M-Zn (M = Sb, V, and Nb) Substituted Strontium Hexaferrites with Enhanced Saturation Magnetization for Permanent Magnet Applications

  • M-Zn (M = Sb, V, Nb) substituted M-type strontium hexaferrites were prepared by a ceramic method. The phase composition, morphology and magnetic properties were studied by x-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy and vibrating sample magnetometry. Saturation magnetization increases with a substitution up to 75.0 emu/g (2.5 % higher compared to unsubstituted hexaferrite) and then decreases with a further substitution. A coercive field of substituted hexaferrite powders with highest saturation magnetization is more than 3 kOe. Substituted strontium hexaferrite powders prepared in this work are a rare example of high $M_S$ compositions without doping rare-earth elements and would be a promising candidate for a permanent magnet application.

  • The etching characteristics of indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films in an $O_2/BCl_3/Ar$ plasma were investigated. The etch rate of ITO thin films increased with increasing $O_2$ content from 0 to 2 sccm in $BCl_3$/Ar plasma, whereas that of ITO decreased with increasing $O_2$ content from 2 sccm to 6 sccm in $BCl_3$/Ar plasma. The maximum etch rate of 65.9 nm/m in for the ITO thin films was obtained at 2 sccm $O_2$ addition. The etch conditions were the RF power of 500 W, the bias power of 200 W, the process pressure of 15 mTorr, and the substrate temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. The analysis of x-ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS) was carried out to investigate the chemical reactions between the surfaces of ITO thin films and etch species.

Investigation of Post Annealing Effect on the PZT Thin Films

  • The PZT thin films were deposited on Si(100) substrate using RF magnetron sputtering method. And the PZT thin films were post annealed at various temperatures to form perovskite phase. To analyze PZT thin films, surface profiler, XRD, XPS, CA, and SFE were used. The thickness increased from 536.5 to 833.2 nm as post annealing temperature increased. The perovskite PZT was observed from PZT-823 and pyrochlore PZT, $ZrO_2$, $TiO_2$, and perovskite $PbZrO_3$ were observed. From the XPS, the atomic percentages of Pb, Zr, Ti, and O were calculated and the portion of Pb increased to PZT-823 and decreased to PZT-923 and then increased to PZT-1023. Also, the CA and SFE was effected on post annealing temperature and as a function of atomic percentage of Pb, the CA and SFE was transformed.

Fabrication of CuSn Nanofibers Prepared via Electrospinning

  • The Cu and CuSn/PVP nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning method by controlling various parameters. The precursor solution was prepared with copper(II) acetate monohydrate ($Cu(CH_3COO)_2$) and tin chloride dihydrate ($SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$), and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) for adjusting viscosity. The fabricated nanofibers were calcined at 873 K in Ar atmospheric environment for 5 hours to remove the solvent and polymer. The morphology and diameter of nanofibers were measured by optical microscopy (OM) with Motic image plus 2.0 program. The components and chemical environment were investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). From the XPS survey spectra, we confirmed that CuSn/PVP nanofibers were successfully fabricated. The XPS peaks of C 1s and N 1s were remarkably decreased after calcination of the nanofibers at 873 K. It implies that the PVP was completely decomposed after calcination at 873 K.

Estimation of Sea Surface Current Vector based on Satellite Ocean Color Image around the Korean Marginal Sea

  • One of the most difficult parameters to measure in the sea is current speed and direction. Recently, efforts are being made to estimate the ocean current vectors by utilizing sequential satellite imageries. In this study, we attempted to estimated sea surface current vector (sscv) by using satellite ocean color imageries of SeaWifs around the Korean Peninsula. This ocean color image data has 1-day sampling interval and spatial resolution of 1x1 km. Maximum cross-correlation method is employed which is aimed to detect similar patterns between sequential images. The estimated current vectors are compared to the surface geostrophic current vectors obtained from altimeter of sea level height data. In utilizing the color imagery data, some limitations and drawbacks exist so that in warm water region where phytoplankton concentration is relatively lower than in cold water region, estimation of sscv is poor and unreliable. On the other hand, two current vector fields agree reasonably well in the Korean South Sea region where high concentration of chlorophyll-a and weak tide is observed. In the future, with ocean color images of shorter sampling interval by COMS satellite, the algorithm and methodology developed in the study would be useful in providing the information for the ocean current around Korean Peninsula.

한국우주전파관측망을 위한 전파세기 시험용 측정기 설계

  • 한국우주전파관측망(Korean VLBI Network, KVN)을 이루는 21m 망원경의 수신기에는 전파세기를 모니터링하기 위한 장치가 있으나, 회로잡음, 이득, 그리고 DC offset 등의 개선을 위하여 전파세기 시험용 측정기를 설계하였다. 이 장치는 입력신호의 전압에 대하여 주파수로 출력되는데, 선형성과 신호잡음특성이 중요하다. 이러한 회로 특성 파악과 개선을 위하여, 차동입력 증폭, 단일입력 증폭, 그리고 1:1앰프출력 등으로 입력신호에 대하여 다양한 실험을 할 수 있게 하였고, 샘플링 주파수도 1 MHz와 4 MHz를 선택할 수 있게 전파세기 시험용 측정기를 설계하였다. 시제품을 제작하여 DC 입력 시험, 0 전압입력 시험, 노이즈 제너레이터를 이용한 동작 시험, 그리고 KVN연세전파천문대의 수신기에 직접 연결한 실험을 통하여, 최종 이득안정도의 잡음스펙트럼 ~1.5 X $10^{-4}\;dG/G(Hz^{-1/2})$@1Hz를 얻었다. 이번 실험 결과를 바탕으로 KVN의 전파세기측정기를 새로 제작할 예정이다. 이에 전파세기 시험용 측정기의 설계 결과를 소개하고자 한다.

