본 연구는 강증산의 개벽사상을 문명론적 관점으로 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 한말 개화기 동아시아 문명권의 위축과 물질문명을 앞세운 서구 열강의 동점은 문명적 충격 속에서 새로운 문명전환을 촉발하는 동인으로 작용했다. 척사파와 개화파와 다르게 근대한국 개벽종교 역시 서구 근대에 대한 구체적인 대응과 새로운 문명론을 제시하는 등 개벽파의 일정한 흐름으로 이어졌다. 특히 강증산은 차별과 억압에 저항하여 조화문명과 상생문명을 제시했으며, 이성 중심의 서구적 근대를 비판하면서 신인공공(神人公共) 문명을 제시했다. 증산은 서구 근대문명이 확산하는 과정에서 당시의 상하 귀천, 남녀차별, 정치부패, 지배층의 착취와 외세의 침략 등 사회 내외의 사회모순 속에서 신음하던 민중들에게 새 문명의 건설을 선언했다. 증산은 물질 중심주의와 인간소외 등을 비판하고 그러한 병폐들로부터 민중들을 구제하는 제생의세 실천으로 이어졌고 개벽을 주장했다. 이것은 묵은 하늘에 대한 청산을 통한 새 하늘 선언이며, 조화와 통합, 살림을 지향하는 새 문명을 건설하려는 노력의 표출이었다. 증산이 지향한 새로운 문명은 상생의 도에 의해 운행되는 사회이고, 인간이 신과 같은 존귀한 존재로 대접받는 인존의 시대로 집약된다. 증산이 구상한 새로운 문명은 동서양의 사상과 문명을 통합하는 조화문명((調和文明)이며, 신인공공(神人公共)의 문명이었다. 또한, 증산의 삶은 민중들의 삶을 구제해 주기 위한 제생의세(濟生醫世)의 삶이었다. 이후 무극도·태극도의 상생 운동 역시 증산이 지향한 문명 건설을 위한 노력이었다.

The Korean and the American consumers's attitude toward globalization were compared in the context of cultural values. This study exclusively investigated the effect of traditional versus non-traditional values and the mediating role of fashion involvement. The study sample consists of American and Korean female college students. It was affirmed that long supported categorization of individualism for Western culture and collectivism for Asian or Eastern culture does not seem to characterize the postmodern generation. No major differences between Korea and the U. S. were found in the empirical study except that Americans showed higher levels of cultural values and Koreans associate fashion involvement with global-mindedness more strongly. The impact of cultural values was similar across cultures but the mediating role of fashion involvement was dissimilar depending on the cultural backgrounds of respondents.

Preparing food is a universal activity of families and households around the world. The kitchen is the site of these activities and is often considered the center of the home. This symposium examines housing and kitchens in Eastern and Western countries through an exploration of cultural history and lifestyles throughout the centuries. Korea and the United States were selected as the original countries for comparison and study. China and Japan were included to provide a more comprehensive Oriental perspective, while England and Italy were included to expand on the European heritage prevalent in the history of the United States.

This paper proposes a paradigm for research on broadcast political interviews. Developed using a series of studies, the paradigm introduces core aspects and questions that should be addressed when examining political interviews in a particular society. This paradigm will enable researchers to collect detailed accounts of the interaction between interviewers and interviewees, the structure and tone of the questions posed to interviewees and the interviewees' communicative style when addressing such questions, and the strategies employed by the participants to pursue their goals. It is hoped that the paradigm will encourage the interest and facilitate the study of televised political interviews particularly from the nationally, culturally, and socially diversified Asian countries. Gathering detailed data from non-Western societies in Asia will also facilitate our understanding of the function and effect of political communication from a cross-cultural perspective.

