  • An RF energy detector for spectrum sensing in TV white space transceiver is presented. It is based on an RF active filtering technique that comprises a low-noise amplifier with a frequency-translation high-pass filtering feedfoward loop, which attenuates the unwanted sideband energy and only passes the wanted band energy. Unlike the conventional architecture, a new architecture that can attenuate both sidebands at the same time is proposed. A simplified system modeling method is presented to assess the non-ideality effects on the RF energy detector performances. System behavioral simulations demonstrate that the proposed architecture can be instrumental for realizaing a RF energy detector circuit in CMOS.

  • This paper studies theoretically the bit error rate (BER) performance of cooperative transmission using space-time block code (STBC) in a fully distributed manner. Specifically, we first propose a STBC-based cooperative signaling structure to make the cooperation of three single-antenna terminals possible. Then, we derive the closed-form BER expressions for both cooperation and noncooperation schemes under flat Rayleigh fading channel plus additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). The validity of these expressions is verified by Monte-Carlo simulations. A variety of numerical and simulation results reveal that the cooperative transmission achieves higher diversity gain and better performance than the direct transmission for the same total transmit power.

  • On the research field for speech signal, neural network mainly uses for the category classification in speech recognition and applies to signal processing. Accordingly, this paper proposes a noise reduction system using a time-delay neural network, which implements the mapping from the space of speech signal degraded by noise to the space of clean speech signal. It is confirmed that this method is effective for speech degraded not only by white noise but also by colored noise using the noise reduction system, which restores the amplitude component of fast Fourier transform.

  • Recently, with the development of hardware and software technology related with image information delivery, the demand for various multimedia service has increased. But, the process of treating, sending, and storing image signals generates image degradation by various external causes. The main cause of image degradation is noise. image is mostly damaged by AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise). Therefore, there have been active researches on noise elimination. This paper, to reduce the effects of AWGN added to the image, suggests a noise-eliminating algorithm which is excellent in low-frequency and high-frequency characteristics in space. And, this paper, through simulation techniques, compared the result of the suggested algorithm with those of the existing methods. And, to evaluate the performance of it, PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) was used.

  • This paper derives the symbol error rate (SER) for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) with L-fold selection combining (SC) space diversity in Rayleigh fading channel. No analysis has been reported yet for theoretical SER performance of QAM with SC space diversity in Rayleigh fading channels. The formula is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an additive white Gaussian noise channel over the distribution of the maximum signal-to-noise ratio among all of the diversity channels. By giving the order of diversity, L, and the number of signal points, M, we have been able to obtain the SER performance of QAM with general SC space diversity. Analytical results show that the probability of error decreases with the order of diversity. We can also see that the incremental diversity gain per additional diversity decreases as the number of branches becomes larger.

  • This paper has proposed a low-noise and high-linear RF receiver supporting TV white space from 470 MHz to 698 MHz), which is implemented in $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. It consists of a low-noise amplifier, a RF band-pass filter, a RF amplifier, a passive down-conversion mixer, and a channel-selection low-pass filter. A low-noise amplifier and RF amplifier provide a high voltage gain to improve the sensitivity level. To suppress strong and nearby interferers, two RF filtering schemes have been performed by using a RF BPF and a down-conversion mixer. The proposed LPF has been based on the common-gate topology and adopted a bi-quad cell to achieve -24dB/oct characteristics. In addition, the RF receiver can support the overall TV band by controlling a LO frequency. The simulated results show a voltage gain of 56 dB, a noise figure of less than 2 dB, and an out-of-channel IIP3 of -2.3 dBm. It consumes 37 mA from a 1.5 V supply voltage.

  • This paper introduces a new P wave arrival time determination algorithm of acoustic emission (AE) suitable to identify P waves with low signal-to-noise ratio generated in rock masses around the high-level radioactive waste disposal repositories. The algorithms adopted for this paper were amplitude threshold picker, Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), two step AIC, and Hinkley criterion. The elastic waves were generated by Pencil Lead Break test on a granite sample, then mixed with white noise to make it difficult to distinguish P wave artificially. The results obtained from amplitude threshold picker, AIC, and Hinkley criterion produced relatively large error due to the low signal-to-noise ratio. On the other hand, two step AIC algorithm provided the correct results regardless of white noise so that the accuracy of source localization was more improved and could be satisfied with the error range.

  • This paper presents a set of candidate regulatory requirements for TV band devices (TVBDs) in the Rep. of Korea. To guarantee the protection of incumbent services, especially digital TV (DTV) and wireless microphones, in TV frequency bands, we suggest minimum separation distances of TVBDs from the noise-limited contour according to incumbent users and TVBD types. This paper also deals with multiple sets of separation distances of a co-channel TVBD network from a DTV protected contour on the basis of the radio propagation characteristics of different geographic areas to make good use of TV white space (TVWS) and safely protect the DTV service. We present a low-power transmission mode of TVBDs and the relevant separation distances for small-cell deployment. The service coverage reduction ratio of a TVBD network is investigated in the presence of DTV interference in four geographic areas. The TVWS field verification results, conducted on the island of Jeju (Rep. of Korea), show that incumbent services operate well without harmful interference from neighboring TVBDs with the proposed separation distances.

  • Accurate mathematical models of spacecraft components are an essential of spacecraft attitude control system design, analysis and simulation. Gyro is one of the most important spacecraft components used for attitude propagation and control. Gyro errors may seriously degrade the accuracy of the calculated spacecraft angular rate and of attitude estimates due to inherent drift and bias errors. In order to validate this model, nominal case simulation has been performed and compared for the low range mode and high range mode, respectively. In this paper, a mathematical model of gyro containing the relationships for predicting spacecraft angular rate and disturbances is proposed.

  • More and more people are paying attention to the psychological pleasure and relaxation that sound hearing brings. In most cases, humans seem to have a special preference for natural sounds. Natural sounds are mainly white noise and pink noise such as wind, rain, waves, waterfall sounds, etc. All of these are often considered to be beneficial to human health, but in reality the same category of natural sounds is no different. It will be very different due to space, time and other factors. Each sound can be unique, so people's hearing experience is also different. This paper quantitatively analyzes the spectrum and brain waves to analyze the feeling of hearing the natural Broken Falls sound. In particular, we aim to objectively analyze the objective feeling of Broken Falls sound falling on the human auditory system through sound spectrum and brain waves.