Two Machine Learning Models for Mobile Phone Battery Discharge Rate Prediction Based on Usage Patterns

  • This research presents the battery discharge rate models for the energy consumption of mobile phone batteries based on machine learning by taking into account three usage patterns of the phone: the standby state, video playing, and web browsing. We present the experimental design methodology for collecting data, preprocessing, model construction, and parameter selections. The data is collected based on the HTC One X hardware platform. We considered various setting factors, such as Bluetooth, brightness, 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Sync. The battery levels for each possible state vector were measured, and then we constructed the battery prediction model using different regression functions based on the collected data. The accuracy of the constructed models using the multi-layer perceptron (MLP) and the support vector machine (SVM) were compared using varying kernel functions. Various parameters for MLP and SVM were considered. The measurement of prediction efficiency was done by the mean absolute error (MAE) and the root mean squared error (RMSE). The experiments showed that the MLP with linear regression performs well overall, while the SVM with the polynomial kernel function based on the linear regression gives a low MAE and RMSE. As a result, we were able to demonstrate how to apply the derived model to predict the remaining battery charge.

$Cl_{2}/BCl_{3}$/Ar 플라즈마에 의해 식각된 ZnO 박막 표면의 연구 (Study of the Etched ZnO Thin Film Surface in the $BCl_{3}/Ar/Cl_{2}$ Plasma)

  • 본 연구에서 유도결합 플라즈마 식각 장치외 $BCl_3/Ar/Cl_2$ 가스 혼합비를 이용하여 ZnO 박막을 식각 하였을 때, 식각 된 ZnO 박막의 표면 반응에 관하여 관찰하였다. ZnO 박막의 식각 실험 조건은 RF 전력 700 W, 직류바이어스 전압 - 150 V, 공정 압력 15 mTorr로 고정하였고, $Cl_2/(Cl_2+BCl_3+Ar)$ 가스 혼합비를 변경하면서 식각 실험을 수행하였다. $Cl_2$ 가스가 3 sccm 일 때, ZnO 박막의 식각속도는 53 nm/min으로 가장 높았으며, 이때 ZnO 박막에 대한 $SiO_2$의 선택비는 0.89 이었다. 식각된 ZnO 박막의 표면은 XRD (X-ray diffraction)와 AFM(atomic force microscopy)를 이용하여 결정상의 변화와 표면의 거칠기를 분석하였다. AFM 분석 결과에서 Ar, $BCl_3$$Cl_2$ 플라즈마를 이용하여 식각된 시료의 표면 거칠기 근 값이 식각전의 시료나 $BCl_3/Ar/Cl_2$ 플라즈마로 식각된 시료보다 큰 것을 확인하였다. 이는 식각된 시료에서의 Zn 양의 감소나 비휘발성 식각 잔류물에 의한 영향으로 판단된다. SIMS(secondary ion mass spectrometery) 분석을 통해 검증 하였다.

Effect of Exercise and Calcium Supplementation on Bone Mineral Density and Bone Mineral Content in Growing Female Rats

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of dietary calcium supplementation and exercise on bone mineral density and bone mineral content of growing female rats. The exercise and control group were fed a diet containing 0.5% calcium and Ca supplementation group were fed a diet containing 1.0% calcium diet. The exercise group ran on a rodent treadmill (speed of 15m/min for 30 min) three days per week during the 3-week study period. Bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) of spine and femur were determined by using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (FIXI-mus, GE Lunar Radiation Cooperation, Madison, WI, USA). The exercise group had significantly greater (6.25%) spine BMD compared to the nonexercise group and the exercise group had but not significantly greater spine BMC (7.1%) compared to nonexercisers. Femur BMD and BMC divided by the rats final body weight appears to have a higher BMD (7.5%) and BMC (4.5%) in the exercise group, which indicates that exercise had a positive influence on femur bone mineral density and bone mineral content. The supplementation of calcium did not significantly affect spine and femoral BMC and BMD for the 3 weeks experimental period. It can be concluded that when calcium intake meets the recommended, exercise is beneficial for acquisition of spine bone mineral density in young growing female rats. 비음측정기를 사용한 정상 성인의 비음도에 관한 연구 (Study of Nasalance for Normal Korean Adults using Nasometer II)

  • Assessment of speech nasality provides important information for the treatment of velopharyngeal incompetence. Objective procedures may be used to assess velopharyngea1 function, in examples Nasometer, Aerodynamics, x-ray, Electromyography, Nasoendoscopy and Videofluoroscopy etc. The aim of this study was to obtain comprehensive nasalance data for Korean adults, aged 20 years and to investigate any gender differences within that age group using Nasometer II. The results were as follow: (1) The nasalance of the vowels(/a/, /i/, /e/, /o/, /u/, /ja/, /je/, /wi/) in the group of adults was higher in females than in males (p<0.05). (2) The nasalance of the plosives (/p/, /$p^h$/, /p'/, /t/, /$t^h$/, /t'/, /k/, /$k^h$/, /k'/) in the group of adults was higher in females than in males (p<0.05). (3) The nasalance of the affricatives (/c/, /$c^h$/, /c'/) in the group of adults was higher in females than in males (p<0.05). (4) The nasalance of the fricatives (/s/, /s'/, /$\int$/) in the group of adults was higher in female than in males (p<0.05). (5) There was no statistically significant effect for the nasalance of nasal consonants (/m/, /n/, /$a{\eta}$/).
