  • The study aims that high quality recycled sand by wet manufacturing system can be used in practical way through basic material property. The basic material property test was done by 4 categories, dry manufacturing system (1) tandem and (2) parallel, wet manufacturing system (3) large capacity and (4) small capacity. RS-IV is the final production of (1) to (4) method, it is tested via KS F 2573 (recycled fine aggregate). RS-IV is satisfied with 4 items, those are absolute dry density, 0.08mm sieve throughput, clay lump amount, and organic impurity substance content. However, absorptivity item has problem in (1) and (2) method, (3) and (4) method are confirmed with norms 5% low. Also, the production quality of wet manufacturing system is better than dry manufacturing system in absolute dry density, absorptivity, 0.08mm sieve throughput, and clay lump amount.

  • This study has an innovative improvement of the ocher tiles production system that aims to resolve social issue of industrial waste and to meet the customer needs for environmental-friendly building materials. By changing a wet type cutting method to a dry type of ocher tiles production system, the three processes such as cleaning, dehydration, and drying can be removed in existing overall process of 17 steps. Accordingly, the application of the wet type cutting method, which is proposed in this study, makes an increase in ocher tiles production from 1,500 to 1,850 pieces per hour. In particular, industrial wastewater that was emerging as the biggest problem in environmental pollutants in the wet cutting method has been removed. In addition, the most serious problems of noise and dust from the operator side, while developing a device for the dry cutting method, are eliminated through the development of additional equipment.

  • This study was to execute the experiment for analyzing the quality characteristics of mortar by type of recycled sand by using the recycled sand produced by the manufacturing system by wet gravity separation in order to develop the removal device of impurities for the production of high-quality recycled sand. As a result, this study has sown that the mortar using the high-quality recycled sand through the manufacturing system by wet gravity separation in the fluidity property, strength property, and shrinkage property largely, compared with the mortar using low-quality recycled sand that not passed the device of sand flux. There was a tendency similar to the plane mortar. In conclusion, it was considered as various quality performances of the recycled sand were improved through the production stage of prototype.

  • An experimental study on drilling of stainless steel is conducted using TiAlN coated drills and HSS twist drills with several cutting conditions; feed rate, spindle rotational speed, and dry/wet cutting. The effects of number of hole on the thrust force are examined by cutting force measurement. The flank wear of the drills and the change of hole diameter are quantitatively observed using a vision system. It is found that the thrust force in drilling with TiAlN coated drills decrease under dry and wet machining, whereas the flank wear resistance is improved.

  • In this computational study of optical fiber manufacturing, WOW (wet-on-wet) double coating process on freshly drawn glass fiber has been numerical modelled and simulated using a simplified geometry of typical optical fiber coating apparatus. The numerical domain includes primary and secondary coating dies along with secondary coating cup and the interface between primary and secondary coating liquids are investigated using level set method. Coating liquid viscosity is an important parameter and its dependence on temperature is also considered. Since there would be possibility for pressure and temperature of primary coating liquid to be increased substantially at high fiber drawing speed, the effects of increased pressure and temperature of primary coating liquid are examined on flow patterns of coating liquids in secondary coating cup. In case that both pressure and temperature of primary coating liquid are high enough, liquid interface becomes noticeably unstable and this flow instability could adversely affect the uniform coatings and final quality of produced optical fiber.

  • In this study, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of wet tissue manufacturing process was performed. The wet tissue manufacturing process consists of preparation of wetting agent (chemical liquid), impregnation of nonwoven fabric into wetting agent and primary and secondary packaging. Data and information were collected on the input and output of the actual process from a certain company and the database of the Korea Ministry of Environment and some foreign countries (when Korean unavailable) were employed to connect the upper and the lower process flow. Based on the above and the potential environmental impacts of the wet tissue manufacturing process were calculated. As a result of the characterization, Ozone Layer Depletion (OD) is 3.46.E-06 kg $CFC_{11}$, Acidification (AD) is 5.11.E-01 kg $SO_2$, Abiotic Resource Depletion (ARD) is $3.52.E+00\;1yr^{-1}$, Global Warming (GW) is 1.04.E+02 kg $CO_2$, Eutrophication (EUT) is 2.31.E-02 kg ${PO_4}^{3-}$, Photochemical Oxide Creation (POC) was 2.22.E-02 kg $C_2H_4$, Human Toxicity (HT) was 1.55.E+00 kg 1,4 DCB and Terrestrial Ecotoxicity (ET) was 5.82.E-04 kg 1,4 DCB. In order to reduce the environmental impact of the manufacturing process, it is necessary to improve the overall process as other general cases and change the raw materials including packaging materials with less environmental impact. Conclusively, the energy consumed in the manufacturing process has emerged as a major issue, and this needs to be reconsidered other options such as alternative energy. Therefore, it is recommended that a process system should be redesigned to improve energy efficiency and to change to an energy source with lower environmental impact. Due to the nature of LCA, the final results of this study can be varied to some extent depending on the type of LCI DB employed and may not represent of all wet tissue manufacturing processes in the current industry.

  • We propose a design and analysis of an optical system using a prism with a high enough refractive index for wet fingerprint identification. Important parameters including the tilting angle($\beta$) of the $1^{st}$ image plane, an anamorphic distortion, and a tilt of image plane are considered in terms of the apex angle of the prism($\alpha$) and refractive index of the prism material. Our suggestion on refractive index and apex angle of the prism corroborates well with experimental results.

  • Wet scrubber is widely used to remove toxic gaseous contaminants in various industries such as semi-conductor industry, display manufacturing industry and so on. In this study, to optimize a packed bed scrubber as one of typical wet scrubber size while keeping its performance, four different packing materials were investigated at different air flow rates, liquid-gas ratios and pH values. Ammonia, hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid were used as test gases to characterize the scrubber performance. Gas removal efficiency increased as the packing size decreased, which resulted in the increase of specific surface area. The increase of air flow rate led to the decrease of gas removal efficiency, while the increase of liquid-gas ratio led to the increase of gas removal efficiency. For the case of $NH_3$ gas, lower pH, and for the cases of HCl and HF, higher pH contributed to higher gas removal efficiency. Gas removal efficiency of a wet scrubber increased in the order of HCl < $NH_3$ < HF according to its water solubility.

  • For the purpose of manufacturing water-resistant corrugated board boxes for agricultural products in the cold chain system, the effects of fiber types, wet strength agents and a moisture-proof chemical on the properties of the base papers were investigated first. PAE(polyamide amine epichlorohydrin) showed better performance than MF(melamine formalde-hyde) over broad stock pH ranges, which was prefered as wet strength agent for the paper grade. When short fibers(AOCC, KOCC) were mixed with long fiber(UKP) in certain ratios, some physical properties of the paper made with mixed fibers were similar to those of the paper made with UKP only. Paper containing AOCC showed the biggest increase in water resistance when PAE was added to the stock. Synergistic effects in moisture-proof and some mechanical properties of paper were appeared when PAR was added internally, together with the coating of a moisture proof chemical on the sheets.