This paper explores the influences of the traditional Chinese culture on social relations in China. It provides an introduction to the concept of Guanxi, the notion that social connections are based on socially situated reciprocity. This is different from social interaction in Western society that is based on self-interest and equity. Guanxi represents the foundation of social networks in many Eastern countries. As such, the study of social networks in China requires scholars to examine Guanxi networks. The paper demonstrates how a Guanxi perspective might be added to the examination of various theories that comprise structural (network) theory, including social capital theory, social exchange theory, cognitive and contagion theories, and the role of homophily for the study of Chinese society and its social organizations.

Koreans who put a high value on confucian ethics traditionally have considered sex problems as taboo. Being faced with western liberal and hedonic culture that comes with waves of industrialization our younger generation who has grown in cultural backgrounds of confucianism has had mental confusion. Due to higher standards of living physical growth has quickened but mental growth has not reached there instead. Because of lureand trouble which come from this problem related with sex this is considered as a social problem. In this research through judgement which the most effective way that can solve adolescence sex problems is systematic sex education teaching method for desirable sex education is presented asfollowing First some supplement and desirable direction of sex education were proposed through the analysis of eight currently using home economics texbooks. A lesson plan was proposed using CAI program which was developed by authors with assistance of professional computer programmers. The CAI program includes following curriculum contents: 1concepts of sex This study ultimately aimed to let students develop desirable attitude and perspective on value regarding adolescence and sex, For this goal of research another lesson plan was proposed fostering classroom group discussion.

Recently there has arisen an increasing world-wide emphasis on teaching ethics within the engineering curriculum. Much of the teaching has relied on the use of an American model emphasizing autonomy and professional identification. This paper argues that this model is inadequate when engineering is seen in a global perspective, because different cultural values are dominant throughout the world, some of which stand in sharp contrast to traditional Western values based on the primacy of the individual. A new global engineering ethics thus needs to be constructed which takes into account a variety of different cultural values and local circumstances, but which is able to serve as a uniting ethical foundation for engineers throughout the world. The paper suggests that the development of a global code of engineering ethics would be a fruitful way to pursue such a strategy.

Japan is an advanced Asian country with a young, visual and stimulating culture that fascinates even western countries. The aim of this article was to provide an in-depth understanding of youth subculture as a medium of interpreting contemporary Japanese society and fashion, and understanding the values of Japanese youths today. The study of Japanese culture, youth culture, and Japanese youth subcultures of the 2000s and their clothing styles are based on documentary research and internet research, including a wide range of books and dissertations, and English, Korean and Japanese websites. It studies the unique youth subcultures of the country from the perspective of a Korean researcher who lives in a more fashion-conservative neighbouring country.

People have their own cultural backgrounds and experiences in terms of visual perceptional thinking so that they could misunderstand the cultural symbols, trademarks, Brand Identities, and trade characters, especially, animal trademarks. Sometimes Easterners and Westerners seem to not comprehend the different meanings of the cultural symbols. The signs of twelve Chinese zodiac animals are the typical symbol of the Asian mythology. What I wanted to focus on emphasizing the different views and perspective of an animal trademark is according to the Chinese Zodiac between Eastern and Western cultures. Generally, multiple symbolisms are difficult to comprehend, because they are created by individual ideas and incorporate several mythologies and histories. How do Westerners interpret the implied meaning of Eastern animals in general? How are they going to understand the Eastern animal logos or marks accurately? How can we solve the problem to make people understand their different meanings? There were some confusing pictorial images in the area of the design field when a designer creates an animal mark for globalization and localization. Creating of hybrid symbol is the best way to break the communication barriers with people all around the world.

A historical overview of the relationship between law and medicine, particularly psychiatry, was presented along with the religious, social and legal aspects of the societies in the Western hemisphere as they affected the concepts and philosophy of the legal system in each society at different point in history. The evolution of the modern concept of juvenile court system and changing patterns of implementing the juvenile law in the United States, particularly the mental health evaluation process to determine the youths' competence to stand trial, were presented in detail. The ultimate goals of protecting the civil rights of children, adolescents and youths are emphasized.
