  • Since its development in the early 1980's the force balance technique has become a standard method in the efficient determination of structural loads and responses. Its usefulness lies in the simplicity of the physical model, the relatively short records required from the wind tunnel testing and its versatility in the use of the data for different sets of dynamic properties. Its major advantage has been the ability to provide results in a timely manner, assisting the structural engineer to fine-tune their building at an early stage of the structural development. The analysis of the wind tunnel data has evolved from the simple un-coupled system to sophisticated methods that include the correction for non-linear mode shapes, the handling of complex geometry and the handling of simultaneous measurements on multiple force balances for a building group. This paper will review some of the components in the force balance data analysis both in historical perspective and in its current advancement. The basic formulation of the force balance methodology in both frequency and time domains will be presented. This includes all coupling effects and allows the determination of the resultant quantities such as resultant accelerations, as well as various load effects that generally were not considered in earlier force balance analyses. Using a building model test carried out in the wind tunnel as an example case study, the effects of various simplifications and omissions are discussed.

  • The origines of the Western roasting culture and East Asian boiling culture were studied and the importance of primitive pottery culture (8000-5000 BCE) in the Korea Strait coastal region was discussed. The primitive pottery culture probably initiated the Jjigae (stew) culture and the production of salt. It can be also postulated that fish fermentation, kimchi fermentation, and cereal alcohol fermentation originated during this period. Soybean culture emerged ca. 2,000 BCE in South Manchuria and the Korean Peninsula. This paper focuses on the role of Korean foodways in the food science and technology development for the sustainable and resilient food systems. We are facing a global food crisis caused by population growth, climate change, and high animal food consumption. Studies on the meat analog and cultured meat are the new trend in Food Science and Technology. The importance of the wisdom learned through the Northeast Asian traditional foods, for example, soybean curd (tofu) and meaty flavor production by fermentation for the research on the novel sustainable and resilient food systems are discussed.

  • It is generally accepted that the political philosophy of Merleau-Ponty is called western Marxism or existential phenomenological humanism. I would like to examine and orientate his political theory in detail in terms of embodiment. In what follows, I criticize its own conception of subjectivity as a philosophical basis of traditional politics from perspective of Merleau-Ponty's bodily phenomenology. In turn, alternatively I discuss Merleau-Ponty's basic idea of subjectivity. By drawing on his unique clarification of it, I approach and appreciate politics through the flesh. With the result of it, the embodiment of violence which is the permanent problem of politics is explained and disclosed distinctively. In conclusion, I might suggest what could be implicit in Merleau-Ponty's politics of flesh for Korean contemporary political issue i. I hope you relearn how to see political life in this paper.

  • The objective of this study was to enhance understanding and appreciation of Pre-Orientalism in costumes and textiles by revealing examples of Oriental influences in Europe from the 16th century to the mid-18th century through in-depth study. The research method used were the presentation and analysis of previous literature research and visual data. The result were as follows; Pre-Orientalism had been influenced by Morocco, Thailand, and Persia as well as Turkey, India, and China. In this study, Pre-Orientalism refers to oriental influence and oriental taste in Western Europe through cultural exchanges from the 16th century to the mid-18th century. The oriental costume was the most popular subspecies of fancy, luxury dress and was a way to show off wealth and intelligence. Textiles were used for decoration and luxury. The Embassy and the court in Versailles and Vienna led to a frenzy of oriental fashion. It appeared that European in the royal family and aristocracy of Europe had been accommodated without an accurate understanding of the Orient. Although in this study, the characteristics, factors, and impacts of Pre-Orientalism have not been clarified, further study can be done. Recognizing a broad perspective on oriental influence in Europe before Orientalism, we can have a balanced view of future Orientalism and global fashion.

  • Introduction The purpose of this study was to review thirty years of studies on psychological characteristics of Sasang types to delineate generalizable psychological theories pertaining Sasang typology. Methods Research articles providing psychometric characteristics of each Sasang types were extracted from five database written in Korean and English. Demographic features of the participants, clinical methods for the Sasang type classification, and psychological characteristics of each Sasang types were reviewed and summarized. Results A total of 59 peer-reviewed research articles were found to be published from 1991 to 2018, and the So-Yang and So-Eum Sasang type showed distinctive and contrasting psychological features. The overlap between Eastern and Western psychology in Behavioral Activation and Inhibition System was highlighted as for personality studies, but the anxiety as a pathological factor was not found distinguishable between Sasang types. Discussion The present systematic review provided insight on psychological perspectives of Sasang typology, and would be useful for establishing unique construct of Korean Psychology.

  • The Netherlands is a human-made country and an extremely well-designed European country as well. The general Dutch spatial planning for the city and environment takes place at a regional level. The local community determines the primary development conditions, and the prospect is included in a legally binding land-use plan. Especially, Rotterdam is a representative port city as the center of world trade and the gateway to western Europe. According to the history of war, the city reconstruction and the movement of the port area have led to a general change in Rotterdam and the regional redevelopment project on the southern port area of Mass river for the expansion of city functions and the balanced development. The research purpose is to understand the spatial development of the Netherlands city-region based on the analysis regarding the Kop van Zuid project, which is a representative implemented case in Rotterdam. The theoretical framework is the five dimensions and twelve indicators of territorial governance from the TANGO research project by the EU. The target case is assessed by planning and social aspect, respectively, and the results are discussed based on the theoretical framework. This research has the possibility to be utilized as advanced research by the European perspective for spatial development in other city-regions with the port area, such as Incheon and Busan in Korea.

XiJinping's new socialist thought with Chinese characteristics established in the report of 19th CPC National Congress will be written in the preface of the March 2018 National People's Congress's constitutional amendment. The fifth revision of 1982 Constitution will touch on many issues such as the leadership of the CPC into the constitution, the abolition of the tenure of the president, the constitutional oath system, and the reform of the national supervisory system. In addition, the constitutionality review system, the establishment of the National Security Council, the constitutional status of socialist public property and private property and the adjustment of major economic system has become a hot topic in the theory field. • The purpose of this paper is to review eight researchers on the trust and mistrust of Korean society, and to suggest the tasks of psychological researches in terms of cultural psychological perspective. In traditional Korean culture, feeling of trust is emerged from the family relationship formed by the blood ties based on father-son relation. In this respect, the meaning of trust might be different from that of western culture, which is emerged from the market relationship formed by the contract based on husband-wife relation. Now, the Korean family seems to be disorganized rapidly, so in this sense, it is suggested that recent Korean society might be the trust-absent society rather than the mistrust society. Also, it is suggested that further psychological researches must be performed in the serious consideration of the indigeneous characteristics of Korean culture.
