}90^{\circ}$wide azimuth range and -10dB return loss characteristics within 5.725GHz~5.825GHz UNII band.

In this paper, a millimeter-wave multi-beam antenna is studied by rotating the antipodal linear tapered slot antenna(ALTSA) with respect to a center is successfully designed. In order to lowering the SLL and enhancing the isolation between the ALTSA elements, a row of metallic via is inserted between the ALTSAs. A 9 beams antenna is designed and experimented at Ka band. The measured and simulated results agree well with each other. The antenna can provide horizontal wide angle coverage up to ${\pm}62^{\circ}$. The gain of each beam can achieve about 12.5 dB. The mutual coupling between ports is all below 20 dB.

An H-sector horn antenna has a constant beam coverage characteristic and it can be useful for application to a wide band phased array antenna system. In this paper, we designed a broadband E-plane H-sector horn phased-array antenna, which has a 3:1 bandwidth and ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ beam steering capability. An H-sector hem antenna was designed to have $30{\sim}50^{\circ}$ half-power beam width in the principal H-plane. The active reflection coefficient including mutual coupling was calculated using a waveguide simulator, and the active reflection characteristic was improved by mutual coupling over wide frequency range. Using these results, an $8{\times}1$ H-sector phased array antenna was fabricated. The measurement results for the half-power beam width in the principal H-plane and the active reflection coefficient showed a good agreement with the simulation results. The peak-value pattern in the steered radiation beams also agreed well with the active element pattern. The measured active reflection coefficients within the beam steering range are mostly less than 0.3 over the 3:1 frequency range.

Diffuse wireless optical communication offers more robust optical links in terms of coverage and shadowing than line-of-sight links. However, traditional diffuse wireless infrared (IR) transceiver systems are more susceptible to multi-path distortion and great power decrease, which results in limiting high-speed performance. Multi-beam is an effective technique to compensate for multi-path distortion in a wireless infrared environment. The goal of this paper is to analyze the transmission characteristics by replacing traditional diffuse system (TDS) which contains single wide angle transmitter and single element receiver by system consisting of three-beam transmitter and non-imaging receiver (TNS) attached with compound parabolic concentrator (CPC). In the simulation, we use the recursive model developed by Barry and Kahn and build the scenario based on 10 different cases which have been listed in Table 1. Moreover, we also check the reliability of the TNS diffuse link channel by BER test on the basis of different receiver positions and room sizes. The simulation results not only show the basic transmission characteristics of TNS diffuse link, but also are references to design more efficient and reliable indoor infrared transmission systems.
SCUBA-2 North Ecliptic Pole survey, one of the ongoing JCMT large programs, is designed to obtain 850 ㎛ imaging data over ~4 deg2 around the NEP based on the AKARI NEP-Wide survey. By August 2019, the program is 50 % complete in terms of observing time, increasing the submillimeter coverage by a factor of 2 with the comparable depth. The rms measured in the deepest center is 0.92 mJy/beam, slightly above the 850 ㎛ confusion limit. With 4 σ detection, the source count is 50 % complete at 9 mJy. The surface density of submillimeter galaxies at this flux limit is 200 deg-2. Multi-wavelength identification of the 850 ㎛ sources was done through the likelihood analysis based on the far-infrared (250-500 ㎛), mid-infrared (18 ㎛), near-infrared (2-4 ㎛), and optical (i-band) source catalog. We are going to present morphologies and physical properties of 850 ㎛ selected submillimeter galaxies with the help of ancillary multi-wavelength datasets over the NEP area.

As a preliminary study for detection techniques of $CO_2$ gas bubble plumes, we have conducted a comparative experiment on artificially generated $CO_2$ gas bubbles plume by using multibeam echosounder (MBES), single beam echosounder (SBES), and sub-bottom profiler (SBP). The rising speed of artificial gas bubbles is higher than references because of compulsory release of compressed gas in the tank. Compared to single beam acoustic equipments, the MBES detects wide swath coverage. It provides exact determination of the source position and 3D information on the gas bubble plumes in the water column. Therefore, it is shown that MBES can distinctly detect gas bubble plumes compared to single beam acoustic equipments. We can establish more effective complementary detection technique by simultaneous operation of MBES and SBES. Consequently, it contributes to improve qualitative and quantitative detection techniques by understanding the acoustic characteristics of the specific gas bubbles.

In the satellite communications, the frequency sharing with other services is important because the service coverage is generally very wide and overlaps with those of other wireless services. This paper introduces a new technique to mitigate interference into the terrestrial stations from the Earth station in the same frequency band by means of band segmentations which are portions of the overall operation frequency band divided by frequency reuse factor. We consider a multi-beam satellite system, where frequency bands are reused in each satellite cell. The terrestrial stations use band segmentations of adjacent satellite cells, and this may decrease the interferences. By this way, the terrestrial and satellite systems can share the same frequency bands efficiently. The simulation is performed at frequency reuse factors, seven and three. The simulation results show that the proposed method can highly reduce the interference level to -168 dBW or -163 dBW depending on the considered frequency reuse factor from -117 dBW at the 90% link availability.
