Anti-lock Braking System for Commercial Vehicles with Pneumatic Brake System by Using Slip Ratio (슬립률을 이용한 상용차용 공압식 브레이크 기반 ABS 알고리즘 개발)

  • This paper presents an anti-lock braking system for commercial vehicles with pneumatic brake system by using slip ratio. By virtue of system reliability, most commercial vehicles adopt pneumatic brake system. However, pneumatic brake systems control is more difficult than hydraulic systems due to a longer time delay and the system nonlinearity. One of the major factors in generating braking forces is the wheel slip ratio. Accordingly, the proposed ABS strategy employs the slip ratio threshold-based valve on/off control. This threshold-based algorithm is simple but effective to control the pneumatic brake systems. The control performance of the proposed algorithm has been validated via simulation studies using MATLAB/Simulink and Trucksim. The results show ABS by using slip ratio reduces the braking distance and improves vehicle control.

  • In electric motor coaches, the rolling stocks move by the adhesive effort between rail and driving wheel. Generally, the adhesive effort is defined by the function of both the weight of electric motor coach and the adhesive effort between rails and driving wheel. The characteristics of adhesive effort is strongly affected by the conditions between rails and driving wheel. When the adhesive effort decreases suddenly, the electric motor coach has slip phenomena. This paper proposes a re-adhesion control algorithm which uses the maximum adhesive effort by instantaneous estimation of adhesion force using load torque disturbance observer. Based on this estimated adhesive effort, the re-adhesion control Is peformed to obtain the maximum transfer of the tractive effort.

  • Yaw moment control algorithm for improving stability of a vehicle in cornering is presented in this paper. A change of the yaw moment according to an increment in brake ship at each wheel is examined and reflected in the control algorithm. This control algorithm computes the target yaw velocity as the vehicle motion desired by the driver for directional stability control in cornering and it makes the actual yaw velocity follow the target one. The yaw moment control was achieved by brake slip control and simple brake slip control logic was introduced in this paper.

  • Anti-lock brake system(ABS) are designed to prevent wheel lock on all wheels of the vehicle by sensing wheel angular speed, processing the speed sensor signals in suitable digital electronic control circuits and comanding electrohydraulic actuators to control brake pressure. This study considers a control of ABS using wheel circumferential acceleration thresholds which avoids dangerous wheel locking due to excessive brake pressure during the vehicle braking and discusses the 3-channels, 3-sensors ABS system that employs "independent control" technique for the front wheels and "select low" technique for the rear wheels. The validities of the ABS such as vehicle stability, steerability and stopping distance during braking are assured through the vehicle tests on uniform asphalt straight roads.

  • This paper describes the development of a nonlinear observer for four wheel steer (4WS) vehicle. An observer is designed to estimate the vehicle variables difficult to measure directly. A brake yaw motion controller (BYMC), which uses a PID control method, is also proposed for controlling the brake pressure of the rear and inner wheels to enhance lateral stability. It induces the yaw rate to track the reference yaw rate, and it reduces a slip angle on a slippery road. The braking and steering performances of the anti-lock brake system (ABS) and BYMC are evaluated for various driving conditions, including straight, J-turn, and sinusoidal maneuvers. The simulation results show that developed ABS reduces the stopping distance and increases the longitudinal stability. The observer estimates velocity, slip angle, and yaw rate of 4WS vehicle very well. The results also reveal that the BYMC improves vehicle lateral stability and controllability when various steering inputs are applied.

  • This paper addresses sliding mode control (SMC) of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with a compensator of model uncertainties such as vehicle parameter variation, unmodeled dynamics, and external disturbances. A sliding mode controller (SMC) is designed with a nominal vehicle model to achieve a desired wheel slip ratio. A disturbance observer (DOB) is introduced to compensate the model uncertainties and is designed with a transfer function of a hydraulic brake dynamics. Through simulations on the model uncertainties, it is verified that the sliding mode control with the DOB can give the simulation results better than the sliding mode control without the DOB.

  • This paper addresses sliding mode control of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with a disturbance observer for model uncertainties such as vehicle parameter variation, un-modeled dynamics, and external disturbances. By using a nominal vehicle model, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve a desired wheel slip ratio for ABS control. To compensate the model uncertainties, a disturbance observer is introduced with the help of a transfer function of a hydraulic brake dynamics. A proposed sliding mode controller with a disturbance observer is evaluated through simulations for model uncertainties. The simulation results show that the disturbance observer can enhance performances of sliding mode control for ABS.

  • This paper proposes the design of anti-braking system on aircraft and wheel slip ratio control using adaptive slide mode control. By maintaining the desired wheel slip ratio under runway conditions, we can obtain the maximal frictional force and reduce the braking range. In this paper, we apply an adaptive sliding mode control to aircraft brake system and it can guarantee the robustness under variations in brake characteristics. The performance of proposed controller is verified in simulations.

  • Anti-lock Braking System(ABS) is a device which prevents the wheels form locked up under emergency braking of a vehicle. So it helps the vehicle to maintain the steerability and shortens the braking distance by maintaining optimal frictional force during braking since the tire road slip is controlled in acceptable range. Recently, ABS is accepted as a standard equipment in vehicles, especially in commercial vehicles(bus and trucks).   • The skid-steering method that applied a number of mobile robot currently is extremely effective in narrow area. But it contains several problems such as its natural properties, slip, occurred by different direction between vehicle's driving and wheel's rotary. Through this paper, suitable control algorithm of $6{\times}6$ skid steering wheeled vehicle and its driving methods are proposed by analyzing the behavior $6{\times}6$ skid-steered wheeled vehicle model designed by engineering analysis strategy. To do this, based on a behavior of designed driving system, required torque and other performance of in-wheel type motor system are considered, and finally control algorithm for each wheel is proposed and simulated using this model. To test the proposed vehicle system, driver model is designed using PID closed loop system and included in the total driving control algorithm. The Performance of designed vehicle model is verified by using DYC (Direct Yaw Control) cornering mode and slip mode control to follow the steering input which are essential to evaluate the driving performance of $6{\times}6$ vehicle. Proposed modeling strategy and control method will be implemented to the real $6{\times}6$ in-wheel drive type vehicle.
