A Study on Wireless Information Services Based on WiBro Service (휴대인터넷(WiBro)기반의 정보서비스 활용방안에 관한 연구)

  • The requirements to use high speed internet under wireless environment are increased. To satisfy the requirements. the WiBro service combining high speed of wired internet service with mobility of wireless internet service will be launched as an alternative. This paper reviews and analyzes its overview, features, and comparison with existing mobile internet and wireless LAN in the information providing aspect. This paper also proposes how to adapt mobile information service and how to satisfy the requirements to construct mobile library based on the WiBro service. With the current problems in mobile-based information services provided by libraries. especially this paper proposes information service areas. considerations to provide information services, and service provisioning method based on the WiBro service.

  • 거리에 제약을 받는 무선 LAN에 대비하여 최근에는 WiBro 통신망이 제시되고 있고, 앞으로는 이들 통신망이 공존할 것으로 예상된다. 이를 위해, 본 논문에서는 무선 LAN과 WiBro 통신망과의 연동 구조 핀 핸드오프 절차를 제시하였다. 또한, OPNET Modeler 9.0을 사용하여 제시된 핸드오프 절차를 구현하였으며, 핸드오프 시 TCP와 UDP에 대해 기능 테스트를 수행하였다. 테스트 결과 핸드오프가 일어나더라도 원활한 통신이 가능함을 보여주었다.

  • Request about fast diffusion of internet and high-capacity multimedia service is increasing day after day. Because existent wireless LAN is short range, if subscriber is far away in base station transceiver system(Base Station), subscriber's quality of service becomes low, and wileless internet is expensive. Lately, WiBro(Wireless Broadband Internet) system that is developed in domestic by world first, is high-speed portable internet service that is situated in middle area of mobile phone and wireless LAN. In this paper, service traffic model and characteristics are analyzed to provide multimedia service based on IEEE 802.16 BWA accomplishes base of WiBro and simulation is conducted according to various traffic mixing ratio. Finally, on the basis of these simulation results, maximum allowable number of subscriber per cell is calculated.

  • 3G telecommunication and wireless LAN provide various wireless communication services with their own native advantages and disadvantages. Currently WiBro service was developed to make up for the disadvantages of those services, and 3G-WLAN-WiBro underworking system which enables a user who uses triple-mode terminals to use those three networks was proposed. Even though each network adopts mutual authentication process between users and networks to provide security and accounting, they use different authentication protocols. In this paper, integrated authentication and key management protocol is proposed which makes use of previously used authentication information and supports safe roaming when a user moves from one network to another one under a same service provider on the 3G-WLAN-WiBro interworking network.

  • The technology of WiBro, combining advantages of high speed internet and wireless internet provides the effectiveness and convenience provided by broadband and convergence. WiBro has developed due to supports of the related industries. The advancement of WiBro have created driving force for network advancement. WiBro is a niche market among high speed Internet, wireless LAN, Mobile phone, wireless internet. Through building relationship between market share and the existed telecommunication service, WiBro could improve the convenience of users. The security controls have to be built considering vulnerabilities of WiBro. Based on the study, the architecture of WiBro was suggested through reviewing the vulnerabilities and security controls in the wireless network and wire network. The appropriate security measures to be applied in the environment of WiBro. The outcomes of the study could improve the usage of WiBro.

  • Recently, there have been intensive researches on the wireless Internet access through WiFi WLAN using WiRro network as backhaul link in the Internet service providing business area. However, in the wireless Internet access method, we need to solve the compatibility problem for different user authentications between licensed WiBro network and unlicensed WiFi network for billing and user management. In this paper, we propose an authentication method for WiFi users by BWAN operators through WiNNERs which is RS connecting the two networks, and discuss the effectiveness of the method.

Study on Coexistence between WiBro and WLAN in DTV Bands (DTV 대역에서 WiBro와 무선랜의 상호공존성에 관한 연구)

  • Mutual Interference scenarios between Wireless Broadband (WiBro) and Wireless LAN (WLAN) in DTV bands are assumed. Co-channel interference and adjacent channel interference are respectively evaluated in terms of carrier to interference ratio (C/I) by using Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT) based on the Monte-Carlo simulation method. For the simulation, three frequencies such as 185 MHz, 481 MHz and 687 MHz are chosen. Analysis results indicate that interference situation of using frequency of 185 MHz is the worst case, which requires longer protection distance between WiBro MS and WLAN User Equipment (UE), lower transmit power of WiBro Mobile Station (MS) and WiBro Base Station (BS) and WLAN UE and larger guard band. Comparing to cases of using frequency of 185 MHz and 481 MHz, interference situation of using frequency of 687 MHz is slighter. Therefore, using frequency of 687 MHz is easier for coexistence between WiBro and WLAN. Analysis results can be used as reference and guideline when planning the deployment of WiBro and WLAN in DTV bands.

Analysis on WiBro Interfering to WLAN under Co-channel in TV White Spaces

  • Co channel interference and adjacent channel interference of (WiBro) into Wireless LAN (WLAN) in TV White Spaces (TVWS) is evaluated through Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT) based on the Monte-Carlo simulation method. As a result, in the case of co channel interference, the minimum distance between WiBro Mobile Station (MS) and WLAN User Equipment (UE) should be 210 m to allow the maximum transmitter power of WiBro UE of 25 dBm. The transmit power of WiBro BS have to be reduced to -4.96 dBm.

  • We researched economic efficiency and possibility of game portal service based PDA/Smart phone by popularize of next generation portable internet WiBro. PDA/Smart phone are difficult to equal level content service with PC, because of it has low CPU and memory than PC. This paper are implemented paper of integrated server of Cable or Wireless for WiBro contents. In this research, we implemented and show test result of CP killer contents in PDA. It can apply to WiBro portable internet and has required many functions in integrated server for cable or wireless. CP Killer contents for WiBro portable internet is developed by PC server base on Window XP. It can accept next generation wireless LAN, portable internet and ubiquitous issues. We expect activation of commercial use that WiBro contents and server trading.

Low-Latency Handover Scheme Using Exponential Smoothing Method in WiBro Networks (와이브로 망에서 지수평활법을 이용한 핸드오버 지연 단축 기법)

  • Development of high-speed Internet services and the increased supply of mobile devices have become the key factor for the acceleration of ubiquitous technology. WiBro system, formed with lP backbone network, is a MBWA technology which provides high-speed multimedia service in a possibly broader coverage than Wireless LAN can offer. Wireless telecommunication environment needs not only mobility support in Layer 2 but also mobility management protocol in Layer 3 and has to minimize handover latency to provide seamless mobile services. In this paper, we propose a fast cross-layer handover scheme based on signal strength prediction in WiBro environment. The signal strength is measured at regular intervals and future value of the strength is predicted by Exponential Smoothing Method. With the help of the prediction, layer-3 handover activities are able to occur prior to layer-2 handover, and therefore, total handover latency is reduced. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme predicts that future signal level accurately and reduces the total handover latency.
